Too hot for NBC: Freedom’s Watch thanks the troops

The network that employs Keith Olbermann feared it was too political.
NBC said it declined to air the ad because it refers to the group’s Web site, which the network said was too political, not because of the ad’s message…
Alan Wurtzel, NBC’s head of standards and practices, said the network decided not to run the Freedom’s Watch ad because the group insisted that the spot contain the URL address of its Web site.
The Freedom’s Watch Web home page contains links for visitors to demonstrate their support for the troops. It also contains a welcoming message that states: “For too long, conservatives have lacked a permanent political presence to do battle with the radical special interests groups and their left-wing allies in government.”
“We have a policy that prohibits acceptance of advertising that deals with issues of public controversy,” Wurtzel said. “This particular ad, in and of itself, is fine. It thanks the troops for their action overseas. We asked them to eliminate a URL address where a person is asked to contact elected officials and told not to cut and run on the war on terror.”
FW ran a print ad the other day to the same effect, and with the same URL, in … the New York Times.
Dear NBC,
If MoveOn.org asks you to run an ad that does no more than thank the troops (giggle) and list its URL, we won’t object.
Signed,
Every conservative in the world

Yes, MSNBC is really showing their stripes. Thanking the troops is too political, eh?

HA! Snort!
And right now my cats are cleaning up the house, doing my Christmas shopping, and emptying their own litter box.
Freakin’ NBC. I tried pointing out the pitiful propaganda of their “Green Week” to my fiance, but she didn’t get how pointless it all was until I told her about dimming the studio lights during the football game. I’m still trying to explain the contradictions of CFBs…
What was this post about, again?
Oh, yeah, thanking the troops.
Thank you all!

Great commercials, NBC should be ashamed! Of course I realize they’re not, they have no shame.
FloatingRock on December 7, 2007 at 2:20 PM
I don’t think these people are proud to be American. Their only good property is CNBC, and it is getting better globally than domestically.
NBC better watch out with their blatant bias because Fox Business has had some pretty high profile interviews in a small span of time. NBC might want to consider moving to say Saudi Arabia where the government has their best interest (Bush hating) at heart.

Another good ad for next year. They keep on giving, and we’re in the Google and video age.

Here is what I do not understand. GE owns NBC. GE is a huge military contractor. I would think that supporting the military, would be in GE’s interest. GE needs to take NBC to the woodshed for some behavior modification.
Vanquisher on December 7, 2007 at 2:32 PM
Hmmm.
I wonder if they will apply this same standard to campaign ads?
hillbillyjim on December 7, 2007 at 2:35 PM
Ya know, while NBC once again shows their miserably biased peacock feathers in all their preening glory and should be mercilessly shunned for it…the voice-over the ads use is a guy who has done some of the most hateful, inflammatory, politics-of-personal-destruction-for-REAL ads I’ve ever seen in my life, all in the name of ‘conservative/family’ values. I’m sure he’s a lovely person, but I despise the sound of his voice.
tree hugging sister on December 7, 2007 at 2:37 PM
Also wondering if they aired any of the non-controversial Michael J. Fox stem-cell messages.
Or did they consider them to be Public Service Announcements?

I’m seriously deleting NBC and MSNBC from my televisions. It will be painful with football and such but I just can’t take it anymore.
Griz on December 7, 2007 at 2:45 PM
The liberal bias at NBC and the rest of the alphabet gang was a major factor in my decision to kick the TV habit back in 1987. So how about it NBC? How many hours of advertising have I missed in the last 20 years?
Jose Chupacabra on December 7, 2007 at 2:46 PM
Free Speech? You can’t buy it at NBC, the Anti-Heroes Network. “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World.” Ugh!
Bacchus on December 7, 2007 at 2:46 PM
The ad is fine, we just don’t want to show it = We support the troops, we just don’t want to fund them.
The MSM despise this country. Pure and simple. I only hope that they are silenced, by the Socialism that they seek.

NBC won’t air something because it’s too political?
To take them seriously requires a “willing suspension of disbelief,”
fogw on December 7, 2007 at 2:50 PM
I’m guessing they’ve probably broadcast ads with URLs from “The Debate Is Over And We Have To Spend Trillions On Global Warming” folks.

The only thing I watch on nbc is football…after obejerk is off…never at halftime…can’t remember the last time I watched an nbc show…
areseaoh on December 7, 2007 at 2:57 PM
Allah, Did the add to run on ABC or CBS?
KBird on December 7, 2007 at 3:06 PM
Great question. If yes, then NBC is indicted and convicted. If no, then the same for ABC and CBS.
OhEssYouCowboys on December 7, 2007 at 3:10 PM
Absolutely amazing. The numbskullery of this refusal has actually so rocked my brain that I can’t come up with a snarky remark!
Nethicus on December 7, 2007 at 3:13 PM
Wow, banning necessary “Thank You” messages AND firing people right before Christmas.
Nice, NBC (aka, NoBody Cares). Nice.
madmonkphotog on December 7, 2007 at 3:16 PM
Let me show NBC how it is done. Here is a posting from a diarist over at the Daily Kos who sends a thank you to the Army. See even though we don’t agree with the progressives on most issues when you say thanks it needs to recognized.
LakeRuins on December 7, 2007 at 3:19 PM
NBC has really gone in the tank the past few years. How pathetic. They really should be ashamed.
CP on December 7, 2007 at 3:24 PM
Talk about deep pockets.
Don’t think NBC is a viable moneymaking business without the deep pockets of GE, which lib-boomer Jeff Immelt is slowly destroying with the negative goodwill from NBC/MSNBC. This rotting pillar of the leftist foundation will fall too, along with other lib media co’s in the not too distant future.
JiangxiDad on December 7, 2007 at 3:27 PM
URL my furry butt!
Partisan hacks. Plain and simple.
This joke of a network is hemoraging money and they’re playing ’spit on the troops.’ Dumb @asses.
Dump your stock, folks, and refuse to watch this network. Problem solved.

True, but with Iowa and NH coming soon, I’m sure that they will have no problem with

Especially if Olber-douche gets more time to interview Slick Willy.

So over the next year we won’t be seeing on NBC stations any advertising advocating for or against the presidential candidates??!!??
Mallard T. Drake on December 7, 2007 at 4:17 PM
Go over to Freedom Watch’s web sight.
Sign the petition to NBC and while your at it send a “card”
“Thanks” to the Guys and Gals. What you do
is very appreciated.
PaKeystoner on December 7, 2007 at 4:20 PM
…Or any more ads for Al Gore movies or NBC global warming specials?
BacaDog on December 7, 2007 at 4:22 PM
You would think they would be desperate for advertisers?
Supporting troop moral at Christmas is too political?
Hening on December 7, 2007 at 4:24 PM
I guess thanking the troops is just too political for MSNBC. The same MSNBC that is paying a man millions of dollars to say such things as Republicans are terrorists and President Bush is a Nazi.

I would quit watching NBC, but I would have to start first. Oh yeah, I do watch Sunday Night Football, but not the pre-game or halftime. Amazing to see a national network dis-ing the troops. Is this how far we’ve come in 60 years? Answer. Yes.
Ordinary1 on December 7, 2007 at 11:06 PM
Wow NBC!!! Just when I think you can’t give me anymore reasons to keep me from watching you, you surprise me with yet another reason not to watch you. I was just starting to forget you are the network that employs Keith Olbermann and your religion was that of “green is universal” (the global warming cult) that you worship at the altar, when you gave me something else disgusting to digest. Thanks!!!
