Video: McCain kisses votes of Yankee fans bye-bye

posted at 4:07 pm on December 8, 2007 by Allahpundit

No matter. They’re all already committed to Rudy anyway. Besides, you don’t really want an element as unsavory as that voting for you, Mac. If they’re going to switch, let ‘em switch to Ron Paul, where they belong.

An obvious ploy here to earn him a few more votes in New Hampshire, where he’s alive but not exactly kicking. Exit question: Has a famous athlete’s endorsement ever made a difference in a political race? If MJ couldn’t help Bill Bradley

Blowback

Hmm…Michael Vick’s endorsement helped get me elected dogcatcher!

But that wasn’t a federal race.

McCain is running?

:X

Ortzinator on December 8, 2007 at 4:38 PM

The surge is working, and anti-war generals now lining up in support of the surge, I don’t know what affect this will have on McCain.

bnelson44 on December 8, 2007 at 4:43 PM

I won’t be voting for McCain, but as a Yankee fan, I actually do respect Curt Schilling. He’s a stand-up guy.

Even after the horror of 2004–Allahpundit is still grinning over that–I had to give the guy props when he slipped in that endorsement for Bush while being interviewed on GMA.

Allahpundit just endorsed Rudy! The Universe as we know it is collapsing!

BKennedy on December 8, 2007 at 5:54 PM

Allahpundit just endorsed Rudy!

I dearly hope you’re not suggesting I’m a Yankee fan. That’s a banworthy offense.

Allahpundit on December 8, 2007 at 5:57 PM

The Yankee fans should all be liberals – they have strong sense of entitlement.

Hilts on December 8, 2007 at 5:59 PM

McCain-Feingold. Game over.

DavidM on December 8, 2007 at 5:59 PM

Also McCain and his Andrew Sullivanesque obsession over ‘torture’ and his declared intention to close down Gitmo in order to please the Eurotrash as well as his Shamnesty (along with his two girl friends Trent Lott and Miss Lindsey Graham). No I would not support him in the primary but would vote for him in the election against Hillary.

The Yankee fans should all be liberals conservatives- they have strong sense of entitlement excellence.

Fixed it for ya

Yeah, I heard about that.

Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin’s support got me elected to rattlesnake wrangler in Arizona, and equestriant-horsemen, equestrian genius Michael Matz’ endorsement helped get me elected to the position of Wild Mustang Management director. Without their endorsement, I doubt I would be where I am today, full of snake bites, horse bites, and hoof prints all over my body.

But hey, I get to work outdoors, and I do love wildlife, including snakes, and I do love horses, have ever since I was a small child.

Jack M.,

I loved your comment.

As soon as I read it, I laughed.

Very funny, and clever!

I love John McCain. I became a Republican (as opposed to an Independen… not one of those)to vote for McCain in our primary back in 2000.

I respect John McCain. He kept faith with his fellow prisoners when the North Vietnamese would have given him early release if he only recorded one lousy interview…

As of now I can not support him for Prez. McCain-Feingold was bad enough (and it was BAD of W to sign that bill), but the shamnesty crapola was over the top.

However, as a congenital Red Sox fan I should probably re-evaluate my position after St. Curt’s endorsement… :)

Since my entire understanding of pop culture comes from HotAir (seriously), I don’t understand this whole thing. I get the sport’s angle, but who is this guy and why do hoi pollio care about his political ideas?

thuja on December 8, 2007 at 9:36 PM

I’m a Yankees fan and a Schilling fan (how could you not be after the bloody sock thing?). It is possible to like people you root against…

mikeyboss on December 8, 2007 at 9:45 PM

Curt,

What the “heck” are you doing?

“My amnesty bill was not amnesty” McCain?

Dude?

As a Sox fan since the late 70′s, I say the following with all respect, however I also have to include a B-slap.

You of all people should know what it takes to beat an enemy (aka the Yankees), and you are endorsing McCain?

Chuck Norris will beat your endorsement into the ground because he can.

In my world, I would vote for Huck before I vote for McCain.

IMO Shilling needs to be B-slapped.

F15Mech on December 8, 2007 at 9:50 PM

While I do not endorse McCain for president, I do admire a lot about the guy.

Cons; McCain-Feingold, his stance on water-boarding

Pros; A HATE FOR THE YANKEES

If MJ couldn’t help Bill Bradley…

Mrs. Spider-Man endorsed Bill Bradley??

Captain Scarlet on December 9, 2007 at 3:59 AM

So a bunch of TV and movie stars who go to Yankee games to be on TV and people who aren’t from New York who wouldn’t vote for him anyway aren’t going to vote for him.

LtE126 on December 9, 2007 at 8:04 AM

Rudy must hate this guy. He beats the Yankees with the Red Sox and Diamond Backs, and now helps McCain possibly push him into 3rd in NH. Rudy needs to show some strength before Super Tuesday and this doesn’t help.

Do athlete’s endorsements matter? Probably few people admit to ultimately making a choice based on an athlete, but winning a championship is big, winning it for the Red Sox in 2004 is off-the-charts. Part of Mitt’s strength in NH is name recognition–Shilling’s endorsement counters that to some extent.

McCain’s campaign is on life-support, but there will be another media boomlet around him since the media has pronounced Fred lazy, Rudy sleazy, and Mitt Mormon. Huck is in the spotlight now and they will be tired of him in about a week.

I still pray for the day Schilling steps up and takes one of Massachusetts’ senate seats… there have been rumors of an attempt, and I bet he would have a good shot.
