Canadian dad imposes fatherly discipline on daughter who refused to wear hijab

posted at 1:10 pm on December 11, 2007 by Allahpundit

If his own 911 call is to be believed, he choked her to death.

Friends at the victim’s school said she feared her father and had argued over her desire to shun the hijab, a traditional shoulder-length head scarf worn by females in devout Muslim families…

The victim’s brother, 26-year-old Waqas Parvez, was also arrested on a charge of obstructing police…

Pal Ebonie Mitchell, 16, and other friends said Aqsa still wore the hijab to school last year, but rebelled against dressing in it this fall.

They said she would leave home wearing the traditional garment and loose clothing, but would often change into tighter garments at school.

She would change back for the bus trip home.

“Sometimes she even changed her whole outfit in the washroom at school,” Mitchell said.

Said one of her father’s co-workers of the suspect, “He was Muslim and very devout, very observant.” Exit question: Is Mark Steyn going to get sued if he writes about this?

Heartbreaking. Is it just me or is there more than the usual amount of tragedy and senseless killing this week? I hope this man stays in jail the rest of his life.

Neighbours described the family as very private and said several members from three generations have lived in the two-storey home, near Hurontario St. and Eglinton Ave., for just over two years.

I read at another blog that there were 11 people present in the home when this barbarian strangled his little girl.

RushBaby on December 11, 2007 at 1:19 PM

Nothing more than human sacrifice.

While the apologists do have a point in that non-Muslim groups pull this kind of crap, too (remember the Yazidi girl who was stoned to death), the fact of the matter is that Muslim clerics have not acted against this kind of savagery for thousands of years, and even encourage it with their adherence to primitive and repressive social mores.

Muslims in Quebec a few years ago tried to get the government to allow a Sharia-based mediation court. The Government said “Non“.

And thenthere’s this.

Reader beware: While Qubec’s official resistance is good, keep in mind the Quebecois are incredible xenophobic. After a failed referendum in Quebec that would have led to Quebec separating from the rest of Canada, the leader of the separatist party publicly blemed the failure of passage on “Immigrants and Jews”.

When I first saw this story on the news, they blurred the girls face because she was a minor, and wouldn’t release the name of the family. You could see in the girl’s picture though that there was a head covering. I had wondered at the time if it was an “honor killing.”

Well, I guess that’s why they had the apologist on CityTV today, saying there is no compulsion in religion, that she didn’t have to wear the hijab if she didn’t want to, etc.

Based on what normally takes place in the Canadian Justice system, it is unlikely that he will actually see a whole lot of jail time, unless he lucks out and gets one of the tough judges & one of the few tough prosecutors.

Just as a hypothetical, assume this case takes 2 years to go to trial, during which the accused is detained, he gets convicted of second degree murder (might be a stretch) and sentenced to “life” in prison. “life” in prison in canada means 10 to 25 years, but since he spent 2 years in pre-trial custody, he will likely get credit for 3 times that, giving him 6 years off his sentence, resulting in him being eligble for parole in as little as 4 years.

I wonder why he called 911 and told them he had killed her. Might be buyer’s remorse, or he is proud of what he did. He may just be gambling the Canadian legal system will handle it like the German court who wouldn’t stop the Muslim guy from beating his wife because it was a cultural thing. Be interesting to see how the Canadian system handles both the trial and the sentencing, or if they allow Sharia input.

As I do condemn what her father has done, let’s not forget the reason for her death is not just because of her choice to not wear the hijab, as there must have been other issues, but of course the family will not tell the police to protect their “honour”.

Her death was seemed to be more of a cultural issue rather than religion based.

Just in case there is any doubt; more from PeaceLove:

…surely you understand that this child severely disrespected Islam as surely as if someone had torn your bible from your hands.
Why do all other religions enjoy peace free from prosecution but Islam is singled out as unacceptable?
This is your law. We come to your country and obey your law. To ask us to ignore our culture while we do so is just racist.

Islam is a religion of peace, but this woman (she was not a girl) deliberately disrespected her father’s wishes and her family’s religion.
She knew their would be consequences for her actions and she chose to accept them.
Honor killings are called so for one reason. They bring honor and glory to Islam.

Islam is the oldest religion in the world and its tenets have been respected for centuries.
Neither the woman nor the child has the right to determine what aspects of Islam they will or will not abide by.
This decision is solely the husband’s or the father’s right. You may not agree with this, but this is how we do things.
Any good Muslim would have done the same thing as this father.
I am not a particularly religious man, but I see where he had no choice
.

…this is our religion and falls under our religious law. Shouldn’t religious law preempt all local laws? Is not murder like a man with a gun, after all.

The father does not regret his action in protection of his religion.
The woman, be daughter or wife, exists to serve the man, and the father gave the daughter many opportunity to abide by his will.
She chose not to and was well aware of the consequence.
Do not pretend this act was that of a random, insane man, this man was following Islam perfectly and was willing to sacrifice his daughter so to bring honor and glory to his religion.
I urge any of you who believe differently to sit down and a have a frank conversation with any Muslim you may know or work with, or come across in the street. Some may be intially reluctant to share their thought until you show your dedication to them.
Trust me, many, many Muslim completely support the act of the father. The daughter knew the consequence.

This is not the view of all Muslims; but it is the view of the radicals who want to behead and/or enslave the rest of us, the ones who are swamping North American and European mosques with hate literature, the ones who want to extend this savage theocratic code of ‘justice’ to the entire world. This is the face of Jihad. And it is not a ’small percentage of extremists,’ as the ostrich-like media would have us believe — it is a significant and growing demographic within the western Muslim community. It should be noted that two other commenters claimed to be Muslim and chastised this disgusting clown, but they are safely anonymous. In Canada, there have been death threats and murder attempts on moderate voices — as has been documented both here and on Michelle’s site.

You may not agree with this, but this is how we do things.

Not in this country, it isn’t.

Nope.

he she or it does not recognize that killing people is not right, that a weoman is not legaly responsible to her father, that the wearing or not wearing (outside of certain minimal requirements (nudity in public and or a mask in public)is not a hanging offense) plus a few others.

seems to me that folks that have his, her or its problems might be a candidate to be tucked away in a place where they give you “meds” that allow you to change your mind to become more “civilized” and will keep you there until you renounce the things that got you there, all of the time tucked away in a white canvass jacket with those neat wrist straps.

Jaibones on December 11, 2007 at 5:52 PM

We had the death penalty until some time in the 70’s, when the Liberal Party (no joke, that’s what it’s called) repealed it, even though a majority of the population supported it (still does today). And jail sentences get shorter and shorter because judges are afraid of handing out too harsh a sentence that gets reduced on appeal. You may have noticed a the name Picton in a few comments here, and references to pigs; he’s a pig farmer/serial killer that abducted and murdered over 20 women and so far, after his first trial, has only been convicted of 6 counts of second degree murder. The fear of many Canadians is how he will be sentenced. “Life” in Canada is 25 years, and he could be eligible for parole in less than 10. Our Justice system is horribly flawed, and spiralling down the drain. This is the background to our fears that not much will happen to this poor girl’s father.

CAIR-Canada springs into action – condemns…domestic violence:

The Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CAN), the Islamic Social Services Association (ISSA) and the Islamic Society of Toronto today urged “zero tolerance” for violence against women and domestic abuse. The Muslim groups are calling on Canadians of all faiths to address the realities of domestic violence.

CAIR-CAN and ISSA are also asking for the strongest possible prosecution in the strangulation death of 16-year-old Aqsa Parvez, a Mississauga teen allegedly attacked by her father.

“There should be zero tolerance for violence of any kind against women or girls,” said ISSA President Shahina Siddiqui. “The strangulation death of Ms. Parvez was the result of domestic violence, a problem that cuts across Canadian society and is blind to color or creed.”

“Muslims and Canadians of all faiths need to reflect on the realities of domestic abuse and take concrete steps to eliminate violence against women,” said CAIR-CAN Board Member Selma Djukic.

Is it just me, or does the absence of any mention of the hijab, or honor killings, and chalking it up to a “problem that cuts across Canadian society and is blind to color or creed,” sound more like they care about saving face than what really happened here?

And in their hearts, they’re all saying “Good for him.”

Our honor killing friend is certainly a good devout Muslim, don’t let anyone tell you he is not. The youngest brother (if there is one) would ordinarily get this job. Eleven people in the house? They all knew it was coming, they all felt it was right (or were too frightened to say anything).
This was over the head scarf, had this been a case of her being seen with a boy or the wrong boy, she might have been raped and sodomized by available uncles or proxies before execution.

Islam is a unique case of it being proper to throw out both bathwater and baby. Especially the baby.

This is the result of a lock-step admiration to a religion
were your precious and most beautiful product, shared by a
couple who wanted to bring joy into their lives and share
with the world is snuffed out because the prophet Mohammad
commands it.

The God I know is a compassionate and loving,I cannot for
the life of me even try to understand this, this is not the
light, this Canandian girl was taken by the dark.

I have a daughter,she is 17 years old,she is my world,
as I’m writing this she just got home from Gymnastics,
she’s a junior coach.My main concern,she goes to work,
and comes home safely, what kind of obeidence in this
religion of peace were your own loving daughter is ruled by Allah and is above your will, were the home she lives in,is
not safe,it becomes a prison.

If you live in Canada,or the United States of America,
you live by our laws, our customs,if thats not agreeable
then pack up,and move back to your war torn countries from
which you left.Period.

Honor killing is not a tenet of Islam. It just happens to fit Islam like a glove and has always thrived with it. Like a Christmas tree is not in our Bible but is widely used by Christians to mark Christmas anyway. It’s not so about pleasing Allah. it’s maintaining “honor” in the community of other Muslims.

I hope this man stays in jail the rest of his life.

To Hell with him, put a bullet in his head and be done with him. He is an evil waste of skin.

Also, non-Muslim Arabs, North Africans, Persians, and Indians sometimes pull the same stunts. Islam certainly doesn’t do much to help, though, in terms of how it is frequently practiced and preached. Moderate arguments can be made against the extremist interpretations.

It’s usually fatal for the moderate, but the arguments can be made.

I thought the same thing when I read about this man murdering his daughter, he fits our description of an insane person, someone who would kill their own child. It tragically happens. But make no mistake, this man, nor so called “peacelove” mentioned above, nor any muslim man that is devout is not insane. It’s their religion that holds its adherents to these bizarre standards. It’s normal for them. ‘Honoring’ their religious laws is more important to them than their own child’s life. To us it’s a sickness, to them it’s normal. It continues to amaze me that the normal people still twist themselves up trying to defend or explain why muslims continue to do things like this. It’s not ok, it never has been or will be, and everyone should stand up and say so.

It’s deafening, it’s so intense, really. Same from the ‘progressive’ entities of the world, and from here. See one Lawrence O’Donnell. The View will shed light on it.

4 shoes:

i was born and raised in an area 5 miles beyond where the pavement ends and the west begins.

it was and still is the classic western america. they have certain feelings about the woemenfolk as do I.

our weomen help us and guide us over the rough patches. they smooth off the rough edges and help us mature and form ideas and attitudes to be proud of.

they keep the home fires burning and make a place warm for us after a day feeding stock in 40 below weather.

they are the ones that we raise our right hand to protect and serve.

they are also the ones that accept our flags given to them by a grateful nation.

they are a major part of who we are.

AND THIS A##H94E STRANGLES ONE OVER A SCARF.

i still say he needs 13 halfhitches and a short drop.
