Video: Granny convinces mugger to repent by appealing to faith

We’ve had even more atheist crap than usual on the site lately — and, fair warning, we’re probably looking at another serving in a bit — so I felt like I owed you this one.

It’d be an amazing display of poise for a person of any age, but for a 92-year-old (who’s still driving, please note)? Darn near miraculous.

The force is strong with this one.

I love how that generation just deals with situations and doesn’t whine and complain or play the victim card. And still going strong at 92…go, grandma!

Sir Loin on December 7, 2007 at 7:46 PM

“Now don’t you go spendin’ that on whiskey!”

“No ma’am. This here’s going straight to my meth dealer.”

see-dubya on December 7, 2007 at 7:47 PM

Awesome.

Ha ha, when I was in the Corps I put 666 on all my deuce gear to keep the christians from stealing it.

Amen Grandma.

Actually, I think many people gain poise with great age. She reminds me of my Grandma, who drove ’till about 90, and died 1 month short of her 100th. Very cool story.

SitRep: There may be something to that. Some crooks think a cross is a license to steal.

Spirit of 1776–I lived in Oklahoma in the 1990’s. No illusions about that sort of thing.

Sorry, thought this thread needed some Huck

I understand your point, but I say never underestimate the power of a moment.

Proof that faith is no coincidence.

Ya know this story is sweet and all but if she’d have plugged him with about 6 22mag CCI stinger rnds she’d have cured him of stealin’ and that nasty meth habit.

Jacobi ministered to the man for 10 minutes…”

Definitely not a sentence you’d hear on the news in California.

Granny’s story is all well and good ALLAHPUNDIT, but you need to get on the G.I. Jill story right away and get us some video of Jill, The hottest young lady to ever wear the boots. I’m drooling on myself just thinking about the beauty of your scribe as you describe a true American hero.

She’s got to be a conservative. No offense to granny meant.

In what sense? Rottweilers tear things apart with their teeth. How is that Jesus-like?

aengus on December 7, 2007 at 9:29 PM

Reminds me of the Georgia woman who preached to an escaped rapist/murderer for several hours before he turned himself in a couple of years ago.
God’s word is powerful.

I think there’s a joke out there…a parrot that says ‘Jesus is watching you’ when the robber comes in, he tells the parrot to shut up, and the parrot tells the rottweiller ’sic em, Jesus’.

bikermailman on December 7, 2007 at 9:53 PM

I’m sure Granny’s almost assaulter would have been equally quelled by a rational plea to mutual self-interest.

Sir Loin on December 7, 2007 at 7:46 PM

BINGO.

This generation grew up in hard times and had only friends and family to bail them out, from this they learned how to deal with many bad situations.

Today few people live thru hard time and when they do ‘daddy gov’ bails them out. ? What do they do when daddy gov is broke?

allrsn on December 7, 2007 at 9:57 PM

Awesome story AP! Thanx. It made my day.

This grandma, and the thug, both got a blessing! That’s how God works. Win win.

Okay but the internal logic of this joke does not apply in this instance. There was no ’sic em, Jesus’ moment.

I would like to add to my last post. I believe this is still on topic.

Today we do everything possible to protect our kids from everything, from bateria to merry go rounds to bullies.

Its like we lock them in a padded steril cell. Where do we expect them to learn about reality.

The elder people here will remember being exposed to bateria and virus, we would get sick and our immune systems would strengthen. We remember the bullies and learned to deal with them, each in our own way. We ran the merry go round at break neck speed, fell off and somtimes got hurt.

We learned to cope, how do our kids learn today when they are not allowed to experience??

allrsn on December 7, 2007 at 10:07 PM

Haha, that was from Nashville, wasn’t it? I thought that newswoman looked familiar.

Praise be to Darwin, am I right?

Seriously though, that was awesome… and her “don’t spend it on whiskey” comment was hilarious. That’s such an old person thing to say. If it were you or me we’d say don’t spend it on crack or something… But “whiskey” is the evil of her day.

RightWinged on December 7, 2007 at 10:30 PM

Thanks for the nice post. And a nice thread. WOW it is nice to have the occasional thread with no inter/intra/non/denominational quarreling.

“Jacobi ministered to the man for 10 minutes…”

Caught that too. Not “tried to talk him out of it for 10 minutes” or some such.

This lady’s so sweet and gentle, yet brave and determined, and doesn’t fear death in the least. What an example to everyone around her.

I know this will sound like a non sequitor but the way to reduce crime is to teach young people that there is a higher power in this world and that they need to think about that when they are living there lives. I would love to see a regression analysis of crime rates and the banning of prayer in public schools.

My version is that she says “Jesus is always with me” and then pulls out her .357 and says, “Say hello to Jesus.”

Longhorn Six on December 8, 2007 at 10:49 AM

Bill C,

I see that my sarcasm was a bit too subtle.

deesine on December 8, 2007 at 12:37 PM

Glad to see Grannie was not hurt, but if he were truly repentant Bobbie would have refused her ten dollars and turned himself into the police.

My ten bucks says he’s still on the prowl.

T J Green on December 8, 2007 at 12:45 PM

Its amazing how powerful a little faith can be. Sadly, its something few will ever truly understand.

That story just made my week.

“Jesus is in this car.”

I know you non-believers think this is just a cute story, but it really is a story of faith and forgiveness.

I also realize that sometimes people don’t listen to Jesus and a 45 under the seat is also a good backup…;-)
