Max Mayfield destroys Democrats’ global warming conspiracy

Democrats have been darkly theorizing that the Bush administration pressured former National Hurricane Center director Max Mayfield to downplay the dubious link between global warming and more frequent, stronger hurricanes — which haven’t actually been happening with greater frequency, but never mind that. Recent hurricane forecasts have been wildly off too, but never mind that. The Dems released a report yesterday titled Political Interference With Climate Change Science Under the Bush Administration, just to make sure the world knows what they think. They think Bush is bad, evil, and constantly engaging in one conspiracy after another. Noted. We’ve heard 7+ years of that. We get it.

Unfortunately for Henry Waxman and his merry band of sleuths, Mayfield is able to speak for himself, and he says that the Democrats’ 16-month investigation is wrong.

The former director of the National Hurricane Center says political pressure did not cause him to change his congressional testimony to downplay the link between global warming and hurricanes — contradicting the findings of a Democratic led investigation released Monday.

“I can truthfully say that no one told me at any time what to say in regard to possible impacts of climate change on tropical cyclones,” said Max Mayfield in an e-mail to ABC News.

“I want the record to show that no one forced me to say anything on the subject of climate change and tropical cyclones that I didn’t believe at the time,” Mayfield told ABC News.

“I accept the fact that global warming is real,” Mayfield said. “Most meteorologists with knowledge of tropical cyclones think that there will be some impact from global warming on hurricanes. The debate is over how much of an impact.”

He says he never heard from anyone on the committee about the incident. “No one ever asked me about the context in which my testimony was given. No one from this committee or any other Congressional committee ever asked me if I was improperly pressured to change my testimony,” Mayfield said.

The phrase “…that I didn’t believe at the time” is key. The Waxman investigation alleges that emails it obtained from NOAA officials regarding the dubious gw/hurricane link prove that Mayfield testified under pressure. His email to ABC says that’s not so, that he testified according to what he already believed based on the science. So why didn’t the Waxman group ask Mayfield directly about all this? Could it be that they knew how he would answer and just didn’t want to hear it? That’s the most logical explanation. What we have here is another piece of evidence that the Democrats just don’t care if any of the charges they lob against Bush are accurate. They just. Don’t. Care. And neither do their supporters.

Still, this has been a bad week for the Democrats. They have been exposed on waterboarding, had their dark CIA tapes conspiracy evaporate, and now their global warming conspiracy is gone to the ether as well. Should we put the nutroots on suicide watch? Or just await the next bogus conspiracy theory?

Expect this inconvenient call to have zero impact on the likes of Waxman.

*Sigh* Just wait for the next one. And the next one after that. And the next one. And the next one. They’re too stupid to get suicidal over their failures. Their failures aren’t their fault, you see. Everything is all Bush’s fault.

Yes on waiting for the next conspiracy theory, and a definite NO on the suicide watch because the public is still largely buying their lies and propaganda and the media will continue to assist them.

Anyone notice the media hyping of dire at the beginning of the hurricane season, and the deafening silence when the season turned out to be a BELOW AVERAGE season? The exact same thing happened last year. Equally annoying is the fact that half way through the season they make “mid-season” predictions, which are more observation than prediction. They simply lower the forecast, once their predictions appear to be failing… it’s disgusting that it passes for science. Again, the same thing happened last year.

Maybe the real suicide watch will begin when they have control of the House, the Senate, and the Presidency. Who will they blame then? Oh yeah, the corporations! Nationalize health care. Nationalize oil. Nationalize Microsoft.

Bleh.

“I want the record to show that no one forced me to say anything on the subject of climate change and tropical cyclones that I didn’t believe at the time,” Mayfield told ABC News.

Okay, so someone did try to pressure Mayfield, but it doesn’t count because he already believed what they were pressuring him to say? I think it still counts that someone did try to influence an important climate expert on the subject of global warming and tropical cyclones. So someone did ask him to downplay the link between global warming and stronger, more frequent hurricanes. That actually corroborates the Dems’ conspiracy theory. It doesn’t matter that Mayfield was going to say that anyway. Someone wanted to make sure that’s what he’d say.

Another key phrase is “at the time.” Mayfield believed there was little or no link between GW and worsening storms “at the time,” which implies he thinks otherwise now. Again, seems to corroborate the Dem point of view to me.

In short, upon reflection, I don’t think Mayfield destroyed the Dems’ conspiracy theory at all.

I do like how he exposed the fact that the committee never even asked him what happened, though. That’s pretty good.

If this is Global Warming, I’ll live with it. It’s 75 degrees in Middle Tennessee right now. LOVIN’ IT! I think I’ll fire up the grill tonight. Mmmmm steak.

robblefarian on December 11, 2007 at 12:44 PM

Yes, if I recall correctly, this winter was supposed to be much warmer than the previous. And lo, it snows on Thanksgiving Day. Two weeks later, the snow is still on the ground, and thicker than it was after Thanksgiving. Meteorology is a funny occupation.

I actually heard one of the GW alarmist guys put forth this exact position on FoxNews yesterday. I almost spewed coffee on my TV. Basically he said that too cold or too hot all the same and caused by us. They’re going to change the scenario to match their agenda facts notwithstanding. Our only hope is if they stop breeding and abort themselves into extinction.

Must be nice! (Why wasn’t it in the 70s in Dec. during the 5 years I lived there 01-06?) Here, in VT, we’re excited that it broke 30 today! We’ve had basically all teens and 20s this month, with a lot of single digits to lower teens at night… Noticeably below average. Usually any snow this time of year melts in a couple days. Not the 6+ inches we got a couple of weeks ago, nor the 2 or 3 yesterday… and we’re supposed to get another 2-6 tonight.

Yes, most of them will now talk about “Climate Change” and “Extreme Weather” instead of global warming. They like “Extreme Weather” because you can sell anything to young folk nowadays just by putting the word “Extreme” in front of whatever you’re selling.

If global warming is causing these waves of ice rain in Oklahoma City, then I’m a believer.

What kills me is, they also associate temporary cooling as a part of the overall global warming effect. So, in essence, if it gets too hot, we’re right. If it gets too cold, we’re still right.

I love it when all bases are covered.

P.S. Frozen Tex, -33 Celsius? Where the hell are you, in Norman?

He’s not in Texas, that’s for sure. Texas is pretty far from frozen. It’s been in the 70s-80s for much of the past month here. Hard to get in the Christmas spirit when you’re wearing shorts and flip-flops in December.

Sheets of ice for the last 2 days, here in OKC. Raining now. Yesterday morning, over 400,000 were without power, just in the OKC area. We might have snow, tomorrow.

Flip-flops and bike riding sound really good, right now. Enjoy!

Yellowknife, NT, Canada. About here.

While I grant, it’s supposed to be cold, it’s 15 to 20 degrees Celcius colder than it normally is right now. During the week I took my heavy-duty parka in to be refurbished. Lucky me.

Yeah, those cold fronts just aren’t quite making it down to central and south Texas. We’ll get a day or two at a time of 40s-60s, and then it’s back up into the 70s and 80s again.

I’m just fine without sheets of ice, though. Central Texans just do not know how to drive on ice (including me), so the tiniest bit of ice basically shuts us down almost completely.

So sorry to you and others dealing with these monster storms, though. It does make me feel petty for complaining about shorts and flip-flops in December. Stay safe and warm!

Bet on it. In 2004 the Bush Guard memos were quickly debunked, but the MSM/DNC have learned: their plan for 2008 is a political DDOS attack, a tidal wave of crap too large to be effectively dealt with.

When something graduates from “scientific possibility” to religion status it is very hard to discuss it. All religions seem to have their “dogma” and after all it is very hard to argue with the “will of god”. To bad that global warming has achieved that status.

Last night I went to bed with a tummy ache, I was wondering if I am sick or hungry, it was actually around 6AM, then it hit me. Remember when we use to hate kids because millions went to bed hungry at night, but now 66% of us are overweight? ALARMISTS.

Dems will always sound alarms to get money for their projects. They seem noble, but they are not. Just like other alarms, Global Warming will soon pass, but not after much ridicule from the left for hating God, just like the kids.

Now they want to take away snake foods in schools, just like SUV’s, soon it will be your wide screen HDTV, or your laptop.
