Video blogger rendered instantly obsolete by freakishly awesome super-DVR

I knew it was only a matter of time before I was replaced, but I always figured it’d be by a superior blogger — or perhaps, if the market was accommodating, a Japanese dronebot with the snark level set to “high.”

Alas, my friends, I didn’t see the enemy coming until it was too late.

10 tuners and gobs of storage aside, the coolest thing about this SnapStream DVR is its search interface. We’ve not seen anything like it in the DVR world: the DVR stores the closed captioning signal—where available—as a stream of text, which is then searchable by the end user like a database. Spelling errors on live television events aside, this allows users to flag any shows in which certain keywords pop up, and even send an e-mail alert when this happens. Selected programs can then be burned to DVD-R in standard MPEG-2 format that can be viewed by any media player.

Not so fearless prediction: This piece of admittedly saccharine-sweet machinery is itself already being rendered obsolete by technology that not only does the same thing, but does it for free. Shhhhh.

Man…does this mean it will be filtering Match Game ‘74 reruns on Game Show Network that have questions with innuendo? Say, for boobs for example?

Is AP a video blogger?

If so, is he the only video blogger that no one has actually ever seen?

lorien1973 on December 10, 2007 at 9:40 PM

Yeah, but HD video will render that thing obsolete in no time. :)

Alan on December 10, 2007 at 9:46 PM

While it is possible to record all of that content. Viewers still need someone to go through/edit it (along with the great screen caps) so you have not been replaced yet.

When Michelle buys you an iPhone then you can consider that to be your severance package and consider yourself replaced.

Is AP a video blogger?

No video bloggers produce original content with their own video camera. He’s just a blogger but that’s cool too.

terryannonline on December 10, 2007 at 9:48 PM

Genius, but you still gotta watch the video to figure out it’s value. However…

In our pop culture sound bite/gotcha media, this technology and blogs in general have done about all they can to raise awareness. Still we (conservatives) are behind the curve.

What is needed for blogs and new tech to support themes established by backbone media. Gore’s movie, OutFoxed, Moore’s movies are the competition’s backbone.

We need more movies like Mine Your Own Business, and Emancipation Revelation Revolution to be the backbone of the theme of the Lefts corruption.

And it is time for our own “Out Foxed”. What it would take is Terrabytes of video from CNN etc demonstrating a pattern since 911.

This device would serve the day to day appetite for “gotcha news”, but like fast food its long term impact needs to be the theme.

And it will never ask for an overpriced, gadget-laiden superphone…

JetBoy on December 10, 2007 at 9:53 PM

This is old technology. I use it everyday :).

Ian on December 10, 2007 at 9:54 PM

But does it blend?

RushBaby on December 10, 2007 at 10:05 PM

Does it have snarky one liner comebacks,
and would the snarky one liners be adjustable
to say sports and politics, and is it possible
to get your snarky comebacks in politics, but
with a sports analogy!Oh,the possiblities.hehe

canopfor on December 10, 2007 at 10:20 PM

Does George Seros and his gang know about this? Imagine how they can screw up politicians with this stuff.

Good musings. Maybe version 2.0 could heist snark about sports and politics from blogs and put them on TV!

RushBaby on December 10, 2007 at 10:30 PM

Good Musings…

Allah who?

ej_pez on December 10, 2007 at 10:46 PM

Robot snark doesn’t deliver the same oomph that anonymous human snark does.

Besides, I hate to be wrong.

Wrong about what?

Allahpundit on December 10, 2007 at 10:53 PM

Geez, AP. Now you can find Rosie when she has a cameo on some obscure show on the military channel.

In this specific case, you being the blogosphere’s personal DVR.

When did the military announce they were bringing back blimps?

I may be dense or else I missed something, but speaking of videobloggers, what happened to Bethany and RealVerse??

Theologian on December 11, 2007 at 12:17 AM

Don’t worry, the question comes up from time to time. Bethany announced that she was moving on to other projects, then did just that. What those other projects are is not clear, but she did say goodbye before she dropped out of sight.

If anyone knows more, please add to or correct me.

RushBaby on December 11, 2007 at 12:52 AM

Pretty cool but if you want serious news, you would still have to filter things like MSNBC, NBC, CNBC, Olber and on and on……….

Ouch!

Zorro on December 11, 2007 at 7:39 AM

The only thing that I use the television for is watching The Andy Griffith show. I’m worried that I’m going Howard Hughes.

Anything worth seeing is on computer anymore.

Thanks….that’s too bad…I liked her show.

Anyone else remember the DJ 3000 on The Simpsons?

DJ 3000 robovoice: “Those clowns in congress did it again. What a bunch of clowns.”

Live DJ: “How does it keep up with the news like that?”

I imagine a scenario in which the SnapStream and Allah fall for the same Japanese fembot, leading to a 2001-type standoff.
