Bombshell: Sharpton claims feds’ investigation into campaign misconduct is motivated by prejudice

Not racial prejudice per se but a near proxy: Opposition to civil rights.

Who could have seen this coming, besides me? And you, and everyone else?

The Rev. Al Sharpton on Thursday angrily denounced reports of an investigation into his 2004 presidential bid and suggested that federal authorities were retaliating against him for his civil rights advocacy…

Newspapers reported Thursday that federal authorities subpoenaed financial records and employees in an apparent probe of his presidential bid, nonprofit civil rights group and for-profit businesses.

Sharpton said he thought the timing of the investigation was suspicious, coming just weeks after he led a march on the Justice Department to demand federal intervention in the Jena Six case in Louisiana and better enforcement of hate crimes.

I blame Michelle Malkin. And also, possibly, his own alleged misstatement of fundraising to obtain federal matching funds.

Of course it is. (sarcasm) Once you learn that victimhood brings so many benefits in today’s society, you’ll want to be seen as a victim forever.

davenp35 on December 13, 2007 at 2:55 PM

Sorry Al, it’s not going to sell . . . but nice try.

rplat on December 13, 2007 at 2:55 PM

“Shocked I say…That’s what I am…shocked.” Al Sharpton using his race to explain alledged misuse of funds? “I’m shocked.”

sdd on December 13, 2007 at 2:56 PM

Just like the Tawana Brawley investigation? Give it up, Reverend.

NightmareOnKStreet on December 13, 2007 at 2:57 PM

LOL. It’s about time this charlatan is exposed. Now if Jesse Jackson would answer the knock at his door….

This just in, the sky is blue.

This S.O.B. race baiting thug gets exactly what he deserves. I hope he is found guilty and spends several years behind bars with his own people.

Caught…..it’s about damn time. This man has done more damage to his race than just about any “leader” in the black community.

Of course he is going to blame whitey for all his misdeeds.

Winebabe on December 13, 2007 at 3:00 PM

Well we tried AIDS and crack to destroy the black community and that didn’t work. Might as well bring out the big guns if we’re even gonna “get” Reverend Al and the civil rights movement.

STFU, Al….

liquidflorian on December 13, 2007 at 3:02 PM

The feds were on to him back in 2004 - before the election too.

lawhawk on December 13, 2007 at 3:04 PM

Wha wha wha wha what??!!!

We could say something about pots and kettles, but it’s probably best for all if we don’t.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on December 13, 2007 at 3:04 PM

For example, here.

lawhawk on December 13, 2007 at 3:05 PM

What a shock, Al Sharpton played the race card.

I’m actually happy that he did, because the more he does (when his misconduct is clear), the less power that it has.

Vyce on December 13, 2007 at 3:06 PM

I question the timing of Sharpton’s response to this investigation. It seems fishy that he would release this statement right after the investigation starts. He must be retaliating against the feds for their involvement in upholding the law.

Metro on December 13, 2007 at 3:07 PM

Who could have seen this coming, besides me? And you, and everyone else?

It was never a question of “if”, just a question of how fast he could work it up. I almost suggested a contest to see who could guess the time, but I figured it would be over before anything could be set up.

taznar on December 13, 2007 at 3:08 PM

Say it ain’t so, Al!

Frozen Tex on December 13, 2007 at 3:09 PM

To quote Captain Kirk from Star Trek 2:

“I’ll say this for him, he’s consistent.”

They need to make an Al Sharpton speech drinking game.

Everytime the words “white” and “prejudice” are used.

Double shot if they are together.

Hawkins1701 on December 13, 2007 at 3:15 PM

An attack on Rev. Al is an attack on Jesus Himself.

Above the law and a minister. A minister of what? Race bating.

Kini on December 13, 2007 at 3:27 PM

This guy isn’t behind bars already because he’s Black.

If they finally bring this criminal to justice, and convict him, it will be a true signal of equality, finally.

Hening on December 13, 2007 at 3:37 PM

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sharpton accused God of being racist on Judgement Day.

infidel4life on December 13, 2007 at 3:44 PM

Ya need some new material, Al. That act’s getting stale.

Sharpton interview coming up soon live.

Sharpton claims feds’ investigation into campaign misconduct is motivated by prejudice

Didn’t William Jefferson Democrat Lousiana make a similar claim? Do these guys really think race or playing victim cards exempts them from investigations and prosecutions? This is what I mean by crying wolf so much that real cases of racism don’t get the attention that they need.

Hey Al, Don King called, he wants his wig back.

El Guapo on December 13, 2007 at 4:45 PM

Why doesn’t Bill Cosby get the same publicity from the messages he conveys as Sharpton and Jackson does? Is there a “good ol boys club” among civil rights advocates or something? or is it because Bill Cosby is advocating family values and getting a job?

El Guapo on December 13, 2007 at 4:47 PM

Martin Luther King had a similar sentiment. He said he yearned for the day when a man was judged by the content of his character, instead of the color of his skin. Apparently we’re still waiting.

JiangxiDad on December 13, 2007 at 4:51 PM

I just want half of what’s in his freezer.

Karmas a bitch when you are a race pimp.

Wow I would have never guess that to be his response /s/

My papa said “son, don’t let the man get you
and do what they done to me.
‘Cause they’ll get you.
‘Cause they’ll get you now now.”

Tzetzes on December 13, 2007 at 10:05 PM

Yum, moral superiority meets moral equivalence.

So does the same standard or onus of proof apply to the righteous? Or are they exempt because they have the only clear and shining path to total enlightenment?

Sucks to be you Al, welcome to the microscope.
