Poll: How much is Oprah’s endorsement worth to Obama? Update: New polls show Obama surging?

Compare and contrast. It’s not so much O-mentum as no-mentum. Advantage: The Hammer.

Big bursting bombshell at Politico, meanwhile: Barack Obama is, or was, a rather doctrinaire liberal. “You mean the same guy who wants to aggressively negotiate with Iran?” you say. One and the same, my friends.
When Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) was seeking state office a dozen years ago, he took unabashedly liberal positions: flatly opposed to capital punishment, in support of a federal single-payer health plan, against any restrictions on abortion, and in support of state laws to ban the manufacture, sale and even possession of handguns…
A week after Politico provided the questionnaire to the Obama campaign for comment, an aide called Monday night to say that Obama had said he did not fill out the form, and provided a contact for his campaign manager at the time, who said she filled it out. It includes first-person comments such as: “I have not previously been a candidate.”
Obama, who makes an issue of his opponents’ consistency in the presidential race, has tempered many of those 1996 views during his quick rise to the pinnacle of American politics. He now takes less dogmatic positions many of those hot-button issues — in the view of some Democrats, he abandoned the stands as he rose through the ranks.
Note the assertion near the end by the GOP strategist that no old-school liberal in the Obama mode has won an election since Jimmeh. True, but Obama’s appeal is such that his policies are almost beside the point. He’s running on charm, an irresistible race-transcendent narrative, and the squishy, quasi-messianic promise of “change.” Throw him in there against another guy whose policies are beside the point, like Huck, and why not vote for him?
Update: Case in point, which I guess destroys the logic of my Drudge post this morning: “Not that what one blogger thinks matters that much, but if Huckabee gets the nomination, I’m voting Democratic.”
He won’t really, though. None of us will.

Update: The logic of “anyone but Hillary” is also crumbling. Political Wire says a poll out this afternoon will show the Messiah even at last in South Carolina, and Steve Sherman notes some intriguing movement at InTrade. An Obama/Huckabee election. The atheist’s dream.

I wouldn’t buy a brand of toilet paper if Oprah endorsed it.

Agreed.

I don’t know that this is a foregone conclusion… especially if the choice is “Frigid and Calculating Powermonger” Clinton vs. “All 1000 of Those Violent Criminals Found Jesus” Huckabee.
Lehosh on December 11, 2007 at 2:36 PM
That would a moronic mistake (voting dem. Cutting off nose to spite face teritory). Nice pic. Use it more often.
Frozen Tex on December 11, 2007 at 2:36 PM
Wanna bet an iPhone I won’t vote Huck?
amerpundit on December 11, 2007 at 2:36 PM
How ironic.
He’s using Bill’s campaigning tactics to run against Hill.

Ace gets to the root of what I mean:
Lehosh on December 11, 2007 at 2:37 PM
Don’t let anyone kid you, anyone who can attract 30,000 to a rally is an asset to any campaign.
bnelson44 on December 11, 2007 at 2:41 PM
If you wanted proof of the dumbing of America you’ll find it in this poll with an increase of support for Hillary because of her husband’s involvement in her campaign.
shick on December 11, 2007 at 2:41 PM
My sister is the liberal black sheep of the family, and last year used her blog to excoriate Oprah for her support of “A Million Little Pieces” author, James Frey. And she frequently takes Oprah to task for her self-aggrandizement; anything “good” Oprah does is for the Greater Glory Of Oprah.
Frozen Tex on December 11, 2007 at 2:42 PM
What planet is Ace living on where the house/senate will be GOP? Hillary means D in the WH, D in the HoR, D in the S. The trifecta of pure eeeevil.
lorien1973 on December 11, 2007 at 2:45 PM
Huckabee is a creation of the left . . . he’s the most beatable Republican and his nomination would ensure that a Democrat occupies the White House in 2008. The GOP lost control and is a sinking ship without a sail or rudder. Sad but true.
rplat on December 11, 2007 at 2:49 PM
Hillary is not to the right of any of the Republican possibles. What she is, is a calculating politician who knows that this country is generally aligned center-right. So she will appear to be just that. She learned it from watching her husband win by doing just that.
And remember kids, a Hillary win means we get Bill back in the WH.
Defense Guy on December 11, 2007 at 2:50 PM
Which is why I could live with a hillary presidency. She’s a pragmatist if nothing else. We got more done, right of center, done during the 90’s then we did during Bush’s admin.

She’s a snake oil salesmen. What we will get is Billy Jeff v2.0, with none of the charm.
Defense Guy on December 11, 2007 at 2:57 PM
Why is that an atheist’s dream? I would think that
an atheist leading in all the polls would be an
atheist’s “dream,” no?
I bet we do have an atheist running for office right now
but they can’t just say they’re because as the polls you post here, Allah, show that wouldn’t
sit too well with the public.

The founding fathers had a sense for a portion of the population being stupid. They tried to work around that, but never counted on how bad it would be in the future.
I really don’t know enough about Oprah to say something witty, but she seems to attract the type of crowd that needs constant therapeutic input, has zero self identity and somehow manages to miss the point that they are tools.
Every time I see her she is a different dress size as well. She seems to expand and contract quite a bit.

I’m going to open a waterboarding resort for all the GOPs that say they’d vote for Billary. Room and board and two square meals a day, along with a waterboarding experience everyday. Health insurance will be provided free of charge. Illegal immigrants are welcome. Free college tuition for every illegal immigrant below poverty level X 84. You will be required to pick grapefruit one hour a day. Hurry, we’re booking up fast.

Hee, hee! Got anything for the ones who’d vote for Obama?
Frozen Tex on December 11, 2007 at 3:20 PM
I like that. Nothing could be more true.
They lived in an age of intellectual discussion, civil discourse, common sense and honesty. Today’s world was unforeseen and unimaginable to them.
They had it right, but as you said, stupidity got in the way.
fogw on December 11, 2007 at 3:22 PM
Do not underestimate the power of Oprah. She will motivate people who have never voted. People will believe Oprah before Hillary. Oprah’s machine is just starting. Look at what Mitt’s money did for him?

It’s the Vajapocalpyse!

Liberals base everything they think on what movie and rock stars think. Why do you anyone goes to the Huffington Post at all? So the Oprah thing is no surprise. Not to mention that she had “Song of Solomon” on her booklist and it became a hit like 25 years after it was written. These are the fools that follow the cult of Oprah. I remember her favorite book was, “The Bridges of Madison County” and she did a whole show about it. What a POS that book was but all of her cult followers loved it too. And they will pretty much do whatever she says. They’re worse than Moonies.
foxforce91 on December 11, 2007 at 3:43 PM
Exactly! Anybody that would flog “The Secret” to her unsuspecting pack of dullard fans would flog Obama just as quickly. And another poster made an equally prescient point: Whatever Oprah does is for the good of Oprah.

[foxforce91] has it right. Nail on head. The end is near. Our country will soon be gone.
My question; once the islamist detonate the 7 nukes in 7 cities can I stop paying my taxes?

Sorry for a post that doesn’t add anything to the thread, but: <lol>

Perhaps conservatives should support Kucinich. If we must have a liberal POTUS might as well select the one who will be a biggest disaster. lol

Obama is the Secret…
Tzetzes on December 11, 2007 at 7:38 PM
Even moreso during a primary. If she could sway just 10% of them to vote for Obama and they convince 2 people each…
SouthernGent on December 11, 2007 at 8:05 PM
AP: “He won’t really, though. None of us will.”
Not to worry. If Republicans nominate Huckabee, it won’t matter who you vote for.
