Panic: Team Hillary hits Obama on youthful drug use; Update: Say, did Hillary ever drop acid at Wellesley?

You know how those Republicans are with their dirty tricks.
“The Republicans are not going to give up without a fight … and one of the things they’re certainly going to jump on is his drug use,” said Shaheen, the husband of former N.H. governor Jeanne Shaheen, who is planning to run for the Senate next year. Billy Shaheen contrasted Obama’s openness about his past drug use — which Obama mentioned again at a recent campaign appearance in New Hampshire — with the approach taken by George W. Bush in 1999 and 2000, when he ruled out questions about his behavior when he was “young and irresponsible.”
Shaheen said Obama’s candor on the subject would “open the door” to further questions. “It’ll be, ‘When was the last time? Did you ever give drugs to anyone? Did you sell them to anyone?’” Shaheen said. “There are so many openings for Republican dirty tricks. It’s hard to overcome.”
Obama’s drug use as a kid, which elicited such widespread indifference in the righty blogosphere that I noted it when the story first broke, will be a bigger liability for him than Hillary’s glacial unlikeability and myriad Clintonian scandals will be for her? Really? Ace is in mourning at the possibility that we might not get to run against her. Is there a Democrat alive so stupid that they don’t see this for the feeble, desperate gambit that it is?
I’m tempting fate, but the more the race wears on the more eager I am to see her humiliated spectacularly in the primary. Yeah, it’d be gratifying if we were the ones to smite the Clinton machine, but seeing them rejected by their own fellow travelers, with no vast right-wing conspiracy to blame for Hillary’s awfulness, has a sweetness all its own. The rebuke to Billy Jeff, in particular, would be irresistible, as he’d be replaced as head of the party by a guy just like he was in 1992 but even more so: More exciting, more charismatic, vastly more historically significant, with much, much, much less personal baggage. The beauty of this new attack is how transparently nervous it makes them look. Is this what the titans of the Democratic Party have been reduced to? Attacks about youthful drug use from the people who made the words “But I didn’t inhale” famous?
Look at it this way. We’re almost certainly going to have to contend with Obama as the Democratic nominee someday. Why not now?
Update: Politico makes a good point, though.
Update: Imagine.
Imagine the sheer petulance that would be on display. Imagine watching Bill Clinton have to speak at the Democratic National Convention on the merits of electing the guy who trounced his wife in the primaries.
Update: Like See-Dub says, Hillary’s drug history is eminently fair game now. Not that any reporter will have the balls to go digging, but Obama’s campaign might. Let’s find out just how many bowls she smoked during her college days in late 1960s Massachusetts.

Well, surprise, surprise, surprise…
Frozen Tex on December 12, 2007 at 6:05 PM
Wow. That is the best example of Clinton logic I’ve seen in a while. “The Republicans will do this, so we had to do it first, so they wouldn’t be able to do it.”

Depends how truly ruthless she is. She could
a. divorce Bill
b. come out.

Good gracious, that sounds worse than desparate. You save a low blow like that for the evening before the primary vote.

Lets see,the media hears a rumour of a Republican about
drugs and it goes on forever.Obama used coke,or allegely,
and the only person in the world who brings it up is the
media. No hell freezes over, not the lib media, but ice queen
Hillary,oh wait, the media had to get permission first from
Hillary!

I still say if I was Obama, I’d be more concerned with my physical well being. Hillary’s life has been all about this moment and the Clinton Machine will not let someone swoop in and steal it away from her. The more gains Obama makes in the polls, the more I worry about his life being in jeopardy.
RightWinged on December 12, 2007 at 6:13 PM
Desperation is dangerous.
baldilocks on December 12, 2007 at 6:19 PM
I guess with coke it’s tougher to get away with the “but I didn’t inhale” line.
Obama can have all the blow he wants if he’ll cut my taxes and win the GWOT.

Hey I’ve got a question:
Did Hillary ever use drugs?
It’s fair game now, baby.

I got my campaign contributions from Norman Hsu
He gave me money that I sure could use
People love it when I lose,
They love my dirty laundry
Well, I coulda been suing a McDonalds, but I married up
I just have to look good compared to the rest, I dont have to be clear
Come and whisper dirty tricks in my ear
See my dirty laundry
See me when Im up
See me when Im down
See me when Im up
See me when Im down
See me when Im up
See me go round and round
We got the silky-pony who
Comes on all poor like
He can tell you bout channeling the dead with a gleam
In his eye
Its interesting when people die-
See his dirty laundry
Can we trash Obama’s drug use yet?
You know, the boys in my campaign got a
Running bet
Got the dirt on him all set!
I love others dirty laundry
You dont really need to know whats going on
You dont really want to know just how far Ive gone
Just leave me well enough alone
Eat my dirty laundry
See me when Im up
See me when Im down
See me when Im up
See me when Im down
See me when Im up
See me when Im down
See me when Im stiff
See me when Im talkin southern black all around
My dirty little secrets
My dirty little lies
Ive got my dirty little fingers in everybodys pie
I love to cut em down to size
I love dirty laundry
I can do the innuendo
I can pounce and I can sing
When its all said and done I havent told you a thing
You all know that my crap is king
Give me dirty laundry!

It’s still looking like a quagmire. Time for Plan … darn, I’ve lost track. What letter is she on now?
Dusty on December 12, 2007 at 6:29 PM
I think that’s going too far. I don’t think Hillary is a threat to Obama’s well-being, but I do agree that she will be increasingly cagey, to the point of destructive. Your point that her entire life has built to the moment of a her presidency is well taken.
But desperate people aren’t just dangerous to enemies; they’re destructive. I think if she continues to spiral down she will flail wildly and begin to go after Obama in such a way as to put his general election viability in serious peril. She’ll take him down, the DNC down, and even her supporters down before she herself concedes.
I think for that reason I’d like to see her lose in the primary rather than face the “easy kill” in the general election.
Also, Obama does have his own vulnerabilities. He does belong to a black separatist church after all. . . .
Nessuno on December 12, 2007 at 6:31 PM
Yeah well, the drugs Hill used had a much more dramatic and long lasting effect.
The perpetual anger queen didn’t gain the rank of castrati on buttermilk.
She probably though doesn’t want to cut loose the nastier attack dogs quite just yet.
Speakup on December 12, 2007 at 6:32 PM
She should retreat and pull out of the campaign. She can’t win it.
I hoping…a huge hope…that somehow black Americans will FINALLY see how, as a Rush listener put it, the democrats have “molested” them for years and years and years after Mr. and Mrs. Clinton make minced pork out of Obama.
SouthernGent on December 12, 2007 at 6:33 PM
I’m beginning to feel that way as well. Imagine the sheer petulance that would be on display. Imagine watching Bill Clinton have to speak at the Democratic National Convention on the merits of electing the guy who trounced his wife in the primaries.
Oh, sweet schadenfreude…
Slublog on December 12, 2007 at 6:36 PM
I hear that Mrs. Clinton has been seen stumbling about her hotel late at night turning small steel balls over and over in her left hand while muttering something about ‘missing strawberries’ and ‘a duplicate key to the ward room!”.
It’s getting bad in Clintonland..imagine the fights Billy Jeff and she must be having. The next, and last Iowa Dem debate should be a doozy.
DrW on December 12, 2007 at 6:36 PM
Next attack: As a six year old, Obama pulled a girl’s ponytail and made her cry.
Hollowpoint on December 12, 2007 at 6:38 PM
Don’t forget Bill. A disgraceful loss will be a second repudiation of him, and a sure indication to him of what his “legacy” will look like. This will drive him insane as well, and he would help take down the Dems. with her. There would be nothing to lose.
JiangxiDad on December 12, 2007 at 6:39 PM
If he wins the nod he really is in danger of being assasinated by the Clinton cronies.
Could that really be possible? I think so.
Winebabe on December 12, 2007 at 6:41 PM
Actually its likely to be that his mother dared to not abort him for the sake of the environment.
Speakup on December 12, 2007 at 6:46 PM
I still don’t buy into him getting the nod…….I can’t believe ‘The Machine’ is broken. Sandbagging everyone maybe…broken I doubt. Horse heads should be showing up in bedrooms all across America in the next three weeks.
Limerick on December 12, 2007 at 6:57 PM
God I would love a nasty and devisive Dem Convention in Denver. That’s close enough to SanFran to attract a real motley crew of moonbat ’supporters’. I’m thinking the bar scene from Star Wars.

When she starts on the “vast African-American conspiricy” we’ll know she’s hit bottom.
MamaAJ on December 12, 2007 at 7:04 PM
Seriously… we haven’t even gotten a single suspicious suicide or plane crash yet out of this campaign.
To quote Caddyshack, “I don’t think the really heavy stuff’s comin’ down for a while.”
saint kansas on December 12, 2007 at 7:11 PM
Me too. I like your idea but she’s easier to beat in the general.
Entelechy on December 12, 2007 at 7:34 PM
Oh please people this is not the worst. She is just getting started. When she sees Obamachrist and the finish line both in front of her. Well. There will be a psychic melt down of Berlin Bunker proportions. She’s gonna’ bring it all down man!
ronsfi on December 12, 2007 at 7:42 PM
Oh! and I didn’t think BJC would have to take over as the candidate surrogate until the General. Am I bad for loving every sweet dewy drop. MMMMMM! Soooo creaaaammmmy.
ronsfi on December 12, 2007 at 7:47 PM
If he defeats Hillary, at least he will have something of note to put on his resumee for POTUS.
Zach on December 12, 2007 at 7:53 PM
Though nothing (yet) about her using drugs but…
http://www.wethepeople.la/drugs2.htm
Bresnahan notes, “As heads are still spinning over sex, perjury, abuse of power and security scandals in the White House, trained dogs brought in by the Secret Service detected drug use in and around the Oval Office, sources tell WorldNetDaily.” [September 22, 1998, "Drug Use Probed In White House"].
Hillary Clinton’s drug diary??? Or is this guy pulling our legs?
http://hillaryclintonquarterly.com/hillarydrugdiary.htm
What will she say about her alleged past drug use (pill popping?) that would rival Bill Clinton’s excuse “I didn’t inhale.”? How about “I didn’t swallow?”
Kokonut on December 12, 2007 at 8:07 PM
How electable is Hillary if she loses both Iowa and New Hampshire. I doubt it will happen but it’s a scenario that is fun to contemplate. She would be going into “Super Tuesday” with a big question mark hanging over her head and the Clintons get downright nasty in those situations.
highhopes on December 12, 2007 at 8:10 PM
She’s staying to the right of the Messiah to preserve her options in the general election. That will leave Obama so far to the left that he won’t do well. The best outcome is for them to go neck and neck for a few weeks with Hillabeast digging up dirt and painting Obama as a lefty. Then she will lose out of shear disgust but Obama can’t recover.
pedestrian on December 12, 2007 at 8:15 PM
Obama still has the angle that she’s a huge fan of the Indigo Girls, if you know what I mean.
Big fan of Melissa Etheridge…Ellen Degeneres…
He could always launch that ICBM. But that’s an end game scenario.
benrand on December 12, 2007 at 8:44 PM
This really isn’t good news.
We need her to win the nomination.

Update: Microdots or Sorceror’s Apprentice?
Limerick on December 13, 2007 at 1:00 AM
Several things occur to me. Any or all of which ought be fruitful grounds for investigation.
1)Demography suggests that any candidate younger than ~60 has likely tried smoking dope and possibly more than that. Therefore, any candidate who states positively that they never did is increasingly likely to be flatly lying. I, for one, would rather be told the truth than be weaseled at. Noninhalation comes to mind….
2)This is a remarkably clumsy political hit, well below the usual Clinton/Borg standard. I wonder how, exactly, it happened. Enthusiastic state supporter? Overeager component of the Borg? Desperation? Or someone like Stone or Carville landing a truly expert knife-stroke? Time will tell.
3)I remember certain games that a couple can play with smoking materials…. If Slick Willie didn’t inhale those enormous 60’s hits, where did they go (shudder)? Did Bubba and Goggles really waste the sacred smoke?
Dark Horse on December 13, 2007 at 2:38 AM

saint kansas on December 13, 2007 at 6:37 AM
I don’t think that’s true at all.
I think she has some bizarre asexual power fetish and only finds satisfaction through governing badly.
saint kansas on December 13, 2007 at 6:40 AM
At least Obama is honest. Hitlery Rob’em Clinton does not know what the truth is and it shows in her face when challenged.
ERT uses drugs to alter the effects of the body’s lack of certain chemicals that cause sever mood changes. Her vicious attacks on her husband or anyone that challenge her is evidence she does not follow RX instructions.
So why can she not be honest and tell us what she takes to maintain such a balanced (partisan) view of life, between bouts of fury-she calls WOMEN?
MSGTAS on December 13, 2007 at 9:11 AM
Then frankly, Ace is an idiot. She needs to get no closer to the Presidency than she already is. Like many ’sure things’ in life, beating her in the general is less sure than people think…their own preconceived notions about her shortcomings versus her support apparatus can condemn us to 8 years of another Clinton Presidency…only much worse this time.
Whoever wins the general…Republican or Democrat…we still need the best President we can elect. Obama is an inexperienced rube with some really, really bad ideas, but he would definitely be better than Hillary.
James on December 13, 2007 at 9:23 AM
Guys, guys, guys. This is a Clinton we’re discussing. Whatever Hillary’s problems, Billy Jeff has enormous power and clout and if he wants Hillary to be president, Terry McAuliffe, his Hollywood pals, fellow travelers in the MSM and Warren Buffett have all the power they need to get it done.
I won’t be surprised at whatever dirty laundry, real or not, that they hold up and claim to be Obama’s. If she makes it past the primaries and wins the nomination, they’ll do the same thing to whatever poor slob the Republicans nominate.
Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
Qzsusy on December 13, 2007 at 10:12 AM
So, I get season 2 of the classic “F Troop” for my birthday the other day and I’m watching it with my 8 yr old (who loves it). Capt Parmenter and the gang are about to be replaced at Ft Courage by “G Troop,” and Sgt O’Rourke convinces Chief Wild Eagle to threaten to break their treaty if Parmenter is transferred. They all meet. Parmenter’s Inspector General comes along and says, “But Chief, you signed a peace treaty. You smoked a peace pipe,” to which the chief replies “Me didn’t inhale!” My son didn’t know why I laughed until I cried.
Who knew “F Troop” would presage history so accurately?
