So, let me get this straight:

1. A religious person saves lives
2. An atheist asshole mocks her
3. A more sensible atheist defends her
4. A religious asshole mocks him

If you are a believer then you have only two ways to handle this question.

Either we have no free will, have only the illusion of choice, are all God’s robots, and are completely non-responsible for our decisions.

Or we all really have free will … which means that bad people will still be able to do bad things to good people.

If you are going to debate the existence of God with the religious, try to do your homework first. You make the rest of us atheists look bad.

I appreciate you correcting Jaynie59. Christians need it at times too.

But I suggest an accurate list of the options. Your no-freewill option needs correction. It is not accurate of many Christians that differ from freewill Christians. As a predestinationist, I respectfully disagree with your characterization of it.

1. No-freewill: I actually believe in freewill but it is a chain that limits us to do only what we want to do. Beyond the chain is what we ought to do or what God would have us do.
2. Illusion of choice: This goes with the first. I believe that man is free to make any choice he wants. It is not an illusion.
3. God’s robots: There are no robots in the Bible. :-) There are pots, however.
4. Non-responsible for decisions: We are completely responsible for our actions. This is a paradox. But it is logical and Biblical.

I recommend reading all of Paul’s letter to the Romans.

If Christians are “nuts” as you say, perhaps you need to move to one of the beautiful Middle Eastern countries, lets say perhaps, Yemen? Perhaps Saudi Arabia is more your style? I’ll bet we can get you to Somalia. You just might fall in love with their beautiful Christianless beaches!

Yeah, the whole thing is pretty damn funny, until you remember that lives were lost, families disrupted forever, and children lost parents, etc. Yeah, a real laugh riot. Assholes.

Wow. Calm down a bit. Bad Penny wasn’t calling the event itself funny, just the answer to the question the reported asked.

It’s possible to find something funny out of something so horrible without finding the entire situation funny.

In fact, I find this part of the story amusing:

“First, I called him ‘Coward’ then I called him ‘S—head’ ” Bourbonnais said. “I probably shouldn’t have been saying that in church.”

The man was faced with a life and death situation, yet he’s looking back on it and thinking he shouldn’t have cursed in church.

I might even disagree with him. In reading the article it seems that it was exactly that curse word which got the gunman’s attention and possibly saved lives.

So many people have commented on your quote here, and at first I was pissed at you. Just a short time after this horrible tragedy, here you are insulting these dead people and the majority of the world that actually believes in and worships God.

But after thinking on this a little, I just pity you.

You’re right Jaynie. Because the world would be such a beautiful place if nobody ever died. If only God would take away free will and save everyone from death, we could then all starve shoulder to shoulder in this gorgeous world of 987 trillion people and enjoy life as God’s puppets.

Good point. People tend to blame God for death as though they really want people to live forever and they complain about the evil in the world without realizing that they’re complaining about having the ability to choose.

Wow! Some people are so full of hate that even an incident like this is an opportunity for them to vent their antipathy towards the God who loves them. Amazing.

Amazing indeed. While most are thanking God that a greater tragedy was averted, Jaynie59 expresses nothing but hatred for Him. Very sad.

How many of you have atleast looked into hand gun permits in your state since last week?

With the new surge of Walter Mitty’s out there dreaming of being a hero, getting on TV and dating a pretty blonde gunslinger, I don’t really feel the need to pack heat.

Unfortunately, I’m in Canada; CCW permits are so rare as to be nonexistant. Fortunately, I’m in safe part of the country (in a vast region of 2 territories, The Northwest Territories and the Territory of Nunavut, with a combined population that couldn’t fill a US college football stadium, 2 police officers were KIA at routine calls in the space of 1 month). I’m safe.

IDK if its because I am a gun nut, but i need details about the guns used.
