In addition to all our regular Hot Air gear and merchandise, we’re offering Christmas shoppers a new item: limited edition Mohammed Teddy Bears. Each cuddly Mo Bear costs $18.50, which includes shipping and handling. (Note: We can only accept domestic orders inside the U.S.)
They’d be great to pair up with an “I Will Not Submit” tee or bumper sticker. Treat yourselves.
Or send one to your favorite local CAIR official.

This isn’t the same as “I will not submit.” This is needlessly inflammatory. (That British teacher in Sudan was a twit, who got the education she needed and which most of the rest of us have already received. Just what the hell was she doing there anyway, the liberal moron.)Why not a cute stuffed pig with the same shirt?

“Christmas shoppers”? Not inoffensive, non-denominational “holiday shoppers”?
Shame on you, Michelle! ;-)

that is freakin’ sweet.
madmonkphotog on December 9, 2007 at 7:45 AM
Difference is, no one is going to slit throats and blow stuff up over “Hanukah Hams.”
You seem to be blaming the British teacher for the perpetual outrage of third world Muslims. I tell them to choke on it.
Valiant on December 9, 2007 at 7:57 AM
Are “Mohammed Sucks” Bear’s available also?
ajmontana on December 9, 2007 at 7:58 AM
If I buy a Mo bear for $18.50 and sell it for $26 will I make a Prophet?
Bicyea on December 9, 2007 at 8:00 AM
When this WOT is all over, there will still be billions of muslims who we must co-exist with.
I blame the British teacher for being a lefty-progressive-do-gooder schmuck. You, on the other hand, tell them to choke on it, not from Khartoum, but from your home, as she should have done.
JiangxiDad on December 9, 2007 at 8:04 AM
Zing! lol.
Dash on December 9, 2007 at 8:12 AM
JiangxiDad, you fail to remember that the bear was named by the students in the class, and named AFTER one if those students.
If the sandfleas want to throw such a hissy fit, they shouldn’t be naming EACH OTHER after their religious leader.
fusionaddict on December 9, 2007 at 8:12 AM
There is no such entity as the War in Terror°. Terror is a tactic. The war is against radical Islam. If the billions of moderate Muslims want to co-exist with us, where is their outrage at the tactics used in the name of Allah? I thought we rehashed all this on these boards a million times and I know you were here for most of it.
Valiant on December 9, 2007 at 8:15 AM
Red herring. They’re still gonna be here. Their outrage at Islamic terror is missing. I don’t speak for them.
I’d be happier with a larger assortment. I’d like the set:
PIG MO
HANUKAH HAM
Syphilitic Shiva
Glory HOle Jesus.
JiangxiDad on December 9, 2007 at 8:29 AM
JiangxiDad, I believe that you mean well, but appeasement is no solution. A sense of humor, though, is a balm for the soul.
The “cute stuffed-pig” idea is something to consider, though.
Hmmmm.

OK. I’m done. Go buy the damn thing if you want.

Would you buy a sexy/funny Birthday card for a close friend or co-worker? More likely than Grandma.
Just sayin’. Context.

Can you include the address of the Sudanese Embassy in the packages as well? Just in case some people would want to forward them to the Sudanese Embassy….

Griz on December 9, 2007 at 10:34 AM
Will try. Many people in Muslim nations are so backward and twisted in their views because of their fundamentalist religious beliefs, that reasonable people should avoid traveling to their sh*thole countries and interacting with them there. If white western do-gooders want to go over there to “help”, be my guest. Send the Hollywood types first. I have no sympathy for people who travel to those places that don’t have to, and even less for people who choose to live there and then want to call the cavalry for rescue.

Hard to get reliable #’s. 1.5 -2 billion now, or soon. Even if 1 billion, point still valid. Am I a muslim? Maybe.
Bigotry? To mention that largely white progressive liberal GUILTY Europeans and Americans are always trying to help the so-called oppressed and victimized of the world. Hardly a knock at whites, a knock at as*holes. To make you happy, will add anyone of any race who does the same.
Mir CAT can shove his/her comment. Who are you, its owner?
I am not your guest. If they can’t stand me, they’ll cut me off.

The ‘religion of perpetual outrage’ should be grateful they’re at a point in history where our tentative opening shots are going to be teddy bears named Mohammad, burning Korans and insulting internet videos.
Ultimately, when someone somewhere screams out “We’ve had enough!” and the rest of the world joins in echoing “You know what, you’re right!”, Muslims will see Mohammad teddy bears as the insignificant, quirky good old days.
Canadian Infidel on December 9, 2007 at 11:32 AM
Cute Teddy Bear by the way. I wish I could get it here in Canada. Nice job!
I always thought laminated bacon bookmarks for Korans would be good sellers.
Canadian Infidel on December 9, 2007 at 11:33 AM
Wow, this thread has gotten nasty. Relax everyone. It’s Sunday. Michelle is selling teddy bears with a Mohammad tee shirt on. Do you like the concept or not? I happen to think selling this item is an appropriate expression of FREEDOM.

Bwahaha good idea. Or maybe some toilet paper decorated with Mo’s face? Childish, I know, but yet so … *cleansing*!
Tony737 on December 9, 2007 at 11:39 AM
I really like this Teddy Bear.
I don’t think anyone anywhere is gonna get their knickers in a knot over it.
Oldnuke on December 9, 2007 at 11:43 AM
Man. I understand what you are saying. And I will chill. But, I am having some difficulty separating this from the dung Madonna “art”, or the Folsom St. mural depicting Christian symbolism mixed with gay SM crap. I objected to both of those and contacted the people involved to make my objections known, but they could argue that they think it’s an appropriate expression of freedom. I am no Islamophile– frankly, far from it.
JiangxiDad on December 9, 2007 at 11:44 AM
So, how about these do-gooders?
It seems that British teacher likely went with the intent of helping to break down some of those twisted, backward, fundamentalist views.
Pablo on December 9, 2007 at 11:47 AM
Not happy with use of US troops if primary purpose is nation building.
My point exactly. A dumb ass do-gooder.

Pablo on December 9, 2007 at 11:55 AM
This is poking fun at a specific bit of ridiculous outrage.
Pablo on December 9, 2007 at 12:03 PM
I understand your point, but try to look at it in context. The things you mentioned were done purely to show contempt for religion and get attention. Couch it in any catchy little buzz words you want they were over the top and meant to be controversial. The teddy bear here is just a toy and an expression of the first amendment. It’s meant as a statement that we have this right! It would only be offensive to someone who’s going to be offended no matter what. Overall I think it’s a mild statement on how ridiculous the whole situation really was. And the bear’s cute.
I also agree with your analysis of the teacher, “A dumb ass do-gooder.”
Oldnuke on December 9, 2007 at 12:06 PM
LOL, CAIR Bear!
infidel4life on December 9, 2007 at 12:09 PM
…which will be impossible as long as teddy bears whip them into a violent frenzy. Think of a Mohammed bear as a means of conditioning their delicate sensibilities so that someday it may just be possible to co-exist in peace with the kazillions of Muslim.
FloatingRock on December 9, 2007 at 12:10 PM
Well, most of the time I agree with Jiangxi Dad’s posts, so am trying to get my head around both sides of this.
I do think the bear is cute, and more importantly, makes the statement: death threats in response to a perceived – and not even actual – insult are totally unacceptable and worthy of ridicule and protest. And this is a good message.
However. Imagine if, in response to Christians’ objections to this, the ACLU started offering on its website a little holiday toy “snow shaker” filled with a crucifix, “snow,” and yellow liquid instead of clear.
I understand that Christians didn’t call for Serrano Andres’ death (although the chocolate naked Jesus maker DID get some death threats). But what would we Christians be saying about that holiday toy for sale? And what would we like Muslims to be saying about it?

FloatingRock on December 9, 2007 at 12:17 PM
LOL I just can’t get over how adorable the little bear looks.
If CAIR weren’t shills for a bunch of violent backwards thugs this would totally help the “Islam is Peace” rhetoric. WHo the hell can argue with a Teddy Bear?
BKennedy on December 9, 2007 at 12:19 PM
This is just a matter of perspective. I prefer to look at it this way. When this WOT is over there will still be billions of Christians and others that the Muslims must co-exist with.
Interesting pie chart here.
There are almost as many non religious persons in the world as there are Muslims. The chart is using 2005 data so the numbers would be different now.
Oldnuke on December 9, 2007 at 12:21 PM
My thought exactly, it seems quite a bit out of character for JiangxiDad. Most of the time I like his posts as they are usually thoughtful and thought provoking, only today they are more along the lines of just provoking people, and not in a contructive or positive manner.
Liberty or Death on December 9, 2007 at 12:21 PM
They’d be saying that it’s in poor taste and in keeping with the ACLU’s hatred of Christianity. What they wouldn’t be saying is that those responsible should be tried and/or executed.
Pablo on December 9, 2007 at 12:22 PM

The only humor in this is derived it’s design to be offensive. That alone is sufficient to mark it’s worth.
Spirit of 1776 on December 9, 2007 at 12:23 PM
er, derived from it’s…
Spirit of 1776 on December 9, 2007 at 12:24 PM
There would be a round of talk show tours, some religious folks would voice their disgust and outrage, a few whackos would make violent threats and then it would fade into obscurity it’s fifteen minutes elapsed. Oh! and they’d sell about 25 of the stupid things and then be stuck with the other nine thousand seventy five that they’d ordered up.
Oldnuke on December 9, 2007 at 12:26 PM
Ok, Ok sorry. Maybe I better go back to bed.
Apologies for offending anyone. Seriously.
JiangxiDad on December 9, 2007 at 12:27 PM
I don’t think you’ve offended anyone. It’s just that your response has been a little out of character. I’ve actually enjoyed it. This obviously hit a nerve with you. That’s Ok it makes the rest of us think. I know I’m certainly looking at it in a different light. Didn’t change my mind though.
Oldnuke on December 9, 2007 at 12:29 PM
Oh, and in my opinion JiangxiDad was over the line with MirCat and IMHO an apology would be in order.
Liberty or Death on December 9, 2007 at 12:30 PM
That’d be a pretty crappy snow shaker to start, the blasphemy would just be an extra reason not to buy it.
Seriously, we’re talking about a freaking teddy bear. Many Muslims name their children Mohammad after the prophet and then take photos of them, and no one tries to burn them at the stake over it.
I certainly won’t be calling foe somebody’s death if they make a Jesus teddy bear with a little halo. Devil horns might make me annoyed though.
BKennedy on December 9, 2007 at 12:30 PM

Oldnuke on December 9, 2007 at 12:34 PM
LOL!
Seriously, I understand what you guys are saying and it’s all true. Guess I’m just thinking of those “peaceful Muslims” being offended, but they sure do seem to be in a minority though, look how many Muslims came out to defend the teacher. :(
inviolet on December 9, 2007 at 12:34 PM
Here’s the difference. Mohammed was a thief, murderer, torturer, rapist and pedophile. The religion he founded is oppressive, intolerant and violent. It seeks world domination. We should criticize it, make fun of its excesses, and do everything in our power to point out to Muslims the error of their ways. The one thing we should not do is pretend that Islam is deserving of our respect in the way that civilized religions are.
If and when Muslims transform their religion into something decent, we can show them some respect. I, for one, would very much like to see Muslims freed from the oppression of Islam.

How people can compare filth with a cute little teddy bear is beyond me. I’m not religious but I find feces offensive, teddy bears aren’t. Objectivity is a virtue for all people of all races and religions, or it should be at least.

You obviously don’t understand the subtle nuance and character of great art. Not to mention the brilliance of the artists. You’re just, just an insensitive barbarian who doesn’t understand crap. :-)
Oldnuke on December 9, 2007 at 1:00 PM
Sorry I wasn’t more clear (and I don’t “get” their point of view either really) but apparently the Muslim sensibility, right or wrong, is that naming their revered prophet after a “filthy animal” (or a “silly toy” maybe, but witness the views on even touching or being near pigs or dogs) is wayyyy different than naming a valued child this way, hence the difference in reaction to naming a child Mohammed vs. a toy bear.
Not disagreeing w/ you; but some other poster w/ Muslims in their family, whose name escapes me, explained this on some other thread a few weeks ago.
inviolet on December 9, 2007 at 1:02 PM
Actually it’s not funny. It’s more than that. It’s defiance in the face of fanatical intolerance and bigotry. If these pigs had their way all Jews would be dead and all Christians would be slaves. That’s why I proudly bought one for my wife. Somebody has to stand up even in small ways like this.
