Video: Ron Paul blimp fantasies growing ever weirder and more grandiose

posted at 3:27 pm on December 11, 2007 by Allahpundit

As is true of most Paulnut campaign endeavors, it’s at once stupid, impressive, endearing, and darned odd. You’ll be tempted to quit after 20 seconds, but hang in there or else you’ll miss the galaxy’s most impressive nebula and the perfunctory quasi-conspiracist imagery at the end.

If the FEC isn’t taking a hard look yet, they will be soon. Exit question: If Derb is for him, who can be against him?

Should someone who looks like Emperor Palpatine really be using Star Wars imagery?

steveegg on December 11, 2007 at 3:31 PM

I think the blimp in front of the nebula is now your mandatory thumbnail for all Ron Paul related news.

see-dubya on December 11, 2007 at 3:33 PM

I don’t mean to be difficult but…how is the blimp flying in space?

And why am I not shocked that the video is CGI, features Star Wars music and tells me that it’s my duty as an American to fund a blimp supporting a nut?

amerpundit on December 11, 2007 at 3:35 PM

At least it’s not a Ronulan Warbird.

Frozen Tex on December 11, 2007 at 3:36 PM

who are these people and why do they have so much time on their hands?

I don’t mean to be difficult but…how is the blimp flying in space?

It achieved exit velocity.

They’re great Americans, true patriots and the only true freedom lovers!!!1! So much time? So much time? You can always make time to help a revolution!

/Ron Paul whacko

amerpundit on December 11, 2007 at 3:38 PM

Pretty soon, they’ll be able to shorten that significantly. Just continue the image at around :30, showing what looked like was going to happen – the blimp getting sucked backwards into the sun.

eeyore on December 11, 2007 at 3:39 PM

Da Blimp!

The brains of many RP supporters achieved exit velocity a long time ago.

I don’t mean to be difficult but…how is the blimp flying in space?

Your blimp wouldn’t survive in space because you paid for it with fiat money. Ron Paul’s blimp is payed for with money backed by gold. It makes all the difference.

What’s going to happen to these fools when the votes are actually cast and the good Doctor only gets like .03 of the total?

Drew on December 11, 2007 at 3:44 PM

Never mind the FEC; what about George Lucas?

calbear on December 11, 2007 at 3:49 PM

If the FEC isn’t taking a hard look yet, they will be soon…

I want to see the video when they send up a couple of Apaches to escort it down?

eeyore on December 11, 2007 at 3:52 PM

Derb’s always been a bit “different”, but now he has officially gone off the deep end.

offroadaz on December 11, 2007 at 3:55 PM

Good God! For a moment there I thought the blimp was going to get sucked into the sun and be incinerated… much like the brains of the Ron Paulistas.

I know…this would be the first time in recorded history that helium conquered gravity.

Now, if you’ll look closely at this chicken-wire blimp model….

James on December 11, 2007 at 3:58 PM

In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the blimp. Then when you get the blimp, then you get the power.

And then you get the women.

saint kansas on December 11, 2007 at 3:59 PM

bnelson44 on December 11, 2007 at 4:01 PM

offroadaz on December 11, 2007 at 3:55 PM

Well, people shouldn’t vote for Ron Paul because he’s a kook. But that wasn’t my point.

My point was Paul supporters really seem to believe there’s a ground swell of support out there. Mostly that’s because all 8 of them apparently talk to each other all the time and spam the same online polls. My question was, what are they going to think when the reality hits that no one but them takes their guy seriously?

Drew on December 11, 2007 at 4:02 PM

James on December 11, 2007 at 3:58 PM

Im about %80 sure I will be voting for Paul in the primary

I doubt he will win and I will support whatever republican gets the nomination. So, to answer your question, a Paul loss wont suprise me. Im hoping that his campaign and message might inspire some other people to take leadership roles in their local governments and follow through with his ideas

offroadaz on December 11, 2007 at 4:10 PM

@ Drew on December 11, 2007 at 4:02 PM

IDK about you, but in my group of friends who are VERY pro 2nd Amendment and religious, although I am personally not religious, Ron Paul is pretty much the favorite of everyone. You know all of those changes in positions you all talk about for all the other candidates? The pandering for votes and what not? Yea, Ron Paul has none of that, says what he thinks, votes along the constitution ALL the time, and is pretty much the ONLY true republican running.

muyoso on December 11, 2007 at 4:16 PM

Im hoping that his campaign and message might inspire some other people to take leadership roles in their local governments and follow through with his ideas

Well, good luck. I am not sure there’s much local government can do about that darn fiat money and implementing a less ‘interventionist’ foreign policy but have at it.

Drew on December 11, 2007 at 4:16 PM

Yes, he’s a 12/6 Republican. Know who he’s also popular with? Neo-nazis and conspiracy theorists.

IDK about you, but in my group of friends who are VERY pro 2nd Amendment and religious, although I am personally not religious, Ron Paul is pretty much the favorite of everyone.

They must be part of the 5% that support him.

amerpundit on December 11, 2007 at 4:19 PM

IDK about you, but in my group of friends

Now that was my point. There are some groups of people with whom Paul with resonate but not many in the grand scheme once other people start voting.

I think a lot of them(though perhaps not you and offroadz here) are going to have a reverse Pauline Kael moment and wonder how Paul could have lost, everyone they know voted for him!

and is pretty much the ONLY true republican running.

With all due respect, that’s just nonsense.

Dennis Kucinich would almost certainly find this blimp in violation of his Space Preservation Act.

Ron Paul will go down faster than a lead zeppelin (and yes, that is how the band got it’s name, courtesy of Keith Moon). And I don’t think he will surprise us and end up winning.

mram on December 11, 2007 at 5:36 PM

The video on serves to confirm my opinion of Ron Paul and the Paulbots.

They’re nuts.

.

GT on December 11, 2007 at 5:36 PM

Isn’t there a story from Greek mythology about flying too close to the sun?

Or should I take this video to mean Ron Paul is the best candidate to… send political blimps to Mercury?

He’s going to initiate a Rushmore-like project to put his face on a nebula?

Where’s the freakin’ star destroyer blasting the crap outta that thing when you need it.

And by the way, the Bavarian Illuminati all the way, baby. 10/10 Power and a 5 MB privledged attack…

Nethicus on December 11, 2007 at 5:37 PM

One blimp and nebula frame almost looks like he’s smoking a blunt.

Kini on December 11, 2007 at 5:45 PM

You know all of those changes in positions you all talk about for all the other candidates? The pandering for votes and what not? Yea, Ron Paul has none of that, says what he thinks, votes along the constitution ALL the time, and is pretty much the ONLY true republican running.

the problem is this is all a myth and he’s not a ‘constitutionalist’…….he is a crank literalist most of the time, contradicts himself the rest. He is by no way shape or form a Constitutional Originalist like Scalia, Thomas, Roberts…

and he does pander, whether placing pork for his district in the budget(ALOT of PORK) or pandering to 9/11 Truthers, neo-nazi’s and other conspiracy nuts that sane candidate don’t get within a mile of.

there is not a thing Republican about him, whether comparing him to Reagan or Goldwater!!!!! Jeez, its unreal the mental gymnastics that paultards go to, to make him out to be the ‘real conservative’….he is the real nutjob in the race.

Jonah Goldberg has a column on just how not like Goldwater or Reagan he is.

jp on December 11, 2007 at 5:49 PM

I almost wish this nut job would get some poll traction like Huckabee has, so the political process would take him on the way it has huck. They would absolutely destroy this nutjob inside a week by simply exposing him.

jp on December 11, 2007 at 5:50 PM

Wow, I must say Ron Paul has managed to beat out Mike Gravel in “lamest, most boring ad. EVER.”

I mean, at least Gravel’s Fire ad was somehwaat comforting if utterly pointless. If George Lucas hasn’t sued for basically taking an entire 5 minute track of the Star Wars he will soon.

The Ronulans have outdone themselves. Loved the Illuminati reference too.

BKennedy on December 11, 2007 at 5:57 PM

My question was, what are they going to think when the reality hits that no one but them takes their guy seriously?

You’re missing the point. It’s not about the candidate. It’s about the message. It’s about getting people excited about traditional American values like personal liberty, limited government and non-intervention. It’s about telling people that they don’t have to plug their nose and support the least offensive of the phony-conservative “compromise” candidates out there, like Huckabee, Giuliani or Romney. Even a 5% showing in a primary state would send a powerful message that people aren’t satisfied with the establishment candidates.

Most aren’t even registered republicans. How will they vote for him?

In Iowa and New Hampshire, you don’t need to be a registered Republican to vote for him in the primaries. And in states where you have to be a Republican to vote in the Republican primaries, it’s easy enough to switch your party affiliation for the primaries, like I did.

Mark Jaquith on December 11, 2007 at 6:22 PM

I keep thinking this looks like something the slaves of Allah would put together. Or maybe Furries …just not normal people.

BL@KBIRD on December 11, 2007 at 6:23 PM

It’s about getting people excited about traditional American values like personal liberty, limited government and non-intervention.

except “Non-Intervention” IS NOT a “Traditional American Value”……this is a lie and a myth the fortress america crowd puts forth, Pat Buchanan is atleast honest about it.

Thomas Jefferson lobbied for war with the Barbary Pirates edved/2007/11/07/responding_to_lies_about_americas_isolationist_past_afor over a decade before he sent the troops in and went to war with them(without congress passing a ‘declaration of war’). and that is just one example, this nation has deployed Troops overseas nearly 200 times since inception!

Michael Medved had a great column on this issue not long ago:

Responding to lies about America’s “isolationist” past and “imperialist” present

jp on December 11, 2007 at 6:29 PM

Reminded me at one point of that super-old man-in-the-moon-gets-rocketship-in-the-eye cartoon.

Didn’t Huck say he’d like to send Hilary out into space? Maybe we could send Paul as well.

(Even though I like his libertarianism and federalism…)

Tzetzes on December 11, 2007 at 6:52 PM

You know, in a way, a blimp is the perfect symbol for Ron Paul. A big floating gasbag.

Farmer_Joe on December 11, 2007 at 7:04 PM

I thought the blimp was Ted Kennedy.

Ever notice how many Paul supporters have comments linking to spam sites or M.F.A’s? It’s almost as if Paul supporters are hanging around Wickedfire all day, not just Digg. That’s a hint.

It’s so odd how Ron Paul’s on-line supporters campaign for him using the same unsavory (but deliciously profitable) tactics a select few on-line marketers use to sell Soma and Enzyte. As if they leave asinie comments on hundreds of blogs to generate outrage and drive traffic to their splogs.

Now there’s conspiracy theory we can all enjoy, and one that answers the question of what these Paul supporters will do after Paul loses. Find another buzz generating cause that puts Adsense money in their pockets.

Rob Taylor on December 11, 2007 at 10:03 PM

amerpundit on December 11, 2007 at 4:07 PM

That’s one of the things they don’t want us asking about. Look at the tapes! The ascent was way too controlled to be caused by an airship.

James on December 12, 2007 at 7:15 AM

I dislike “Blame America” Ron Paul only a little less than I despise Shrillary Clinton. But even that’s a close call.

desertdweller on December 12, 2007 at 11:04 AM

How in the world can any Republican support Paul? He believes Bush flew military planes into the WTC, or at least the supporters do. He has said Iraq was an illegal war. His supporters heckled Rudy at the Mackinac conference, as he was getting off the ferry!!! They chanted “9/11 was an inside job!”

They also harassed tourists (wqho were not convention atterndees) on Main Street at Mackinac. They handed out flyers and spoke of the “New World Order”. An friend acquantiance of mine recently began supporting Paul. His e-mail signature now says “9/11? Really?”

These supporters can also be seen on the “Zombietime” site at “Impeach Bush” and Iraq war protest rallies. They are completely insane.

If Paul is nothing like his supporters , he really reallly needs to explain himself.
