The Narnia series gets its second installment, Prince Caspian, next May. This trailer suggests that if anything, the second episode is going to be better than the first.

Excited by this, But I must add that the trailer for Speed Racer is going to be on Entertainment Tonight tonight, and it looks like it’s going to be, as AP would say, freaky-deaky.

I really loved these books when I was a kid. I hope this one is as good as the last was.
Defense Guy on December 6, 2007 at 1:51 PM
If it’s half as good as the first, it will be an excellent film. A must-see. If you’re one of the people who (like me) constantly complains about the garbage Hollywood churns out, go out and support this movie.
packsoldier on December 6, 2007 at 1:52 PM
The trailer…for quicktime purists.
Looks darker than the last one, which makes sense given the tone of the book.
Slublog on December 6, 2007 at 1:54 PM
May 16? So cruel, to leave the meat hanging there and know you can’t eat for 5 months.
VolMagic on December 6, 2007 at 1:54 PM
I only wish it were going head to head against the Compass Crapola.
bbz123 on December 6, 2007 at 1:56 PM
looks fantastic
jediwebdude on December 6, 2007 at 1:58 PM
I can’t tell you how many times I read these books as a kid; I still periodically pick then up and re-read. So many good message, descriptions, sentiments. Some of the best books ever written. Of course the Lord of the Rings is in there too.
When the first movie was being released I read an article that they were going to change things in “The Horse and His Boy” because it reflected an obvious racist streak in the world at the time, against Arabs. (!!!) Anyone else hear anything similar? Would be a shame if they butchered the story.
linlithgow on December 6, 2007 at 2:04 PM
Thankfully, I’ll be out of Basic Training by then and will be able to see it on time. How exciting!
df4jc on December 6, 2007 at 2:04 PM
My fourth grade teacher introduced me to Narnia. Thank you Mrs. Bell. These books opened a library to me. This may be the first film I see in a Theatre since The Matrix.

Blasphemy…Heresy…all that stuff…
now I feel like I’m starting to fit in around here.

Anyone who doesn’t think this movie is simply magnificent is not to be trusted as a reviewer.
see-dubya on December 6, 2007 at 2:11 PM
I so want to see this… I loved the first one, and I’ve loved the Narnia books for a long time.
This whole series has a potential to be very good. Much better than the Golden compass junk
Vanceone on December 6, 2007 at 2:17 PM
Heh!

Did anybody catch the latest SNN podcast?
According to Sayet, a group of 10 or so Hollywood conservatives has grown to about 3,000, including some huge big name surprises. Apparently they are planning a big “outing” next spring. Worth a listen!
Plus, Meryl Yourish, a HA commenter, does another wonderful segment in her signature one-of-a-kind style.
RushBaby on December 6, 2007 at 2:25 PM
My wife is a huge fan of the books–I’ve tried to read them but couldn’t get into them. Maybe I’ll try again. I thought the movie was pretty good–the wife picked out all the inaccuracies (of course!) but still enjoyed it. I look forward to this next installment.
I only wish someone would make a movie series from the Mary Stewart books about Merlin.
robblefarian on December 6, 2007 at 2:27 PM
Robert Redford could take a lesson on what the viewing public want to see at the movies.
I really liked the first Narnia movie, and I’ll pay money to see this sequel.
It’s all about entertainment Bobby, not peaching.
That’s why they call it a movie.
Kini on December 6, 2007 at 2:30 PM
Sweet! This looks great!
pb5000 on December 6, 2007 at 2:38 PM
My favorite books decently translated into movies.
Our family is already chomping at the bit to see this.
Mommynator on December 6, 2007 at 2:42 PM
I loved these books- still do. (= I certainly hope they’re not planning on messing with The Horse and His Boy. That was my favorite of the series. btw, am I the only one who has ever seen the old movies of the books??? (the old ones only include the first three books.) I must say, although the old version of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe couldn’t even approach the new one in quality, special effects, etc. I still liked the story better. It seems to me in the new one they greatly downplayed Aslan, especially as far as the special relationship he had with Lucy in the books– and that’s too bad because that was one of the most important features in the original story.
//am I alone in this opinion??? (I have been told that I’m crazy- keep that in mind;)
mica_ar on December 6, 2007 at 2:52 PM
Dawn Treader was my favorite of the series. We started over reading it as a family last week. Woot!
TexasDan on December 6, 2007 at 2:55 PM
Voyage of the Dawn Treader was my favorite, and I think it
wouldwill be a spectacular story to bring to the big screen.packsoldier on December 6, 2007 at 2:58 PM
Two Words: Awe… Some…
That about says it all.
BNCurtis on December 6, 2007 at 3:12 PM
and remember, the reason this got made and followed the book so closely was not the powers that be in Hollywood seeing a market demand and deciding to make money off it.
Its because a strong Christian Billionaire got fed up with Hollywood and put his money where his mouth was.

So far, I love what’s been done with my favorite children’s books, and this trailer looks great.
The only thing I would have liked to have seen is; the movies made in Lewis’ preferred chronological order (he didn’t know he was going to write a series when he wrote the first one).
The Magician’s Nephew
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
The Horse and His Boy
Prince Caspian
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
The Silver Chair
The Last Battle
Picky.. I know
ChrisM on December 6, 2007 at 3:38 PM
Oh, and Dawn Treader is my favorite as well. I think that was the first thing I ever read where the ‘minds eye’ really kicked in, I remember being able to see everything from the comfort of my bed.
ChrisM on December 6, 2007 at 3:42 PM
The first movie was wonderful, as was the book. I read all five books, but I honestly don’t remember much about the second book. I plan on seeing this movie as well.
Mooseman on December 6, 2007 at 3:44 PM
The Magician’s Nephew and The Last Battle were my faves.
Could our own Allahpundit be like Emeth?

Voyage of the Dawn Treader has the best opening line of any Narnia book: “There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.”

We love the Chroni(what!)cles of Narnia!
inviolet on December 6, 2007 at 4:30 PM
Right on. In fact that might be the best opening line of any children’s book ever.
inviolet on December 6, 2007 at 4:34 PM
I understand your desire for good wholesome entertainment but I do not want Robert Redford, Disney or anyone in Hollywood to make these films.
Why? Because when they make them, they twist them to fit their own man center worldview. The first installment is a perfect example of this. There is a scene where Aslan tells Peter something quite unChristian. I can’t recall it at the moment.

When are those kids gonna wise up and take some automatic weapons with’em?
TheSitRep on December 6, 2007 at 5:10 PM
I’m tempted to make a trip down to the basement, dig through my boxes of “stuff I had as a kid” and see if I can find my Chronicles of Narnia books.
Dave Shay on December 6, 2007 at 6:25 PM
Enough of this kid stuff. Where’s the Hobbit???
tommylotto on December 6, 2007 at 6:32 PM
I’m glad that Philip Anschutz has the money and smarts to fund slam-dunk hit moneymaker movies like this for the broad audience. Shame on the majority of Republican millionaires/billionaires who are stingy with their money when it comes to art and mass media.
You’re missing a HUGE business opportunity…
ScottMcC on December 6, 2007 at 6:40 PM
I remember. He says, “Be sure to check out The Golden Compass, coming Christmas 2007!”
Talk about your product placement…
Nethicus on December 6, 2007 at 6:47 PM
I saw the trailer yesterday and it does look good. I look forward to seeing the film.
Really glad to see the books being made into movies.
Bob's Kid on December 6, 2007 at 7:15 PM
I hope not too, because that is my favorite of all the seven books.
Bob's Kid on December 6, 2007 at 7:17 PM
Excited… but now I want to hear more about this Conservative Outing/March in May!!

The gauntlet has been thrown down!
I just watched the first one (if it was the first one) last week! I was pleasantly surprised. Now, looking forward to this new one.
Zorro on December 6, 2007 at 9:57 PM
Golden Compass my ass!
Jimmie on December 6, 2007 at 10:27 PM
I wasn’t the most impressed with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe movie - mostly because of the little things they left out for no reason whatsoever. Like the ‘deep magic’ stuff, etc. It became “true sacrifice” or something stupid. As opposed to an un-true sacrifice…? C.S Lewis is my most favorite author evah, so yeah, I could be considered a purist.
Okay, enough about that. I still will go see Prince Caspian though. I’m sure it will be enjoyable but I’m still gonna re-read the book beforehand so I can nitpick. Woot!
emmaline1138 on December 7, 2007 at 1:49 AM
You are quite correct to point out how movies tend to alter the original meaning of the author’s story.
Even Lord of the Rings had it’s flaws.
Kini on December 7, 2007 at 3:48 AM
Actually, I believe it’s the Chronic(what!)cles. As in, smokin’ the chronic.
Tzetzes on December 7, 2007 at 8:27 AM
I read the books in the sixth grade, then again in the tenth. Loved them!
Favorites:
Voyage of the Dawntreader
The Horse and His Boy
The Magician’s Nephew

Glad to see the cute older sister’s back…
Tzetzes on December 7, 2007 at 8:28 AM
I go to the movies only once or twice a year. This movie will be one of those times. This looks like it will be up there with LOTR as far as a great series of movies.
Snidely Whiplash on December 7, 2007 at 12:55 PM
Looks great. I was wondering if they were going to do more of the series.
My favorite was Dawn Treader followed by Horse and his boy and The Magicians Nephew and Last Battle.
CrazyFool on December 8, 2007 at 12:21 PM
Not quite, but LOL.
