Did Plant include the stupid “Does anybody remember laughter” line? You’ll just have to watch, won’t you?
Rave reviews from the Times and AP, and no wonder. They’ve apparently been rehearsing for six months. Exit question: Zep Over America ‘08?
Update: The good news? The stars were out. The bad news? Jimmy Page looks like an old lady.

Goodness, I hope so. Thats one re-tread I would actually sit through.

If you play it backwards…

In the Ron Paul blimp?
JetBoy on December 11, 2007 at 8:47 AM
Hah hah ha Jimmy Page always looked like a little old lady, now even Robert Plant looks like a little old lady…
doriangrey on December 11, 2007 at 8:55 AM
Amazing. The concert was yesterday, and this video is already on YouTube.
John Paul Jones (real name John Baldwin) has the right idea for his hair. I’ve come to believe that a man reaches maturity when he realizes that he looks better with his hair short than long.
Bigfoot on December 11, 2007 at 9:01 AM
My all time favorite rock band. In my opinion, their music has weathered the test of time very well.
Compare this to what they call music today and you can begin to understand why the record industry is in trouble.
voiceofreason on December 11, 2007 at 9:01 AM
Why, when all these bands re-unite, do they insist on doing all their old songs tuned down a whole step? I don’t want to hear this song in G, or Ab. I want to hear it in A Minor, the way it was intended.
otcconan on December 11, 2007 at 9:04 AM
…After watching the whole thing, my question is answered…Robert Plant’s voice is only a shadow of its former self.
otcconan on December 11, 2007 at 9:07 AM
On the plus side, the playing was good. It’s been a long time since someone actually nailed that drum part RIGHT with them. I guess the Son of Bonzo deserves some kudos.
otcconan on December 11, 2007 at 9:09 AM
sweet! Makes me want to dust off the old bong.
ThackerAgency on December 11, 2007 at 9:16 AM
Holy cow, someone on a message board I post on just gave us this. More Led Zeppelin for you.
Bigfoot on December 11, 2007 at 9:16 AM
Ok…as mediocre as Stairway was, Kashmir is AWESOME. Thanks for that, Bigfoot.
otcconan on December 11, 2007 at 9:31 AM
If you enjoyed that, be sure to check out doriangrey and me next summer on the “Let’s SHRED for FRED!” campaign tour.

I wanna see Bonzo Jr. tackle “Moby Dick”.

Is that Robert Plant or wait I think it’s….yes it’s Bert Larr!! The Cowardly Lion lives!!!!
bobeast on December 11, 2007 at 9:41 AM
Heh. You stole the words off my lips.
I had the chills at 1:10; it’s not very often that your youth just jumps off the computer screen and comes to life. And you critics of the key Plant chose — you try to sing this thing in A minor, sport. The guy’s 73 years old, give him a little slack.
Jaibones on December 11, 2007 at 9:48 AM
The strings are not as tight. Easier on the fingers…
AlexB on December 11, 2007 at 9:49 AM
Jason Bonham has his Dad’s time sense and feel.
Nice to see he’s playing the amber Vistalites, can’t tell if they’re Ludwigs…
Awesome.

Kick ass. I saw Plant live on the Non-Stop-Go Tour in ‘88 in OKC. I stood mesmerized for two hours. He rocks.
Zep sounds great. I tivo’d VH1 Classic so I can’t wait to see it.
journeyscarab on December 11, 2007 at 11:03 AM
That all depends. If you’re using the same guage strings, yes. But I suspect it’s for Plant’s benefit, in which case Page moved up to .10 or .11s. If you slacken the strings to make bending better, then it throws out the entire intonation of the guitar. I suspect Page doesn’t need to do that, as his set with the Black Crowes at the Greek was in standard tuning and wasn’t that long ago.
It makes bending better, as well, but as I said, the compromise is in intonation. Everything here indicates he moved up a gauge in string, because it’s spot-on.
And I wasn’t really trying to rain on the parade, because I thought Kashmir was great (different guitar, by the way, and different tuning as well). It’s just that when I hear that song, and Plant’s performance on it, it really makes me wonder how he can’t nail “Stairway.” “Kashmir” would be harder, in my estimation.
…and don’t even get me started on Rush playing all of “2112″ in G instead of A on tour. For God’s sake, Geddy, I’ve heard your new stuff and you can still hit those notes…you’re just being lazy.
otcconan on December 11, 2007 at 11:18 AM
Musicians tune down for the vocals…period.
Regarding Rush, I saw their recent snakes and arrows tour twice. The new album is exceptional and it was the best Rush sounded in years. I am aware they are using some vocal tracks but Geddy can still hit some pretty high ones. That being said, they did tune down a full step for “circumstances” on this tour for the same reason.
But 2112? No way can Geddy hit those notes anymore.
awake on December 11, 2007 at 11:28 AM
This Zep performance wasn’t as embarassing as I feared, but to be fair I had my expectations REALLY low. And when your expectations are “Michael Keaton will suck as Batman” low, then any competent performance looks okay.
If those old ladies tour, Plant will sound worse and worse. By St. Louis he’ll be croaking through the 3rd song of the night and giving William Shatner-like dramatic readings of “Stairway” for the encores.
And that last Rush CD was such a disappointment–even my fanatical buddy in Dallas said the songs were half-assed and the lyrics “insipid.” It’s the first Rush CD of new material I haven’t bought since Vapor Trails
ScottMcC on December 11, 2007 at 12:02 PM
75% Zep is still better than 100% Dixie Chicks – or Matchbox 20. Just my never-to-be-humble opinion.
psrch on December 11, 2007 at 12:06 PM
Aw man! I’ve got an inch of dust in the bottom of my bong….
WooHoo, bring on the Geratol tour!
Kini on December 11, 2007 at 12:14 PM
Because the singer can’t hit the high notes anymore. PErsonally, I’d rather hear it in the same arrangement tuned down, than a totally different arrangement to accomidate the singer’s more limited range.
crazy_legs on December 11, 2007 at 12:49 PM
Looks like it’s the entire Bonzo “Song Remains the Same” set. Jason sounds so much like Dad it’s scary. Kashmir was chill-inducing good.
crazy_legs on December 11, 2007 at 12:53 PM
Sorry, otcconan. That’s what I get for not reading the entire thread.

XM Satellite Channel 59 – All Led, All The Time. Best. Channel. Ever.
pullingmyhairout on December 11, 2007 at 1:57 PM
Then your buddy should stop abusing scripted meds. Half-assed and “insipid”?
It is the first Rush CD of new material since Vapor Trails btw.
awake on December 11, 2007 at 2:04 PM
Led Zeppelin threw a long ball last night and scored. There can be no objective argument against that conclusion. Why? Because Zep’s show both in delivery and substance, were lavishly praised by Hotair commenters not to mention NYTimes and AP reviewers.
clghitis on December 11, 2007 at 2:04 PM
Sigh, the reviews are through the roof. If they actually schedule a concert in my area the chances to get a ticket will be none to none.
Rode Werk on December 11, 2007 at 2:07 PM
I’ve nominated Both Jimmy and Robert for addition to this site

I doubt they are the actual drums, it would be nuts to bring that out. Maybe for one show, but my guess is that they are DWs.
“They” said DLR couldn’t sound good anymore, he sounded great.
If Plant doesn’t strain too much he should be able to make it. Technology can help him if not.
I’m there to hear the music anyway…
Wow, Kashmir is incredible. Love the flanger on the cymbals.
benrand on December 11, 2007 at 3:07 PM
Yeah, and since he’s a 20-year card-carrying Rush fanatic who happens to be complete left-wing atheist poet, that’s saying something about how crappy the lyrics are on Snakes and Ladders.
My criticism of the CD is that it sounds like a Geddy Lee solo album but with better drums and guitar… to which my fanatical Rush fan friend replied:
“Oh s— dude. I didn’t think it was that bad. G—amn, that’s f—in’ harsh”
I suppose a studio album of cover songs doesn’t count as “new” because that crappy CD was a stopgap solution for them to finalize their half-assed insipid lyrics.
Even Vapor Trails only had four good songs–which they were smart enough to play in concert and leave the rest alone.
ScottMcC on December 11, 2007 at 4:11 PM
I am sooooo impressed. I’ve always been a half-ass fan, but I just purchased the Mothership…and would go see them if they did tour.
And I don’t do concerts much anymore. Hate crowds. But will deal to see Robert in person.
73?? You’re kidding me.

ROTFLMAO…I so love the sound of that….

Inglewood, California, The Forum 1977… ;)
doriangrey on December 11, 2007 at 9:05 PM
Four is being generous.
“Snakes and Arrows” blows “Vapor Trails” away.
As far as lyrics go, I personally think Peart is second only to Roger Waters.
And no, a cover album is not new material.
The lyrics to “Armor and Sword” are exceptional. I could use several adjectives to describe thewm, but half-assed or insipid would not be one of them.
awake on December 11, 2007 at 9:30 PM
Ok…as mediocre as Stairway was, Kashmir is AWESOME.
Stairway wasn’t mediocre, it was awful. I haven’t heard anything else. Page is just as sloppy as he ever was. You would think that after supposedly rehearsing your signature song for six months, you’d be able to hit the FIRST NOTE of the solo correctly. But, no. In fact, the whole first phrase was off. And the rest wasn’t so hot, either.
CraigC on December 11, 2007 at 9:53 PM
Still, Jason has his Dad’s kick drum sound nailed. Amazing.
