An Infidel Asks Muslims a Question...

I am stumped - here is the question:
I purchased a Teddy Bear this morning for the princely sum of $10.
I named him Mohammed.
This afternoon I sold him on E-Bay for $30.

There's probably some Muslims and their Western appeaser/enablers who now think she AND WE should be grateful for her release.
.
Not me. The genocide-committing Sudanese Islamofascist dictatorship simply realized the international costs where higher than the domestic benefits of martyring that woman.
.
This just reinforces my opinion of Islam and Arab cultures in general.

Or claims that they are tolerant for letting her go? I'm sure the PC crowd the world over will use this as an example of the utmost tolerance, and move on.

And even now, she was pardoned and had to leave, not exonerated and her many dangerous accusers told to stand down.

Yep; my thoughts exactly.

Also: the CIA world fact book lists Sudan's literacy rate as 61.1% (male: 71.8%, female: 50.5%). It's not like they can afford to lose teachers, and I'm sure Gibbons won't be the last to leave.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lord Ahmed and Baroness Warsi explained to Omar al-Bahir that the best way to conquer Britain was through a slow, demographic jihad and that if he would just tone it down a little they could get on with it.

They always intended to let her go, once they made their point.

“I had no idea at all of the sensitivities of the name Mohammed until seeing this case in Sudan,” Gray told The Sunday Times.

“As soon as I saw the news I thought, ‘Oh gosh, I’ve got a mole called Mohammed - this is not good’.”

Point taken. Remember that artist, the one either Hot Air or Michelle Malkin reported? The one whose art mocked Christianity and Jesus, but who said he'd never mock Mohammed because he didn't want his head cut off?

Muslims are a lot like a town bully who acts like a loose cannon and has everyone afraid to challenge him or even look at him the wrong way.

Um, which fruits are offensive to Muslims again?
saint kansas

Just send him a ham. Stamped "my name is Mohammed."

Suppose for a second that this children’s book in Pakistan came out and one of the characters was called Jesus the Monkey. I personally would shrug it off, but don’t you think it would raise a few eyebrows in the Bible Belt?

Yes, probably would.

There's is a big difference between 'raised eyebrows' and huge riotous mobs in the streets calling for someone's execution.

In Judaism we have such an atipathy to writing/speaking the name of God that we’ve forgotten how it is pronounce.

Well, maybe if you had followed the Religion of Peace's example and shouted God's name every time you cut off the head of a Gentile you wouldn't have that problem.

Thank god Britains mucky muck muslims were able to have her pardoned of her crime. Finally Britain has found an effective voice for dealing with Islam. Britain should put muslims in charge of their war on terror, make them responsible for foreign affairs as well and appoint one as Archbishop of Canterbury. Then there would be peace and progress and oodles of Jizya.

I honestly don't know how ruffled folks would get if Jesus the Monkey were at least cute and friendly. But I'd go so far as to suggest that some folks go above and beyond trying to be offensive. Seriously! To hear her speak it sure doesn't sound like she's learned one thing. She'd stay there if it was at all possible! Maybe she's just trying not to rock the boat any more than she has, but I'm not so sure.

A British children’s author who called one of his characters Mohammed the Mole

Suppose for a second that this children's book in Pakistan came out and one of the characters was called Jesus the Monkey. I personally would shrug it off, but don't you think it would raise a few eyebrows in the Bible Belt?

Pardoning suggests that a crime was committed.

A good point, and an important one. Pardon, schmardon.

On the UK message boards, a lot of people threw up their rhetorical shoulders and said, "That's the law, she should have known better."

To which I replied: (1) what sort of precedent is there to suggest this would be an "insult" to Islam, and (2) how exactly would you as prosecutor establish any sort of intent to "incite hatred" (one of the initial charges)? She thought she'd give children a cuddly teddy bear named Mo to incite hatred?

/I'm not a lawyer, but I play one in this post.

but I’d be surprised if threats to Gibbons’ life don’t follow her from that jail house in Khartoum all the way back to Britain

I've been worried about this as well.

And I'm extremely concerned about the fate of the children who named the bear in the first place. The bloodthirsty mob didn't get its blood from Gibbons, I'm afraid they'll try to get it elsewhere
