Huckabee to receive major foreign policy endorsement on Friday?

Fresh off his debate win — yes, win, according to ABC — Huck is allegedly heard whispering about big news coming down the pike on Friday in New Hampshire. Any guesses? James Baker, as a former SoS, would qualify as major although he seems a bit too inclined towards realpolitik for Huck’s “do unto others” brand of foreign policy. Huck did “strongly support” Baker’s Iraq recommendations last year on Imus, though.
It can’t be Baker. Think conservative, internationally oriented, and possibly religious. Who?
Update: Born in New Hampshire, praised for his foreign-policy prescience, and religiously diverse! Whaddaya think?

10. 10 huckabee pictures on the front page of this site. The previous record was 9 (set earlier today).
Powell.
lorien1973 on December 12, 2007 at 8:21 PM
Colin Powell?
And, btw, Huck did NOT win the debate. ABC is full of it.
aero on December 12, 2007 at 8:22 PM
You have got to be f*****g kidding me. The man doesn’t know about a new NIE, believes it existed for four years and knew nothing about U.S.-Cuban relations that go back decades.
amerpundit on December 12, 2007 at 8:22 PM
Good pick on policy points and Powell would be a bombshell. But during an election where a black is running for President? I doubt it.

Bolton?
Nahhh….
“national security cred”: Chuck Norris?
see-dubya on December 12, 2007 at 8:23 PM
It’s not Powell. Powell’s been flirting with the idea of endorsing Obama. He’s not going to commit to Huckabee, at least not this early.
Allahpundit on December 12, 2007 at 8:25 PM
I’d have to agree with the belief it’s Powell, though he’s pro-choice and I hope I’m wrong.
amerpundit on December 12, 2007 at 8:25 PM
I’d forgotten about that. He’s advising him on foreign policy, isn’t he?
amerpundit on December 12, 2007 at 8:27 PM
ABC is full of crap. Also, Huck is about as weak on foreign policy as they come. Ask NR or WSJ.
davenp35 on December 12, 2007 at 8:27 PM
A bunch of guys at NR are leaning towards Ron Paul.
bnelson44 on December 12, 2007 at 8:29 PM
Seriously? He might vote for/endorse a guy of the opposing political party just because he’s black? If Condi thinks the same way, I wonder if she’ll support Obama just for being black or Hillary just for having a vagina? My respect for Powell has been dropping for years. If he endorses Obama, I’ll have no respect for him left.

According to the sponser of the debate, Fred won:

How the Paulbots haven’t skunked that poll yet, I’ve no idea.

The guy who won the debate is the guy people remember at the debate 5 days from today. That would probably be Fred for his moderator slap.

Maybe it is Jimmy I endorsing Jimmy II? lol.
MB4 on December 12, 2007 at 8:36 PM
Yes, it’s very odd that a conservative news site would be doing lots of coverage of the guy who’s just become the national Republican frontrunner and whose closets are being emptied of skeletons by the hour. Where are our priorities at?
Allahpundit on December 12, 2007 at 8:36 PM
I agree with Baker. This might even pull some independents off the fence with his Iraq recommendations.

Mark Steyn? I don’t know.

I don’t think it’s necessarily going to be someone from New Hampshire, BTW–that person may come out to make the announcement.

As for Colin Powell, he’s donated $2,300 to John McCain’s 2008 candidacy. Not a dime to Obama.

Hey, a story about Huckabee on Hot Air!!!!!!
Thanks, I’ve been wondering about every move and thought this candidate has, and doesn’t have, or should of had, or somebody thinks he had.
Hening on December 12, 2007 at 9:02 PM
Perhaps “Hot Air” needs to change its name to “Huckabee Air”- the 24/7/365 place to trash one of the frontrunning candidates. I fully expect to find a thread discussing the “time out” little Huck got in third grade but hasn’t discussed during the campaign.
In all fairness, Huckabee’s rise in the polls has happened so quickly that this constant trashing of just one candidate could be the result of catching up with Mitt and Rudy in the discussions BUT just how many threads are necessary for this one candidate?
highhopes on December 12, 2007 at 9:03 PM
Yeah, by Ahmadinejad.
Tzetzes on December 12, 2007 at 9:04 PM
Trash?
For one, this post doesn’t trash him.
Two, all this site and other bloggers have done is pointed out his record. If that “trashes” him, it says more about Huckabee than about this site.
Slublog on December 12, 2007 at 9:05 PM
Dammit, you should be pushing Mitt! What the heck kind of conservative news site is this??
BJ* on December 12, 2007 at 9:06 PM
If RP, or another candidate who can’t win the general election was suddenly the darling, I think there would be a lot of coverage too. This isn’t about Huck, this is about eliminating losers.
JiangxiDad on December 12, 2007 at 9:07 PM
Shall we go through and find how many threads, over the many past months, there have been going after Mitt and Rudy’s records? I’m betting Huck has quite a few less, considering he’s quickly gained the lead just a few weeks before the primary.
Right, because that’s the same as going after the fact he was ignorant on AIDS and U.S.-Cuba relations, didn’t know about the NIE, pardoned more people as governor than Billy Jeff, has an immigration plan assigning responsibilities to the INS…
amerpundit on December 12, 2007 at 9:07 PM
Indeed. For months, the records of Rudy, Mitt, Fred and McCain have been subject to intense criticism. Now that Huck’s record is brought up, it’s “trashing” him.
amerpundit on December 12, 2007 at 9:08 PM
People here don’t like Huck because…this is a conservative site.
Tzetzes on December 12, 2007 at 9:11 PM

Could also be Tim LaHaye, the Christian conservative organizer and co-author of the apocalyptic “Left Behind” novels.
Here is what he wrote in letters that went out in Iowa and other states:
“America and our Judeo-Christian heritage are under attack by a force that is more destructive than any America has faced” since Hitler,Dr. LaHaye and his wife, Beverly, wrote in letters sent to lists of conservative Christians in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. “Defeating the radical jihadists will require renewed resolve and spiritual rearmament by the evangelical pastors in America.”

I like Bryan, and I respect his opinion though I don’t always agree with it – I was just giving him a hard time.
Spirit of 1776 on December 12, 2007 at 9:32 PM
You clearly stopped reading my post about half way through. It’s clear that HA has the agenda of getting Mitt or Rudy into the finals of “political idol” which means tossing every other contender to the wolves as quickly as possible. I stated that, in fairness, part of this might be Huckabees sudden explosion in the polls. I guess acknowledging that part of the post doesn’t fit the moral outrage thing.
Huckabee is not my candidate in the least (too much of a Jimmy Carter vibe about him) but to compare him to Ron Paul’s campaign has got to be one of the most ignorant things I’ve read here. And just who made it the mission of HA to “eliminate the losers” instead of setting up a forum where the candidates can be discussed and vetted. I’m not willing to drink the Rudy Kool-aid that keeps getting offered here without at least looking at the other frontrunners. By frontrunners I mean the ones with a chance of winning in the primaries not people like Ron Paul.
Warped sense of perspective much? 10 active threads on one candidate is excessive when Rudy has clearly been given a pass. There is more to the GOP campaigns than post after post trashing Romney and Huckabee over distractors like faith issues and years-old speeches. Aren’t you in the least bit interested about discussions of relevant issues instead of thread after thread bashing Huckabee for being an evangelical Christian or Romney for being a Mormon? I sure am! Again, I refuse to drink the Rudy Kool-Aid quite yet.

Very unfair to Ron Paul as he has never been a religion baiter or a furniture grabber or a “gift” grabber or a criminal releaser, as far as I know anyway.
I don’t think that he ever called those opposed to rolling out the red carpet for illegals, un-Christian, un-American and anti-life either. Maybe I missed it.
I think he probably knew what the NIE was and were Cuba is too.
Someone owes Ron Paul an apology.

I get your analogy, but I think they’re both rookies. In fact, it is very annoying what kind of kinderleagers dare to declare for the presidency. For ex. why was Mr. Keyes on that stage today?

Btw, RushBaby, who lives in Texas, claims that Ron Paul used to be a great conservative congressman, until he lost a few of his marbles.
Entelechy on December 12, 2007 at 9:57 PM
Doubt it. I was defending Huckabee from a somewhat unfair charge at that point. Note: I was defending Huckabee even while not being a fan or having some agenda to promote or destroy him. I’ve done that twice this week, actually, when the facts carried me that way. Fwiw, I haven’t posted about Rudy much this week because he hasn’t been making news very much. Lately when he does make news, it’s usually not in a good way.
And no, there isn’t any agenda here to puff up or tear down any GOP candidate. We’re just reporting and developing the stories as they come. It’s mindbendingly tiresome how often people assume there must be some clever or dark agenda at work behind everything and everyone nowadays. It’s like the Loose Change mental illness is taking over the world.
