Video: NBC on Huckabee’s ethics; Update: 21 Huck gift-givers received appointments, says Politico

Same conclusion as the Guardian reached in its story today about his fondness for gifts. Nothing illegal, just malodorous. Besides, he’s a man of the cloth:

A former top Huckabee staffer said the governor saw nothing wrong with Osborne’s gifts. “It was because of his background as a preacher,” said the staffer, who asked to remain anonymous. “They typically get gifts. In his own mind he was righteous, so the appearance didn’t matter.” Huckabee is an ordained Southern Baptist minister.

Who cares about any of this anymore? 80% of my workload lately is divided between two types of posts: “Shocking new revelation about Huckabee” and “Huckabee increases lead in polls.” The worse the first type gets, the better the second type gets. God, gays, and abortion — what more, as issues, does a party need?

After the NBC clip comes another parody from the guy responsible for that goof on Giuliani a few weeks ago. Pretty clearly he leans left, but entertainment is entertainment.

Update: “Huckabee doesn’t just embrace big government in the form of big taxes. He truly appears to believe that if something is a good idea it should be a federal government program.” To which I say: God, gays, and abortion.

Update: Politico goes fishing for a blockbuster and comes back with … not much. 21 appointees gave Huck gifts, but most were appointed to unpaid positions. Worth a read, though, to see how willing he was to accept kindnesses great or small (e.g., car repairs) and what that habit may say about tendencies towards cronyism.

Wait, Huckabee is religious?

WHO KNEW?

No word on the ethics of NBC?

Egfrow on December 14, 2007 at 3:05 PM

How about saying opposition to Bush’s 2006 amnesty legislation was driven by “racism”?

amerpundit on December 14, 2007 at 3:05 PM

According to a new Detroit News/WXYZ-TV statewide survey, Giuliani is favored by 28 percent of Republicans — slightly better than the 25 percent support for Romney, a Michigan native whose father was the state’s governor in the 1960s. Both former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson and Arizona Sen. John McCain continue to lag behind. Thompson is still third, now at 13 percent, followed by McCain, at 12 percent.

sorry, that was from November.

Looking for a new poll from them to come out today.

bnelson44 on December 14, 2007 at 3:09 PM

Let Ace take over all HA huckabee posting. Kills two birds with one stone: you have less to do and Ace gets to share his awesome philosophy on huck.

That said I hate his f***ing guts. He’s a nasty little b*stard who’s claiming Jesues endorses him and that Romney is in league with Satan. He’s almost certainly behind all those push-polls and he pretends to be this sweet dufus. He’s as nasty as hillary is and he’s got a goddamned bodycount to show for his Elmer Gantry act.

TheEJS on December 14, 2007 at 3:09 PM

psssttt…OT, but did you see this?

Sorry if it was caught earlier. Haven’t had much puter time today and don’t have time to send as a tip.

Don’t be fooled. Mike Huckabee is Hillary Clintons ticket to the Whitehouse. Hope, Arkansas indeed.

sonnyspats1 on December 14, 2007 at 3:22 PM

I’d rather crap jagged glass than vote for another Man From Hope, even if he IS the only (R) pimping my beloved FairTax.

God, gays, and abortion — what more, as issues, does a party need?

Well, there’s that “war” thingy, but hey, Huckabee is a nice, honest guy who’s in God’s good graces, and anyway, wasn’t the reason we were attacked on 9/11 because of abortion and gay marriage? Huck would put an end to that — problem solved.

I am in a quandry. I have raised cain about social conservatives balking at supporting a Guiliani if nominated. I hope the shoe won’t be on the other foot and me having to support a Huckabee for the good of the party. But, if it is Huckabee, there will be no more party.

Shocking new revelation about Huckabee” and “Huckabee increases lead in polls.” The worse the first type gets, the better the second type gets.

He does seem to be made of Teflon, doesn’t he?

jman on December 14, 2007 at 3:44 PM

In his own mind he was righteous, so the appearance didn’t matter.

Threw up in my trash can.

On its annual governor’s report card, Cato gave Huckabee an “F” for fiscal policy during his final term, and an overall two-term grade of “D.” Only four governors had worse scores, and 15 Democratic governors got higher grades, including well-known liberals

Swell.

He truly appears to believe that if something is a good idea it should be a federal government program.

And since he’s so F-ing righteous, it’s obvious that all his ideas are good ones.

Sounds like something OBL would say.

Don’t be fooled. Mike Huckabee is Hillary Clintons Fred Thompson’s ticket to the Whitehouse.

People will come to their senses eventually.

JiangxiDad on December 14, 2007 at 4:27 PM

Receiving gifts.

Yep - there you have it. The MSM trying to look like they are attacking him while choosing the lamest thing to attack him on.

Nevermind letting murdering rapists go free, wanting to lift the Cuba embargo, and wanting to surrender to Iran.

He receives too many gifts.

Right.

Liberals are laughing their asses off at us right now. I seriously want to know who the retards are who are running the churches who are pushing this guys just because he says he’s a “Pastor.”

Gift cards from Wendy’s. . . That does it, He’s toast.

Texyank on December 14, 2007 at 5:05 PM

To which I say: God, gays, and abortion.

I wish I knew someone supporting Huckabee. I’d just want to get a straight answer whether gays and abortion are a more important issues than an imperialistic religion that has killed and enslaved Christians by the millions, conquered and converted by sword the ancient Christian lands, and is on the path to war with Christiandom and Israel. However, I doubt I’d get a sensible response.

Powerline is reporting that Huckabee stated that he has a degree (doctorate) in theology but apparently only spent one year in a seminary and never graduated.

In a post-debate interview with CBN News last month, Mike Huckabee claimed that he is uniquely qualified to lead the war on terror because he has a theology degree. Huckabee said:

I’m as strong on terror as anybody. In fact I think I’m stronger than most people because I truly understand the nature of the war that we are in with Islamofascism. These are people that want to kill us. It’s a theocratic war. And I don’t know if anybody fully understands that. I’m the only guy on that stage with a theology degree. I think I understand it really well.

JiangxiDad on December 14, 2007 at 5:10 PM

AP, there’s no such thing as an unpaid appointment. There is always something in for someone somewhere sometime.

Why doesn’t the Republican party just nominate Jesus Freaking Christ in abstentia? We could just put a crown of thorns on the debate podium for the debates. Forget about article 6 and the 1st amendment. Just give us JEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

revolution on December 14, 2007 at 10:29 PM

Doin’ it for the hamburgers!

Oh man, do you really want four years of this kind of t.v. story?

“It was because of his background as a preacher,” said the staffer, who asked to remain anonymous. “They typically get gifts. In his own mind he was righteous, so the appearance didn’t matter.” Huckabee is an ordained Southern Baptist minister.

Can you imagine if Romney tried to float that?

Powerline is reporting that Huckabee stated that he has a degree (doctorate) in theology but apparently only spent one year in a seminary and never graduated.

JiangxiDad on December 14, 2007 at 5:10 PM

Man, that bro is slick! Can you follow up on this, Allah?

Tzetzes on December 14, 2007 at 11:30 PM

Boy I sure wish that the Politico, The Baltimore Examiner or The Sun (who am i kidding) would report on the gift exchange going on in Annapolis MD right now bewtween Boy Governor Martin O’Malley and his donors!

Seems the favors will be paid at our expense.
