Heart-ache: Barbara receives a religious Christmas card from the White House

posted at 6:40 pm on December 13, 2007 by Allahpundit

Yeah, can you believe it? Our Christian president sent out a card with a Biblical inscription. “Now, does this also go to agnostics and atheists and Muslims?” frets Barbara. If so, how will they react?

I’m thinking: By saying, “Oh, that’s nice,” and moving on with their day.

They’re turning me into a self-hating atheist, dude.

And no, before any smart-ass commenter chimes in, self-hatred isn’t a precondition.

Take Babara off the list if she doesn’t want one. We got them annually from the Reagan administration because my cousin worked in the government for a while (her dad is the one who just won mayor here in a small town).

Anyway, we thought it was an honor to get one from the White House. If she’s ‘offended’, just take her off the list and problem solved. We have all our White House Christmas Cards framed and proudly displayed at the home where I grew up. I’d love to be back on the list to get one.

Remove Barbara from the list. Oh yeah, I guess she’s offended by Christianity. Does anyone really care about Barbara Walters anymore?

Although Article II of the Constitution does not specifically grant the President power to send out whatever Christmas greeting he deems appropriate, I don’t think there is any reason to interpret the Constitution to deny him this power…

Defector01 on December 13, 2007 at 7:04 PM

Somebody should tell her that Christmas is a religious holiday. I really don’t know why you watch that poor excuse for a show AP. The women aren’t hot, they don’t teach anything factual, and nobody ever agrees with the lies they say.

Take Barbara off the list for a religious holiday card. I’d understand if she were shocked that the verse is from the Old Testament anyway. I would think that a Christmas card would at least have a New Testament verse. . . like the one I just got from my mom.

I wonder if she is appalled that the Kabaa in Saudi Arabia has a covering over it with Koranic verses. Wouldn’t that offend everyone who isn’t Muslim? Does she care?

I’m not a philologist but I know enough about the English language to say that it would be near impossible to hold an ordinary conversation if one were to eschew words derived from Christian meaning. Same goes for German, French, Irish and Polish. The latter two languages are not derived from Latin so its not even a classical thing.

Oh so now buildings can send Christmas cards? The card is not from ‘The Whitehouse’ it’s from George and Laura Bush. I think the fact that the witch even got a card shows the love and tolerance of the Christian faith, not an intolerance to all other faiths as BW is implying. Believe me it’s not just BDS going on here this is symbolic of the attempt at ethnic cleansing going on in this country starting with abortion.

I used to have a Jewish roommate back when i was in college and we celebrated and decorated for both Hanukkah and Christmas. we lit the menorah, she cooked some awesome traditional dishes and we exchanged presents and had a small tree and candles. It was such a non-issue I just don’t understand what has happened these past few years. If someone wished me a Happy Hanukkah straight with quotes out of the Torah or even a happy Ramadan or a happy Chinese new year I would be pleased at the sentiment and say THANK YOU. But nowadays its like Liberals think I should be ashamed to be a Christian and offend people with my well wishes. For some reason ‘Peace on earth and good will toward men’ has become offensive.

Keli on December 13, 2007 at 7:16 PM

Oh, noes! A religious Christmas card? And they don’t even call it a “Holiday” card either…blasphemy.

Well, the President is a Christian…he sends out the appropriate card. I have friends of different faiths, or no faith at all, and I send out Christmas cards with religious messages in them. No one has ever complained…

But then, Barbara Walters isn’t on my card list.

JetBoy on December 13, 2007 at 7:36 PM

I was in a post office 2 days ago, mailing out the presents to the outliers, and there was a poster of the Christmas stamp designs available, including one for a happy EID with islamic scroll writing on it! WTF is that!!!

AP, you should look into it.

Our Christian president sent out a card with a Biblical “CHRISTMAS” inscription. “

They really are that stupid on the view, huh.

I’m sending Barbwa:
Luke 2:10
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ[a] the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Seems it’s been around since September 1 2001 (10 days before 9-11). So says Azeezaly S. Jaffer, Vice President, Public Affairs and Communications for the Postal Service.

“The Eid stamp helps us highlight the business, educational and social contributions of the estimated six to seven million Muslims in this country whose cultural heritage has become an integral part of the fabric of this nation.”

JiangxiDad on December 13, 2007 at 7:48 PM

Why the 4ell is G-Dub even sending her a card in the FIRST place? She’s a media hack anyhow.

Given my past donations to GWB and the fact that I proudly sport my oval W ‘04 sticker in this purple state of California to this day, I’m CERTAIN to be receiving my “don’t really give a hoot what religious quote is inside, inserted, outside or implied” Christmas card from the White House any day now.

Heaven knows I’ve had his back more often that Bobwa over the past 7 years!

Baba Wawa should remove her cranium from her rectal cavity prior to opening her pie-hole.

MCPO Airdale on December 13, 2007 at 7:50 PM

What the hell is wrong with these people?

I bet they wouldn’t be all pissy about a religious Eid card, Divali card or Chanukah card.

But for prejudiced menopausal libtards, I guess this was too good an opportunity to miss – the chance to slam the president and insult Christians. I bet they’re soooo proud.

I’m an atheist, by the way. I don’t give cards or celebrate presents. But at least I have enough human decency to be grateful if someone sends me a card…yes – even a mawkish religious one with sheep, kings, a star, a manger and a little baby Jesus.

Christmas cards should be religious.

Christmas (believe it or not, Barbara) is a religious festival.

The clue is in the name, you insufferable dullard.

A mass for Christ.

If you don’t like it, auction it on eBay like Rush did with his love letter from the Dumbocrats. You could raise some money for Offended Atheists and Muslims. It’s suuuuch a tough month for them, after all.

uptight on December 13, 2007 at 7:53 PM

O’Reilly did say Walters is Jewish.

I never knew that. I’ve always wondered how a nice Protestant lady like she could be such a dangerous freaking liberal maniac. This explains a lot. She’s simply like many liberal Jews in America– nuts.

Coincidentally, I happened to see her yesterday at the dermatologists office wearing a baseball cap pulled down low and looking old and wrinkly (my 80 year old mother-in-law was having one of those skin cancers scraped off). All of these swells were walking in looking like cadavers, and came out spit shined and looking 20 years younger. She looks better on TV.

JiangxiDad on December 13, 2007 at 7:54 PM

Actually, the card is religious, but not necessarily Christian.

The Bible passage is from the Old Testament, and no mention of Christmas is made in the card. It refers to this “blessed season”.

juliesa on December 13, 2007 at 7:57 PM

So now, I’ll send Ms. Walters ‘holiday greetings’ from the book of Isaiah-
Isaiah 7: 13 Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you [c] a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and [d] will call him Immanuel. (NIV)
.
Where the coming of the lord was yet again foretold…just one of a few hundred prophecies to come true.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

It’s worse than that… These stupid, stupid women are complaining about a CHRISTmas card being religious and quoting CHRISTian scripture. WTF!? People are just unbelievably stupid sometimes. The entire segment they talk about it being a “Christmas card”, but complain about it being religious. By it’s very nature it’s religious you effing morons. Ugh, I can’t believe this kind of stuff is allowed to go on. Such idiocy should be outlawed. Someone has to tell O’Reilly about this. He’s friendly with Walters, but I’d like to hear if he can defend her being offended by getting a CHRISTIAN card on a CHRISTIAN holiday.

Oh, and that idiot Joyless ends with saying that Bush is just doing this because he’s almost out of office and just doesn’t care anymore… He’s religious and gonna let us know. Again, effing morons. Is this a secret that Bush is a Christian? Are you kidding me?

Hm.. maybe Christianity did exist before Christ.

A bit of greek logic:

EXAMPLE:

All Greeks are Humans.
Aristotle is a Greek.
Therefore Aristotle is a Human.

NOW:

-George Bush is represents the White House atm.

-George Bush is a Christian.

-The White House sent a Christmas Card to Bararba Strei- Walters.

-Nehamia was a book in the OT and therefore predated Christ whom some argue may have started Christianity.

-People on the View have argued very well that fire can’t melt steel and Christianity was around in the Early Egyptian Era.

-Almost all of what George Bush says is incorrect according to the View.

-Everything that the View thinks is incorrect – and in the case of the Christmas Card quoting an OT prophet is actually true.

-So according to Aristotle AND THE VIEW Christmas did in fact exist before Christ.

Oh, my! The card quotes Nehemiah! We don’t believe in Nehemiah! Wait…you mean, we do? Oy, vay!

Here’s the biblical quotation from the card I got last year from the Bushes, who incidentally seem to have scrubbed me from their list:

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Psalm 119:105

We Jews don’t believe in the Psalms, do we? What? We do?

Attila (Pillage Idiot) on December 13, 2007 at 8:53 PM

The card has this shockingly offensive message:

You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life everlasting, and the multitudes of heaven worship you. NEHEMIAH 9:6 (NIV)

May the joy of all creation fill your heart his blessed season. 2007.

I wonder why Ms. Walters didn’t complain before since the Bush cards always have a religious quote. Maybe she didn’t realize it in the past since they were more nuanced and didn’t use the divisive L word.

Entelechy on December 13, 2007 at 10:08 PM

Isn’t Nehemiah a Jewish prophet?

Isn’t Barbara Walters Jewish?

What’s her poblem?

Barbara, you received a Christmas Card from the President of the United States and the White House.

I never received a Christmas Card from the White House, and I think it would be nice to receive one, even one which quotes Nehemiah about the Lord as Creator of all.

I expected brain dead comments and banter from the women of “The View” regading a subject like this, and they did not disappoint!

Barbara, what if the card had one of the wonderful songs from “Songs of Kabir” by Saint Kabir of Benares? Would you have something to say about that also?

No good deed goes unpunished!

Another reason why I do not tune in to “The View.”

SouthernGent on December 13, 2007 at 10:40 PM

Well, you can’t please everybody. Here’s a WaPo story from 2005 where “Christian conservatives” griped that the White House cards weren’t religious enough. Joseph Farah of WND was so disgusted the tossed his in the trash, and the we have this reaction -

At the Catholic League, Donohue had just announced a boycott of the Lands’ End catalogue when he received his White House holiday card. True, he said, the Bushes included a verse from Psalm 28, but Psalms are in the Old Testament and do not mention Jesus’ birth.

Heck, the Left were furious when Dick Cheney quoted Benjamin Franklin – “And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid ?”

A note on YouTube videos: it seems that the widgets “time out” after a little while. After timing out, the widget will report “video no longer available”. However, if you refresh the page, the the video will play.

So always try a refresh first, before reporting an actual problem.

P.S. I don’t think this used to be the case, but I’ve noticed it over the last couple of months or so.

“I didn’t get no Christmas card.”

Says it all about the level of discourse on that show.
