Do I sound like a petulant child? Well, I feel like one.

Maybe not petulant. Maybe trapped in an insane asylum, where the same song just plays over and over, but with different singers in the same 8′ by 8′ padded space. Like waterboarding, only holier. Than thou.

Probably because after defending Huckabee’s religious credentials, there’s just not much left to talk about — and what there is won’t help him with Republicans and political conservatives. Maybe social conservatives who’ve been blasting Giuliani as a liberal realize they’re in no position to tout Huckabee’s record in the same venue. I wouldn’t be surprised if his supporters here are just keeping their heads down.

Yes. Guiliani is a fiscal conservative and strong on immigration. Oh? What? He isn’t? But he’s so cool . . .

No, he’s not cool either, for the opposite reason as Huck, IMO. Basically what is happening is that the conservative coalition that Reagan built is splintering off into its divergent groups that have little hope of accomplishing anything on their own. Together the Republican Party stands; separate it falls.

The problem is that I’m not so sure that the Rudy supporters and the Huck supporters are going to overcome their political-greed and back a candidate that has a broader appeal to the base, like Fred or Mitt. The Rudy supporters may not like Fred or Mitt as much as Rudy, but they probably like them better than Huck. The Huck supporters may not like Fred or Mitt as much as Huck, but they’re better than Rudy.

Will they compromise? If so, it better start happening soon because it’s almost too late.

I am not a one-issue voter. I’d much rather vote McCain, but he was thrown under the same bus, by people like you, years ago.

So THAT’s what happened to McCain. I was wondering where he’d gotten off to. The last time I saw him he was crawling around under a bus looking for a peso he’d dropped…. So you’re saying the bus ran over him? You’re saying that somehow it was our fault?

But Huck is earning my respect too. His record is a series of pluses and minuses but the way he calmly thinks on his feet and gives reasoned, polite and pointed responses to ‘gotcha questions’ is impressive. This dude is cool a a cuke. That, I respect.

I’m not looking for a perfect candidate. There is no such thing. However, I am looking for one that does not have Huckabee’s record on taxes, illegal immigration, and nanny-statish thinking.

Wellsir, I suspect a big part of that is because that is how the mainstream media sees the red states, aka Jesusland. So if Joe Editor tells Jane Reporter to cover the GOP primary, that’s what she’s going to expect to see.

This time around, both Huckabee and Romney (but mostly Huckabee) are servin’ it up raw. So it’s been self-perpetuating.

Jane Reporter: “Governor Huckabee, is it true that you’re one of those Bible-thumping evangelical Jesus freaks?”

Huck: “Why, yes, Jane, that’s right. I am.”

Pedestrian, presidents don’t make budgets, heck, they don’t even manage the budget making process on the admin end. Advisers do all that. What counts is having good principles, defining good policies built on good reasoning, and hiring the right people to follow through on them.
