Nope, Geek boy. She's far too lovely to let a little 1960's communist nuclear threat to get in the way. Go back to your nano lab and leave this to us.

I say she ratchets up the stakes, and actually slaps Helen this time. It won't matter what she says next -- she will enter the Hall of Washington Fame unscathed.

Tony Snow: "Thank you, Helen, for the Hezbollah point of view."

Dana Perino: "I was panicked a bit because I really don't know about... the Cuban Missile Crisis. It had to do with Cuba and missiles, I'm pretty sure."

Compare and contrast. And weep mightily.

Too bad. I agree with those who say she has to get tossed overboard. But I've been impressed with her whenever I've seen her. She's so much better than anyone else Bush has had for PS, except for Tony Snow, of course. And she is hotter than Georgia asphalt. I can already see the Playboy issue after she retires--Hot Babes of the White House Press Room.

Granted…, she was foolish, careless, and irresponsible…, but I’m willing to bet that this will prove to be just what she needed to be catapulted into the mind set she needs to maintain if she’s going to succeed in the ‘adult’ political realm. I expect that Bush, being who he is, will let this roll off his back and stand behind his choice of Dana. ...Rugged Individual on December 10, 2007 at 7:21 PM

She should have been catapulted before she got the job which is an adult job and paid for out of my pocket, to boot

Those guys were toying with her and she was running at the mouth thinking it was all a big success.

The Cuban missile crisis is not dead history. It is a defining moment, that has not been apologized for by our government, which means we still stand by our actions and hold the old tyrant Castro responsible for what happened at that time. It affects all decisions related to Cuba which is still run by the facilitator of that crisis.

Contrast this loser, who should go on a speaking tour with Brownie, with a well spoken gentleman I had the honor to meet who was involved in that crisis. Who took injuries to help obtain the photos that were used to prove the Russians had set up in Cuba. We did not have surveillance satellites, cell phones, pc's, or any of the electronics that idiots (yes idiots) like the lady above take for granted. It was a hand held camera, and danger in the skies to obtain with no rewards the proof for the world to see

Sigh. How we have dumbed down.

She is proud to be ignorant and too ignorant to know she is being laughed at.

This is a Yes-or-No question as far as I am concerned.

The WH Press Secretary should know what the Cuban Missile Crisis was. End of story.

Its only one of the top 5 foreign policy crises this country has ever faced.

Now, if someone asked her who Moe Greene was, or Frank Pentangeli, or the Rosato Brothers, and she didnt know, that would almost be excusable. Or if for example she didnt know that Questadt belonged to Hyman Roth. Almost.

But to not know the story behind the CMC is in my view evidence of some serious ig'nance.

If she's not a natural blonde, fire her.

Otherwise, she needs to do a report for Cheney, by next Monday, on the reasons for and results of the three Punic Wars.

If she doesn't know the meaning of:

Carthago delende est.

by then, she's canned.

Cute only goes so far.

Fortunately (or UNfortunately)..., a HUGE number of Americans, who are OLDER than Ms Perino couldn't describe the Cuban Missile Crisis or The Bay of Pigs incident any better than her. It seems that the majority of those who are unforgiving of this haven't listened to or recognized the exchange for what it is... A light-hearted conversation between a somewhat naive press secretary, who suspected no ulterior motives on the part of her discussion partners, and NPR, Lib-Hacks whose perpetual mission is to destroy Bush, at all costs. She felt safe due to their typical Lib-speak about loving her and considering her a GOOD friend etc...

Granted..., she was foolish, careless, and irresponsible..., but I'm willing to bet that this will prove to be just what she needed to be catapulted into the mind set she needs to maintain if she's going to succeed in the 'adult' political realm. I expect that Bush, being who he is, will let this roll off his back and stand behind his choice of Dana. Personally, I'm more concerned that her admitting to having a bad hair day might cause SOME to think Helen Thomas wasn't out of line after all. Let's see what happens.

So what? She's the Press Secretary, not the White House historian, and she's <strike>telling a story</strike>.

If she was asked to comment on the Cuban Missile Crisis in an official capacity it might be an issue. As it stands, it's just a funny story.

Sheesh.

As for "how it would play," these aren't the Clintons. Political calculation doesn't control every second of their day.

It’s bad enough not knowing what the Cuban Missile Crisis was but then not knowing enough to never tell that story in public?

Even more so considering that she changed topics to bring it up! It's not like they pressed her about "embarassing episodes." She was all like "I didn't know what the Cuban Crisis is, isn't that funny?!"

Yeah, I was thinking that too. To be ignorant is one thing, but to be ignorant of how your own ignorance will play?

I dunno. Considering what's running Congress right now, seems to me that she fits right in in that regard.
