The money from this is going directly to the Iraqi people. The Iraqi government’s budget income is largely from the sale of oil, most of it going to world markets via Turkey and shipping.

the “blood for oil” mantra has been proven to be a lie.

Do we trust the White House to be smart enough to mention this unprompted or are blogs going to have to nudge Dizzy Dana along?

They aren’t going to tout it, for the reason raised by BKennedy and RightWinged. And also because doing so, could promt more attacks on the pipelines, which AQI would figure to be easier thantrying to take on the US or the loccals directly. Politically, it’s probably the right tactic.

Lots of heavy machinery, lots of people, some accidents. The percentage is meaningless–in peactime it would be 100%. At Guadalcanal or Iwo Jima it probably would’ve been less than 1%. Given the inherent dangers of the things being done on a daily basis, the solid number of 2 accidents actually strikes me as small. They’re obviously quite safety conscious over there.

Given the size and strength of Iranian proxies in Iraq, those pipelines won’t last five minutes if Iran gives the word.

I can only hope we can say something similar about Iran’s refineries, or should that be refinery…
