Plant may not be able to hit the notes he hit back in Zep’s heyday but I’d be willing to bet he can hit more notes at 59 years old than most of today’s singers. As for Page’s guitar playing, it’s live, not memorex. Watch video clips of Guns n Roses and you will see that live isn’t about perfect, clean playing but using the ax to work the crowd into a frenzy. And where did Slash learn? The answer is so obvious…

Somehow, the Zep’s live music doesn’t lend itself to become as fine a wine as say, the Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, or Yes.

Silliness. Do you esteem technical skill over musical charisma? Page has it. Hendrix was almost entirely about it. It matters, if the goal is to enthrall with music.

I still wouldn’t pass on the chance to see them in concert.

Pink Floyd “P*U*L*S*E” was still the greatest live show evah. Even better than the Delicate Sound of Thunder.

Maybe Jimmy Page should stop being a punk and allow his song library to be used on the next Guitar Hero game? I know they finally allowed iTunes to sell their stuff.

I envision all these modern bands trying to rock out and get their music videos right and all, and then I see a hulking shadow envelop them, a shadow of godlike proportions…then up to the sky they all look to see a mighty giant with a warhammer the size of a sequoia, who promptly begins to beat them all into the dust with earthquake-like blows raining down from the heavens, all to the exact tune of Kashmir.

Zep will forever be Kings of all that rock.

Every year BB King plays in Nashville for his annual birhday concert. I saw him 10 years ago as well–I think he was turning 70 that year. He was incredible. And what about Eric Clapton? There are certain guitarists like Page, Clapton and BB that one must see live no matter the age of the performer. I only wish that I could have seen Johnny Cash live before he died.

I’m just glad a had awesome seats when I saw Page and Plant a decade ago. Now I’m just waiting on Van Morrison to come back to the Ryman–he came last year and sold out in 8 minutes.

I never said I wouldn’t. Zep’s the reason I play guitar in the first place. Zep’s the reason why I own both a Les Paul and a double-neck. ;)

On second thought, that would’ve been even lamer than three old has-beens shuffling through their ancient hits.

Rock is a young man’s game. Touring for these guys would mean $200 tickets for a stolid, uninteresting 2hr rehash show that’ll be sad by the fourth or fifth gig because Plant will lose his voice.

If their management company is smart, they’ll release this reunion concert on HD DVD/Blu-ray and zap the Zep before they embarass themselves.

I saw Led Zep in June 1977 at the Inglewood (Los Angeles) forum. It was roasting hot in that place and school had just let out for summer. But it was the best concert I’d ever been to out of all I’ve been to. I believe it was their last tour in LA before Bonzo died and it was just before Robert Plant’s son died :(

I had to sneak to the concert because my parents would never have let me go if I’d asked permission. I still have my ticket stub somewhere in my small box of ‘momentos’ packed in a bigger box somewhere in my garage. We had great seats in Loge and it was something like a whole $8 or $9 each for the seats.

I’ve been to a couple of Page/Plant reunion tours in Costa Mesa, Ca and once in San Diego. But it just wasn’t the same, although, Jimmy Page’s guitar playing was spell bounding nonetheless.

This is Led Zeppelin, folks! Try to keep things in perspective!

Oh God, yes. If it wasn’t for that cheezy goatee, Plant would look more like an old lesbian than Page.
