Don’t take it personally, Mitt. This happens every six months or so, as regular as the changing seasons.
In fact, to see just how regular it is, follow that last link and compare the April screencap to this one. Same shirt and tie even, huh?

That’s his Meltdown Style, baby! Coming soon to a Kmart near you.

Who is Larry O’Donnell and why do I care?
VinceP1974 on December 9, 2007 at 8:16 PM
Nice meltdown. Hitch would have been aghast and proud simultaneously.
Oh, and I think Romney is a buffoon.
thejackal on December 9, 2007 at 8:16 PM
Wow! This guy is pretty bigoted!
asc85 on December 9, 2007 at 8:17 PM
This is why I’m glad Romney did that speech if for no other reason. To see the loonies…on BOTH SIDES…meltdown. LOVING IT!
SouthernGent on December 9, 2007 at 8:18 PM
Ugh. Maybe this explains why a poll showed more anti-Mormon bias among liberals than conservatives. We all know racism is the unforgivable sin to them (but genocidal communism is A-OK!)
As an aside, it really troubles me how people on both sides of the issues conflate deficiencies with Mormonism and criticisms of its claims at Christianity with the issue of whether that disqualifies Romney to be president. They are to my mind to very separate questions. As a (general) supporter of Mitt, I get really turned off by his pundit supporters who label those who believe Mormonism isn’t Christian or even a cult as “bigots.”
Coming to a theological conclusion based on a study of the religion isn’t bigotry. Hating Mormons or never voting for one probably is though. I just wish people would keep that distinction in mind.

The semi-annual Lawrence O’Donnell meltdown. Hence my three links to examples of Lawrence O’Donnell meltdowns.

That is some quality crazy. How screwed up is it that Pat Buchanan and Eleanor Clift are the sane ones?

I just happened to have seen that on the McGoofey program.
I have never seen such unadulterated prolonged vile hatred displayed on TV, not even on fiction shows.
Evaaar!
I sure hope that no one ever lets that guy anywhere near a gun.

How he has managed to stay out of a mental institution is beyond me.
Oh, that’s right, the McGoofey program is a lot like a mental institution.
He needs to be in one with padding and thorizine injections though.

Pat Buchanan and I are on the same side of an issue. Something must be wrong.

You’re hurtin’ my noggin! Now I’ve got to think in degrees of bigotry? Like in “Is this guy only slightly bigoted?” or “Is he an all out full blown genocidal bigot?” Are there degrees of bigotry? Too deep for me.
Oldnuke on December 9, 2007 at 8:33 PM
It helps to cover up the burn marks from his weekly electro shock treatments.
Obviously he is going to need them more often than once a week.
I guess that means more shoe polish too.

It would be interesting to ask O’Donnell (being as well versed in religious matters as he is) about Kwanzaa. I mean, if he’s that fervent about the founder of Mormonism, how must he feel about a religion completely made up by a felon??
Oh wait, that dudes black…

Romney’s just not that polarizing, folks.
aero on December 9, 2007 at 8:49 PM
When Eleanor Clift isn’t buying Larry’s rant, it’s fair to conclude that he’s off the charts unhinged.
Romney really needs to set these people straight on the facts, particularly about his father’s record with civil rights, and how he broke from the LDS church on this issue.
Buy Danish on December 9, 2007 at 8:51 PM
Wooo! Rant-o-rific.

Wind Rider on December 9, 2007 at 8:59 PM
Holy Moly! (No pun intended. Well, maybe… :P) Anyway, this guy is off his rocker…
I’m impressed with Buchanan pointing out that Christianity did bring in slavery and the inquisition. I’d hardly think anyone in this day in age could rationally say that all Christians are racist slave-owner villains. Like all religions, there are a few bad eggs in every proverbial basket.
I’m a secular humanist and have nothing but respect for the level-headed, law-abiding citizens of any religion. Some of the most compassionate, loving, caring, intelligent people I know are Christians.

Here’s the bottom line,if Mitt Romney was a rock,
the lefty’s would be whinning about the dirt it’s
sitting on,or the moss.
The sooner and longer the media keeps throwing crap against the wall, some will stick, this media non-stop hammering of
Mitt Romneys religion is sickening, but thats how the left
operates, now the buzz word is “Cult”, and I will keep saying
it.
The Liberal Democrats platform is empty,no illegal alien
amnesty,no surrender,no cutting off troop funding,no
impeachment,no fence,Pelosi’s dream of the house being
cleaned up,total failure.
So,Jefferson’s freezer is empty,we have foley,the wide
stance, and now the NIE report, which by the way, there trying
to spin into a crime,or cover-up.
So one by one the left will keep going after every Republican nominee, that’s how they campaign, that’s their
strategy,just ask Newt,Kenneth Star,Judge Clarence Thomas,
remember Annita Hill and the coke can.
Yup,Liberal’s are against war,but boy o boy they love
search and destroy missions against Republican’s.
canopfor on December 9, 2007 at 9:05 PM
What a moron. Basic research refutes everything he said.
Mormons opposed slavery, though they were weak about it - scared for their own skins. They eventually became more forceful. Much like our country, it’s founders welcomed blacks, but lost their way.
O’Donnell should be attacked full on for his outrageous statements - the likes of which he would not DARE to level at Islam - or the Democrat Party for that matter.
The Democrats created the KKK, repealed rights granted after the Civil War - to be reinstated 100 years later. At that time they didn’t even vote for it - Republicans passed it.
I hate Democrats. That should be my new screen name. Republicans are getting on my nerves to. You SOBs better start learning about our own damn party and standing up!
Why does it take a black man to tell you this?! Damn this guy really got me pissed.

There were two violent attacks on Evangelical Christian groups today and Christians on American soil are dead. I can’t help but think the attitude of this thread contributes to the anti-Christian theme in American society.
I am NOT suggesting that Allah is supporting the killing evangelical Christians but why oh why are we still screwing around with nuances seeking to demonize Romney and Huckabee as “too Christian” to be a Presidential nominee instead of the far more relevant debate about the role of faith in contemporary society- which would include Obama’s questionable background/faith and Hillary’s utter lack of faith?

There were slaves in Utah, but very few. Like most Southwestern states, there really wasn’t the economic need for hundreds of people farming the crops. The Mormon church had no official doctrine for or against slaveholding, and leaders were ambivalent. In 1836 Joseph Smith wrote that masters should treat slaves humanely and that slaves owed their owners obedience. During his presidential campaign in 1844, however, he came out for abolition. Brigham Young tacitly supported slaveholding, declaring that although Utah was not suited for slavery the practice was ordained by God. In 1851 Apostle Orson Hyde said the church would not interfere in relations between master and slave

Speaking as a member of a religious community, I can honestly say that very few people’s religious beliefs will stand up to a whole lot of rational and scientific scrutiny (in fact, none that I know of, including my own). Moreover, most religions have a few beliefs that seem rather politically incorrect. That said, each American is expected to accept as a matter of doctrine that, just as his virtuous, correct and God-given beliefs are tolerated by society, so must his neighbor’s depraved, errant and unholy beliefs be tolerated in equal measure, provided they do not infringe on the rights of others.
OK, Mitt’s a Mormon, and I’m not. I see no reason to believe he’d use the White House to force America to become a Mormon country, any more than Kennedy tried to make it Catholic, Bush tried to make it Protestant, or Hillary would try to make it Satanist.
Can we just drop the religious issue?

That’s not even close to what I posted. Why are you attacking me personally instead of commenting on the substance of the post. Gotta think (by the way this came up) you actually are in favor of gunning down Christians.
Why do you hate Christians MB4? Christians love you because that is what Christ commanded. Christians may disagree with all your decisions and your defense of the criminals that gunned down human beings today but they will still love you. In that vein, I love you as a human being but your defense of the criminals that killed people today and the way this forum has a decidedly anti-Christian bent is inexcusable. Please show me a thread on this site where Evangelical Christians are shown in a positive light.

What everyone here has completely missed (and quite possibly didn’t know) is the real horror about O’Donnells marriage. Not his horror, mine….
I just wiki’d him and he’s married to Kathryn Harrold, a beautiful actress I’ve long admired. (she played Steve McQeens wife in his last movie “The Hunter”) She’s gorgeous and talented, and tragically, no longer worthy of my lustful gaze and infatuation….she has terrible taste in men.
Damn, I hate it when that happens!

You obviously have not been around here very long. This site used to feature a guest commenter who had her own site, called Real Verse, that was very much evangelical. I miss that site, and it’s host. Wish I knew what happened to both. As to this rant, I first found the link to it tonight from here,http://dummiefunnies.blogspot.com/ , after I had a good laugh, I came here and found it again at the top of the page. However, here, I have found some rather disturbing comments. What the hell is wrong with some of you people? Intolerance does seem to still be a problum with us on the right I see. I am not going to point out any names, but sheesh, lets get over this damn ” My religion, or lack there of is better than yours” BS.

“Scary” Larry O’Donnell is too much of a coward to say anything like this about Mohammed.
JimC on December 9, 2007 at 11:21 PM
I am an atheist. I think all religions are silly. I am more interested in current results and actions than I am in dogma or the habits of their founders.

Great fun, Allah. One of my favorite “O’Donnell meltdowns” was the John O’Neil confrontation of 2004.

Mighty cool.

I can’t really disagree with much of what he said though.
packsoldier on December 10, 2007 at 12:11 AM
Bryan is Christian and has posted many times from a positive Christian point of view and on topics of Christian interest with a positive spin.
You might have a skewed perspective because recently there have been quite a few atheism-related posts that got the crowd going. Plus, many commenters (including me) are really upset with the so-called “Christian Right” for choosing Huckabee despite his fiscal liberalism and poor record. They are presumably choosing him just because he’s a former Baptist minister, not because he’s conservative in any other way. That has generated some rancor and animosity toward hard-core evangelicals who are driving Huckabee’s rise in the polls. Even Christian HA commenters (like myself) are upset at this contingent of religious Huckabee voters. That may be giving you the impression that the site is anti-Christian in general, but it’s simply not true. I feel that even Allahpundit, who is atheist, is very respectful of his Christian readers’ opinions as a general rule. Bryan and Michelle always are. I, for one, value the diversity of conservatives and conservatism I find here. It’s a highly-educated and thoughtful crowd for the most part.

Where did MB4 defend such a thing?

It’s up in the headlines. I don’t think we know that much yet though.
bnelson44 on December 10, 2007 at 12:26 AM
I disagree with finding fault with Mitt’s ancestors. That isn’t Mitts fault, he has no control over his ancestors. The LDS Church was segregationist while Mitt was an adult. Mitt should address that especially if he is going to make a speech about embracing the tenants of his faith. But you don’t need to blow a gasket over it. Then again, on that show, I don’t know how else you get heard over the other pundits.
People have been fawning over Mitts speech and I think for some people that is very frustrating, especially if you analyse the speech. That might have cause O’Donnell to lose it. Mitt really didn’t say much in the speech except boilerplate that many conservatives could have said. He also said some things that simply were not true, e.g., religion needs freedom (it doesn’t). But no speech is perfect. JFK’s faith speech was full of holes. JFK though was a nominal Catholic and everyone knew it. JFK also gave the speech in front of hostile clergy (Mitt chose a packed audience of his supporters). JFK then took questions, Mitt did not.
bnelson44 on December 10, 2007 at 12:33 AM
That’s an excellent question.
aunursa on December 10, 2007 at 12:42 AM
I still maintain that having only weekly, instead of daily, electro-shock treatments is what caused O’Donnell to lose it. Next time I see Dr. Freud I will ask him, but I am sure that he would concur.
MB4 on December 10, 2007 at 12:51 AM
Ronald Reagan truly admired the Latter-day Saints. His administration included more members of the Church than any other American president, ever. Three of us, David Fischer, Gregory Newell and I, served on his personal White House staff. Richard Wirthlin was his chief strategist. Ted Bell served as Secretary of Education, Angela Buchanan was Treasurer, Rex Lee was Solicitor General. His White House included Roger Porter, Brent Scowcroft, Richard Beal, Blake Parish, Jon Huntsman Jr., Dodie Borup and Rocky Kuonen, and there were many other Latter-day Saints throughout his Administration. President Thomas S. Monson served on a Presidential Commission on Volunteerism. Others were ambassadors. LDS senators and representatives were held in special regard, and the Tabernacle Choir was his special inaugural guest.”

There are currently five LDS members, Bennet (R-UT), Crapo (R-ID), Hatch (R-UT), Reid (D-NV), and Smith (R-OR) serving in the U.S. Senate.
Don’t anyone tell O’Donnell this though or he will surely need to be hospitalized and may never be able to leave the hospital again.

clghitis on December 10, 2007 at 1:03 AM
I honestly don’t know how a Mormon could be a Democrat (Harry Reid). Conservatism matches up with LDS beliefs and behavior much better than liberalism does. Mormons tend to be incredibly moral and upstanding people, and very conservative in their worldview. Perhaps Reid is a lapsed Mormon? Or maybe he’s just a hypocrite.

The last time I remember seeing Larry O’Donnell on television was when he was reduced to endlessly whining “LIER!!!” (sic) at John O’Neill in 2004.
Did McLaughlin lose a bet or something? Who voluntarily gives air time to this rage-weasel?

My gosh they let Larry back on the tube.
I thought he was banned from any Politico shows after the swift boat fiasco where he ranted “creepy lier” over and over again talking over John O’Neill.(I thought GE banned him from their network after that performance)
He used that same psyhco voice in this discussion and I was waiting for his head to spin just like Linda Blair.
I think he stopped using his meds.

It isn’t bias or bigotry to think Mormonism is, indeed, ridiculous. To believe it, no thread of rationality can be left in one’s mind. That’s always been Romney’s problem in seeking the nomination. Otherwise, he’d make a great president, but this weakens him as an electoral winner.
