The first % column is the net total of the second 2 % columns.

I am surprised that Sierra Club and Environmental Defense got such high numbers, given their stances on development (favor none), and energy (again, favor none).

Am I missing something here?

There was a note at the bottom that read:

Note: Percentages may not add up exactly to 100% because of rounding

But even that doesn’t explain the huge differences!

Example: The first in the list was Consumer Reports, and the figures are as follows: 91 45 46 7 1

Add those figures and you get 190%!!! Not in my entire life have I EVER seen rounding produce nearly double what it should be!

I’d be amused to see the sort of cranks that don’t trust at all the Red Cross, AARP, or Consumer Reports.

Others have covered AARP well, and covered the Red Cross a bit, but not much about Consumer Reports. There’s some incompetence in certain product areas (basically aesthetics like food and audio gear). But when I gave up on them was when their review of some car (a Mercedes, I think) opened with a line something like “While the spectre of a $45,000 car makes us favor a more steeply graduated income tax…” There’s also the alleged trial lawyers connection that hovers around them. Leftism has corrupted so many organizations that you wouldn’t expect. I mean, the ABA? The American Library Association?? It’s really strange.

Not me! I’m not a member of AARP and I’m well over 55. You can join at agev50, OBTW. I’d rather pay a little extra for a hotel room than give AARP money to lobby for liberal causes. Besides I’ve always gotten a corporate discount usually along with a manager’s special just for asking.

Red Cross? Knew a Master Chief once who had a great sea story about why he’d never give a dime to the Red Cross. Incident that happened in WW II. He was not a crank.

Yeah but if you add the not very much and the not at all boxes the ACLU is pretty close to the MoveOn low score.

I still say victory belongs to the Conservative candidate that declares war on berserk un-civil rights groups.

I see a couple of folks have already addressed the AARP comment. I would definitely be among the “cranks”. AARP is probably the most disingeuous group on the list. At least you know that MoveOn is bunch leftard commies from the positions they take. AARP tries to present themselves as simply an advocacy group for retirees when they are one of the most vociferous nanny state promoters extant.

They never met an entitlement they didn’t support. They are not so stupid that they didn’t understand that the Presidents Social Security initiative did NOT impact anyone who wanted to opt out, yet they fought tooth and nail to maintain the status quo- which any idiot knows is not viable long term.

The AARP are a bunch of left-tard hacks who hide their real purpose. The worst kind of advocacy group.

The Red Cross is going to have problems with people who think that they squandered the 9/11 billions and the people who think that they should have handled Katrina/Rita better.

The AARP is straight socialist nowadays, and I have a hard time believing there is anyone my age (early 30s) who does trust them, with the “GIMMIE! IT’S MINE!” mentality.

Consumer Reports has some percentage of the population who doesn’t agree with something they panned (or raved about) at some point who are going to harbor grudges.

The AARP’s gone all lefty political these days according to my folks.

Always has been but as long as they keep offering the discounts nobody seems to care. It’s sorta like crack for the over 55 crowd. ;-0

I understand the trust issues, most is politically driven. Everyone of the organizations listed except, maybe, Consumer Reports, is a politically motivated activist organization.

I was also a bit surprised by the Brookings ranking, particularly since their assessment proved correct. No good deed… But the Sierra Club? And AARP?

Really? I guess I’ve only looked at their economic stuff; which seems to favor small government – which isn’t really a hallmark of neocons.
