Meeting of the minds: Ron Paul versus Joy and Whoopi on abortion

Exhibit A on how the show suffers without Rosie: If she had been here, the first question out of the chute would have been about WTC 7. Instead, we got this eye-crosser about abortion followed by a gimme about immigration and then Whoopi asking what we’re going to do about China, to which Paul replied with his customary rhetorical shrug. My favorite part of this one is at the end, where rich actress Kate Walsh asserts that if Roe is overturned only wealthy women in red states will be able to travel to blue states for abortions — bus tickets now apparently being the province of the “wealthy.” That’s a small price to pay, counters Paul, for the reduction in partial-birth abortions, no? To which no reply is forthcoming.
Not a single question about the war. I guess they figured if they’ve got a Republican in their presence, why make nice?
Joy also asks him if he’d endorse any of the other candidates. At this point, I can’t say I blame him for his answer.

They put RP on the view just to show their viewers who the Republican Candidate was. The MSM continues to bust their a$$es to get the crazy and the useless some recognition.

I thought my head was going to explode! My God is this who’s voting! Isn’t there a sanity test! Where’s Rosie when you need her?
Dread Pirate Roberts VI on December 4, 2007 at 3:17 PM
More proof that there should be a literacy test required for voting.
jdawg on December 4, 2007 at 3:20 PM
Hey folks, I know Ron Paul has the crazy koolaid on foreign policy, but if he weren’t so nuts, he would beat Fred Thompson out as a consistent conservative.
Don’t let the man talk about anything outside the US. Other than that he’s one of the best social cons around.

“Grey’s Anatomy”, “Private Practice”, a Cadillac commercial…
Frozen Tex on December 4, 2007 at 3:23 PM
Margaret Sanger started Planned Parenthood in order to cleanse the race of inferior people. The feminist movement today is all about subsidizing abortions for poor people. Some things never change.
pedestrian on December 4, 2007 at 3:25 PM
That was great……… (Full disclosure: I’m not a Ron Paul fan) He made Joy and Whoopi look like fools! He twisted them and worked them over like they were his puppets. My favorite part was when Whoopi tried to correct him about the abortion laws. I mean seriously, who has the stones to try to correct an OBGYN/Presidential candidate about abortion laws??? What a dunce! And I also love how he almost backed Joy into admitting that she is not really pro-choice. How does the Kool-Aid taste ladies??????

Who the heck is Kate Walsh? not that I really care having seen her “insightful” comment……No, I don’t want to google her name.
MNDavenotPC on December 4, 2007 at 3:40 PM
That’s the biggest lie in the whole abortion debate, that the pro-choice side is composed of people who only regretfully support it. I’ve known an alarming number of people who were and remain remarkably casual about their birth control abortions.
Kensington on December 4, 2007 at 3:40 PM
And, although Kate Walsh’s commentary was insipid, she remains fundamentally yummy.
Kensington on December 4, 2007 at 3:41 PM
in rhetoric, not reality. In reality he receives the following ratings from NARAL Pro-Choice America:
McCain, Brownback, Thompson, Tancredo and Hunter all have 0% ratings for their years in congress.
Paul has recently been much more pro-choice and his answer to that would be “Federalism”…..except for he voted for the Partial Birth Abortion ban, further contradicting himself.
and in reality, in the post-Roe/Casey era, abortion is a federal issue until its overturned. To say otherwise is counterproductive…though I’m not sure Paul doesn’t think he’s living in 1807 instead of 2007.

Joy Behar is proof that there is a village somewhere, missing its idiot!
abinitioadinfinitum on December 4, 2007 at 3:46 PM
For a Republican on The View, he did an outstanding job. Behar looked like she knew she was outsmarted on the abortion argument.
Valiant on December 4, 2007 at 3:46 PM
Ah, my bad then.
I will return to my regularly scheduled “Ron Paul is freaking nuts!” programming.
BKennedy on December 4, 2007 at 3:47 PM
Ok, Allahpundit I’m asking you do do this by the numbers because I am just not getting, perhaps if I were just a little smarter I could see it, but…how exactly do you get a meeting of the minds, between three individuals who are clearly out of their minds?
doriangrey on December 4, 2007 at 3:47 PM
Joy: I don’t want the government telling me what to do with my body.
I don’t know anybody who wants anything to do with Joy’s body…

This was more a meeting of whines – not minds.
pocomoco on December 4, 2007 at 4:02 PM
conservative truthers you bring the same thing to the abortion argument that the 911 truthers bring to that argument… eye rolls and pfffts
now you’ll get all bent out of shape and want to look at your proof that there is a conspiracy to cleanse the America…
take a breath and get hold of yourself and reality “Man is evil and capable of anything, Mankind is good a deserves the benefit of doubt.” while one person or a few may have some plan or agenda, that does not discredit the whole argument.
besides does anyone hear believe that abortion is going to be changed in the next administration? really?

Kaptain Amerika on December 4, 2007 at 4:10 PM
And if he weren’t so short he could play for the L.A. Lakers!
Problem is, that he isn’t interviewing to be the US domestic advisor or President of some third world country. Foreign policy matters are important and he’s right up there in the belfry with all the other moonbats (many of whom apparently blog for a living).
highhopes on December 4, 2007 at 4:10 PM
Surely Joy Behar has passed menopause. How are laws about abortion telling her what to do with her body?
Esthier on December 4, 2007 at 4:12 PM
Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice star.
It’s actually a fact. The woman was a huge racist who wanted black people to quit reproducing thus getting rid of black people.
Esthier on December 4, 2007 at 4:15 PM
Goodness, even plane tickets aren’t just for the “wealthy.” They’re not for the poor, but then again, abortion isn’t cheap either. Poor people are financially better off giving their children up for adoption.
Esthier on December 4, 2007 at 4:18 PM
I believe the cost for a plane ticket and abortion are roughly the same ($300), although I’d vomit if I ever had to go in and check.
Although they do have “financial aide” for “those who qualify,” or as Margaret Sanger would call them “the niggers, retards, and morons.”
After all, nothing helps a poor woman like rending her baby from her womb and chucking the remains in a GLAD bag, resulting in untolled psycological damage and occaisionally infertility if the abortionist makes an error.
BKennedy on December 4, 2007 at 4:23 PM
In fairness to her, she does play a doctor on TV, so it’s not like she isn’t an expert or anything.
Not to mention that she’s hot, so at least you can turn the sound off and watch her, which is more than you can say for the rest of that show.
Dudley Smith on December 4, 2007 at 4:23 PM
ugly american, re: Costco’s mayonnaise..
Nice, i got the reference…
feminist author Amy Richards tells of her experience with aborting two of three triplets, in a process she calls “selective reduction.”
max1 on December 4, 2007 at 4:24 PM
Wow that is very surprising. A bunch like the View cast not asking Ron Paul about Iraq? Seriously what’s up with that? I assumed that was the main reason they booked him. Virulently anti-war republican candidate.
Very very strange.

Kensington- yeah, that always bothers me, too.
It is amazing how Joy is happy to engage someone in civil debate, as long as she knows that person hates Bush.
MayBee on December 4, 2007 at 4:36 PM
Why yes, actually, for the last 30 years we’ve been one Supreme Court Justice away from restoring the Constitution.
And since my Sanger comment went over your head, I’ll spell it out for you. I’m not saying the dimwits on the View are closet eugenicists. What hasn’t changed is that they are willing to sacrifice any number of lives necessary to achive their goals, provided the lives are those of others. When Blacks were considered “other” by civilized women, they could be treated as animals to be bred out. Now it is unborn children that can be sacrificed in the name of a woman’s career. But will they raise a voice to help women who are lashed for speaking to an unrelated male? No, simply because that would implicitly support the War on Terror, which they couldn’t care less about, except that it would secondarily support a President who has gotten in their way.
pedestrian on December 4, 2007 at 4:39 PM
I think Whoopie should be confronted with the “I had an abortion” t-shirts to counter her assertion that no one takes this issue lightly. I’m not afraid to admit that I agree with Paul (and Thompson) on this issue that abortion should be left to the states to decide.
Defense Guy on December 4, 2007 at 4:41 PM
If it were any other show besides The View, I’d doubt it, but could it be possible they just had no idea who he was?
Hannibal Smith on December 4, 2007 at 4:41 PM
What? Really? Ew!
“Mommy, why don’t I have any brothers or sisters?”
“You did, dear. I just killed them.”
Frozen Tex on December 4, 2007 at 5:03 PM
I remember that article, absolutely sickening. The woman was more worried she’d have to by mayo at Costco than aborting her children for those who never read it.
Dash on December 4, 2007 at 5:08 PM
I really like how Ron Paul smoothly wiped the floor with those dingbats and they didn’t even notice. Getting a Lib to admit that terminating even a late term pregnancy is murder…ha. “You want the government out of your home, right….” he says in that Grandpa voice (they nod) “..but yet you can’t murder a baby in your home” (they stop nodding). hahaha

With hacked polls and sock puppets this dude actually thinks he’ll win.

P.S. Whoopi is right about one thing though. Pro-lifers clammer to end abortion but say nothing about what to do with the children. I for one don’t want a woman who would kill their baby raising them. Off the top of my head, I can think of only one church that has something set up for girls who do not have the means to take care of their children. They built their own appartment building with staff for this.
P.P.S. I’m a pro-lifer as well. Just mentioning that so no one thinks that was an attack statement.
P.P.P.S. Whoopi has had over six abortions.
MirCat on December 4, 2007 at 5:31 PM
Surely some of them say something, don’t you think?
Here’s something: parents should, wherever possible (and don’t confuse “possible” with “easy,” “convenient” or “painless”) raise them.
I think you might underestimate the transformative and maturing power that parenting has on many people.
Regardless, the principle of preserving a baby’s right to life must not hinge on whether or not third parties are standing by to raise them.
Kensington on December 4, 2007 at 5:43 PM
Oh, I’m not compromising on that at all. I’m just saying more people should be working on the alternatives to abortion. If you take away the excuses . .

Don’t most countries in the world now have years long waiting lists for infant adoptions?

I didn’t know he is an OB/GYN. It was funny they were arguing with him about when he’s allowed to perform an abortion.

Which, unfortunately, proves that there are some males who will do anything.
LegendHasIt on December 4, 2007 at 6:41 PM
I hate to say it but I have no problem with that.
TheSitRep on December 4, 2007 at 6:55 PM
No, Whoopi is full of garbage as usual since pro-lifers are the ones with the most services to aid and support women dealing with crisis pregnancies during and after pregnancy. They certainly can’t support a woman for 18 years, but our local CPC Birthright of Taunton does everything it can from diapers to cribs etc to help pregnant mothers.
There are countless pro-life ministries to pregnant and new mothers that provide everything from spiritual support to material needs.
Remember: Just because Planned Parenthood views women as a walking wallet that they just rush in, load with propaganda and misinformation and then kick out into the cold doesn’t mean pro-lifers do.
Oh, and some Sanger quotes:
“The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”
Margaret Sanger, Women and the New Race
(Eugenics Publ. Co., 1920, 1923)
“We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population,” she said, “if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.” Woman’s Body, Woman’s Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America, by Linda Gordon
“…human weeds,’ ‘reckless breeders,’ ’spawning… human beings who never should have been born.” Margaret Sanger, Pivot of Civilization, referring to immigrants and poor people.
Wasn’t she wonderful? Planned Parenthood continues her proud legacy today.

What were the votes? A rating means nothing without some context about the votes. I probably agree with the ACLU 90% of the time, but I only hear about the 10% that annoys the hell out of me.
DaveS on December 4, 2007 at 9:33 PM
You shouldn’t make accusations of Trutherism unless you actually know what you’re talking about, which you clearly don’t. Anybody that’s even slightly acquainted with Margaret Sanger’s bio knows she was an open and outspoken racist and eugenicist. She never made a secret of it, although obviously it’s news to you. BKennedy was kind enough to provide a few quotes up above, but here are a couple more:
Or you’ve got the ever-popular “A Plan For Peace” (1932), which proposed
Her whole life was spent promoting that crap–sterilization, segregation, and abortion for those “dysgenic” groups that she and her fellow elitists deemed “unfit”. (She was also a Socialist, which should surprise no one.) All right out in the open. But you have the gall and ignorance to accuse those of us who actually know something about her of Trutherism? How about you educate yourself a little on the subject, so next time you don’t look like such a dumbass?
ReubenJCogburn on December 5, 2007 at 1:18 AM
This assumes that both Roberts and Alito would vote to overturn Roe, and perhaps they would. But we don’t know that for sure. As judicial conservatives, one or both men might be unwilling to convulse American law like that.
Again, I’m not saying that Roberts and Alito wouldn’t vote to overturn Roe. But I don’t think we can view either of them as in the tank for overturning it.
In Carhart, Justice Thomas wrote:
Scalia joined Thomas’ concurring opinion. Roberts and Alito did not. That doesn’t necessarily prove anything. But it does leave their views on Roe shrouded in mystery.

Aren’t there any female, conservative, Hollywood-types we can get on that show?
When they get a conservative commentator like Laura Ingraham, the View-ers are attacking so fast and furious she can hardly get a reply out.
I wonder if there was a conservative ‘fellow woman’ celebrity/entertainer on the show, they might engage in a civil discussion.
Like they did with Kate Walsh and Ron Paul. But wait – they both hate Bush, so…
