I doubt they are the actual drums, it would be nuts to bring that out. Maybe for one show, but my guess is that they are DWs.

Still, Jason has his Dad’s kick drum sound nailed. Amazing.

Stairway wasn’t mediocre, it was awful. I haven’t heard anything else. Page is just as sloppy as he ever was. You would think that after supposedly rehearsing your signature song for six months, you’d be able to hit the FIRST NOTE of the solo correctly. But, no. In fact, the whole first phrase was off. And the rest wasn’t so hot, either.

Even Vapor Trails only had four good songs–which they were smart enough to play in concert and leave the rest alone.

Four is being generous.

“Snakes and Arrows” blows “Vapor Trails” away.

As far as lyrics go, I personally think Peart is second only to Roger Waters.

And no, a cover album is not new material.

The lyrics to “Armor and Sword” are exceptional. I could use several adjectives to describe thewm, but half-assed or insipid would not be one of them.

Half-assed and “insipid”?

Yeah, and since he’s a 20-year card-carrying Rush fanatic who happens to be complete left-wing atheist poet, that’s saying something about how crappy the lyrics are on Snakes and Ladders.

My criticism of the CD is that it sounds like a Geddy Lee solo album but with better drums and guitar… to which my fanatical Rush fan friend replied:

“Oh s— dude. I didn’t think it was that bad. G—amn, that’s f—in’ harsh”

It is the first Rush CD of new material since Vapor Trails btw.

I suppose a studio album of cover songs doesn’t count as “new” because that crappy CD was a stopgap solution for them to finalize their half-assed insipid lyrics.

Even Vapor Trails only had four good songs–which they were smart enough to play in concert and leave the rest alone.

“They” said DLR couldn’t sound good anymore, he sounded great.

If Plant doesn’t strain too much he should be able to make it. Technology can help him if not.

They’re getting raves, and apparently they took all of this seriously: they’ve been rehearsing for six months. If there’s one good thing about getting old, it’s that eventually you’ll be given the chance to relive your childhood. Except now……

Looks like it’s the entire Bonzo “Song Remains the Same” set. Jason sounds so much like Dad it’s scary. Kashmir was chill-inducing good.

Why, when all these bands re-unite, do they insist on doing all their old songs tuned down a whole step?

Because the singer can’t hit the high notes anymore. PErsonally, I’d rather hear it in the same arrangement tuned down, than a totally different arrangement to accomidate the singer’s more limited range.

If those old ladies tour, Plant will sound worse and worse. By St. Louis he’ll be croaking through the 3rd song of the night and giving William Shatner-like dramatic readings of “Stairway” for the encores.

…and don’t even get me started on Rush playing all of “2112″ in G instead of A on tour. For God’s sake, Geddy, I’ve heard your new stuff and you can still hit those notes…you’re just being lazy.

Musicians tune down for the vocals…period.

Regarding Rush, I saw their recent snakes and arrows tour twice. The new album is exceptional and it was the best Rush sounded in years. I am aware they are using some vocal tracks but Geddy can still hit some pretty high ones. That being said, they did tune down a full step for “circumstances” on this tour for the same reason.

But 2112? No way can Geddy hit those notes anymore.
