NFL week 15 open thread

Here’s the schedule. The 49ers beat the Bengals Saturday, for whatever that’s worth. I’ll be watching for the Cowboys-Eagles game (the Eagles always worry me) and half expect the Dolphins to finally pick up a win against the Ravens, who have pretty much collapsed. The Patriots take on the 3-10 Jets and ought to win that one. The Pack and Colts both ought to win too. Jacksonville-Pittsburgh might be an interesting one to watch. Dark horse Minnesota ought to pick up another win tomorrow night against the Bears.

Big Ben may not start for the Steelers. A win will sew up a playoff spot for Pittsburgh.

Sigh………..with the San Diego Charges starting the season off so poorly I have written this year off, just cant seem to get excited about football…

But on the other hand I have finally come up with a great new marketing strategy for my CD. But it as a Christmas present for those special people on your holiday gift list that you really don’t like. It is a sure fire way to confuse and annoy the he11 out of them, a genuine win – win situation for everyone involved…Dont wait get yours today…Quantities are limited…Go that extra mile and let your inner Grinch shine throughout this holiday season…

Oh and in case I am being too subtle here…Cody doriangrey needs a new pony Harley… :)

doriangrey on December 16, 2007 at 12:47 PM

high winds and snow right now in the ‘burgh… aught to be an interesting game.
Go Pack!!
Go Steelers!!

Jacksonville-Pittsburgh might be an interesting one to watch

Or maybe not – my local CBS affiliate has decided to show the Ravens/Dolphins game instead. Great call guys, I’m sure all 12 local Ravens fans are going to be pleased.

Heh, yep it’s been very tough being a 49er fan since the 49ers won their last Superbowl in what was it, 1994?

It’s been a difficult adjustment for me over the last 13 years, going from the 49ers being a dominant team for almost two decades to being what they are now, bottom dwellers!

Oh for the days of Montana, Rice, Lott, and a real owner like Eddie D! Someone that will spend the money needed to win, unlike his sister and her nepotistic and tight fisted mis-management style!

I seriously thought by now Eddie would have managed to get the team back from his sister and bring it back to its former glory, but until that happens I guess I’ll just have to keep reliving the 49er glory days of the 80′s and 90′s through highlight reels!

Still a 49er faithful and always will be!

Liberty or Death on December 16, 2007 at 1:06 PM

Patriots will put the Jets back in thier place because of the first game. I predict at least a 24 pt victory……..14-0

bones47 on December 16, 2007 at 1:11 PM

Seahawks are in Carolina going for their 6th in a row and continuing their tune-up for the playoffs. Still grasping to the thin straw that the Pack will lose two more games while the Hawks win out to give Seattle a first round bye and home field for the semis. How tight are the collars in Green Bay?

I have to spend the day with the little lady looking at neighborhoods where we might move to. Thank goodness for the DVR. The challenge now is to stay away from radios and other info sources so I can enjoy the game this evening.

Mallard T. Drake on December 16, 2007 at 1:12 PM

Hope ManGenie’s time with the Pat’s gives the Jets an advantage. Holee cow… did y’all see them clearing the Foxboro(sp) snow-field this mornin?

A real mess in Cleveland, which is probably one of the bigger games today.

I have to kill time until the Giants come on tonight.

Pfft. I’m a Saints fan. Not so much a choice as much as a genetic disposition from growing up in La. Disappointed your favorite team hasn’t made the playoffs in 10 years? Cry-baby. Try going 25 years without a winning season. Yeah, they had a shot last year at a decent run, but it took nearly wiping out the city to give them spark to do it. (OK, so Reggie, Colston, McAllister, Brees and Horn helped too but still.)

Bet none of you have ever gone to a game where 75% of the fans wore paper bags over their heads–and yet still sold out the Dome.

They might beat the Cardinals today, but since it’s their last hope for making a wild-card spot I’m betting they hold a 14 point lead until 3 minutes left in the game and then they will choke and lose.

We’re used to it.

We’re New Orleans Saints fans.

Forest, you can usually find a stream of Steelers games(and any others, commercials and all) right here:

http://www2.myp2p.eu:81/index.php?part=home

Picture quality is like watching tv with an antenna, but definitely watch-able and far better than being deprived, altogether.

There’s some software but it’s all available on the site. If you want the games below you’ll need the SOPcast player.

Coming back to earth so far this week.

Faith1 on December 16, 2007 at 3:06 PM

If Ron Wolf and Mike Holmgren hadn’t come along, I’d be right there with you.

If it’s any hope, I took the Saints and the points, and last week, I finally busted .500 against the spread (a minor miracle considering Weeks 2-5, where I went a soul-crushing 21-35-4).

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 3:36 PM

Bucs. 0-26.

lorien1973 on December 16, 2007 at 3:31 PM

Yeah, there’s that too.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 3:39 PM

The big news, Miami may just get off the schneid. Tied up with six and a half to go.

lowandslow on December 16, 2007 at 3:41 PM

lowandslow on December 16, 2007 at 3:41 PM

I hope not. I need to have another team with sit the bucs in the annals of futility.

lorien1973 on December 16, 2007 at 3:44 PM

Miami takes the lead, under two to go.

lowandslow on December 16, 2007 at 3:56 PM

Final – New Orleans 31, Atlanta 24

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:00 PM

2nd and goal for Baltimore at the Miami 9, 25 seconds left.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:01 PM

Tie game in Miami again as Baltimore gave up a chance to go for the kill (4th and goal at the 1) for the sure 3. 12 seconds left in regulation.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:03 PM

Miami’s fate hinges on a coin toss.

lowandslow on December 16, 2007 at 4:05 PM

Overtime in Miami. The good news is I can now get greedy and take the win agains the spread, at least if Baltimore scores a touchdown.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:07 PM

The Green Bay Packers have clinched a first-round bye with a 33-14 whooping of St. Louis and a 13-10 upset of the Seahawks by the Carolina Panthers.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:08 PM

And the OldBrowns win the toss and elect to receive.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:09 PM

ALRIGHT Dolphins! Go Overtime!

christophercube on December 16, 2007 at 4:12 PM

Bad news for ‘Fin fans; Baltimore is in field goal range.

DON’T KICK THE FIELD GOAL! I need the 6 (yeah, I’m greedy; I already have 9 wins against the spread).

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:14 PM

It should be a 43-yard attempt by Stover for the win after the icing timeout from Miami.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:16 PM

WIDE LEFT!

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:16 PM

And then there were none – Miami 22, Baltimore 16

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:19 PM

Fish win!

Ha. I loathe Brian Billick. No humiliation is good enough.

JammieWearingFool on December 16, 2007 at 4:25 PM

The Ravens go from blowing a close one against the undefeated Pats to blowing a close one against winless Miami. I’m not sure what this means…except that the Ravens suck.

packsoldier on December 16, 2007 at 4:29 PM

I loathe Brian Billick. No humiliation is good enough.

JammieWearingFool on December 16, 2007 at 4:25 PM

So what’s the latest odds on him coaching the OldBrowns in 2008?

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:32 PM

What a BS call… that Cowboy haddit, long term control, knees down, the ground seemed to cause the ball to pop-out, after he was down.

christophercube on December 16, 2007 at 4:36 PM

Er, while the ground cannot cause a fumble, in the NFL and only the NFL, it can cause an incompletion.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:39 PM

Billick claimed he was coming back earlier this week. He should be fired for this alone.

JammieWearingFool on December 16, 2007 at 4:51 PM

Hopefully he doesn’t have the Matt Millen defense. I still can’t explain how he’s been hanging on in Detroit as long as he has (though, like 3 wood, I’m grateful).

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 4:58 PM

That Thursday-after-Thanksgiving debacle is really starting to haunt me. Just before the half:

Eagles 7
Cowboys 3

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 5:44 PM

Raiders score

14 -13

Pretty much says it all.
From one Saints fan masochist to another.

I taped today’s game. Haven’t seen it yet.
I’ve pretty much written off ths season, but I’ll watch tonight anyway.

Miracles have been known to happen.

soundingboard on December 16, 2007 at 6:36 PM

Pats continue the dynasty.

BKennedy on December 16, 2007 at 6:37 PM

The Colts answer and convert the 2-point conversion (21-14 Colts), and Romo’s out for the ‘Boys.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 6:37 PM

Or maybe he’s not out. Guess that Wisconsin work ethic wore off on Romo.

Hopefully the picks continue.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 6:59 PM

I hope the Packer DC is watching this.

Sammy316 on December 16, 2007 at 7:10 PM

That was a beautiful slip by TO to allow the pick to happen.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 7:14 PM

Very unselfish of Westbrook. He could’ve had the TD, but he downed himself at the 1 because Dallas is out of timeouts.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 7:19 PM

Nice play Westbrook.

Spirit of 1776 on December 16, 2007 at 7:19 PM

(gosh darn) Hope Dallas can win 14 regular season games this year, break the 13-3 best season record.

christophercube on December 16, 2007 at 7:22 PM

I don’t think so; I want that rematch in the frozen tundra.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 7:24 PM

I thought since Dallas won that Packer game that meant their playoff meet would be in Texas Stadium.

christophercube on December 16, 2007 at 7:26 PM

My Boys got a good ol’fashioned butt-whooping.

Next up. Jerry Jones comes on TV saying it was all part of some secret plan.

Limerick on December 16, 2007 at 7:29 PM

It would be if they finish tied. If the Packers finish 14-2 and the Cowboys finish 13-3, we get Ice Bowl II.

How about them Lions; 6-2 to no chance to have a winning record. I LOVE it.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 7:30 PM

Packers 13-3 and Cowboys 12-4 would work too :-)

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 7:31 PM

Man.. I thought the Jets had that one. Ugh! How awesome would it have been for us to end the Pats perfect streak. UgH!

Its Tommy on December 16, 2007 at 7:32 PM

I’d rather see a Lambeau game. I love the Green Bay fans.
Seems the Pack hazza more difficult two games ahead… I guess maybe. Although the Boys just lost some momentum on that performence.

christophercube on December 16, 2007 at 7:40 PM

Aww, the Cowboys lost.

I’m crushed.
/

JammieWearingFool on December 16, 2007 at 7:42 PM

Difficult? The Bears have regressed badly since last year, and the Lions are, well, the Lions.

Of course, I’d almost want to put as many games as I can between my team and the Vikings; they’re surging with that twin-headed rushing monster.

steveegg on December 16, 2007 at 7:58 PM

ooof… didn’t realize the Boys injuries, their road games and they mentioned on the OT Roy Williams may face suspension(excessive horsecollars).

christophercube on December 16, 2007 at 8:22 PM

Favre is awesome, and Westbrook just made my imaginary hall of fame. That had to be one of the smartest plays I’ve ever seen.

BadgerHawk on December 16, 2007 at 8:25 PM

Hey, all you people who are lauding Westbrook: Did you ever stop to think that some of us out here needed one more win to clinch our fantasy league title, and that jackass cost us a win? Dude’s priorities are seriously out of whack.

CraigC on December 17, 2007 at 12:01 AM

The Seahawks stunk up the joint. Seattle has to have one of the worst O-lines in the league. 44 yards rushing for the Hawks. It’s not all Shaun Alexander. They are trying to spin this as post clinching let-down. If it was, then they should have two-a-days next week to get their heads back on.

Hawks lose, GB wins; there goes the Seahawks first round bye. Next up, the Ravens at home. Pity the Ravens. It will be a rededicated bunch of Seahawks next week.

Mallard T. Drake on December 17, 2007 at 12:07 AM

How bout them, Cowboys, eh?

Tony737 on December 17, 2007 at 7:29 AM

And during the playoffs, Iggles players can point at their TV’s and tell all their friends “We beat those guys”.

I’m actually glad they got beat. They always seem to play one game like this every year. Good to see it out of the way now instead of their first playoff game.

Kowboy on December 17, 2007 at 9:49 AM

CraigC on December 17, 2007 at 12:01 AM

I didn’t consider that (mainly because I neither have him nor faced him). However, that worked out for a friend’s wife, who took her league thanks solely because of that.

Upon further review, it still is a very good play.
