“Those that do come into this country illegally are telling us that they are morally and ethically not trustworthy. They should not be here. It’s insulting to those of us who are here legally.”

I find it interesting that the Iranian is the only one that says the ilegals are here because they want to be part of this country. most don’t give a rats arse about america, itsall about what they can leach

Why is common sense not so common?

As a legal immigrant, Welcome indeed!
Kini on December 3, 2007 at 11:27 PM
As a legal immigrant, I do find illegal imigration very insulting and offensive. I waited years for my visa, followed all the rules, and here I am.
I can never understand why some people would want to reward people who choose to ignore the rules and come here illegally.
redzap on December 3, 2007 at 11:28 PM
It’s like Michelle said: “What part of ‘illegal’ do they not understand?” They want a free ride. They want it all handed to them. Sound like any political party in particular you know? They fit right in. I salute those who come here legally and welcome them with open arms. We need them. We want them. I personally wish them great success here. Those that want a free ride can leave. Now.

What Spirit said, welcome. We’re happy to have you here! America’s a better place now.

Too bad not enough of our Congressmen, Senators and President understand what John Paul what has said so succinctly.

We should seek skilled professionals who add more than they take.
Plus actual political (not economic) refugees, whose lives would be at stake elsewhere. …Maybe we could take from some of those dwindling Near East Christian populations.
(That is, if Hucklebee’s religious-immigration crowd doesn’t have too big a problem with non-Orthodox Monophysites…)

I did this story today too!

Bryan, I couldn’t agree more, but off topic, how many stupid TV executives does it take to kill a perfectly good game of skill and chance?
Sorry. Couldn’t help it.

I experienced this solemn, miraculous, and memorable ceremony in San Diego too. I read this article slowly, welling up just thinking back. It can’t be written, or otherwise expressed, how emotional and impactful this swearing in is. The sense of sacrifice, of hard earned privilege, of pride, and allegiance is incredible. It’s not a joy of wishing to jump up and down with happiness. It’s a very reflective and somber joy.
I understand fully how new citizens want to be Republicans or independents, having escaped all forms of -isms, exploitation, belittlement, and the opposite of all which the U.S.A. freedom embodies. Also, having risked much, in so many cases. This was, is, and hopefully for us and the world, will remain a great country.
Welcome all new legal citizens. Keep this wonder of the world free, young, and vibrant forever. It’s the only hope for the rest of the world.

Exit question?
Not really, but did The Patriots really win anything tonight?
Sorry about the O T, but this is a serious abuse of our reason to live.

You may or may not understand this, but here it is anyway:
You are one of my heroes.
Please don’t ever stop commenting here, seriously.
Of course it’s up to the powers that be, but you are a treasure to me. Just a random thought from a not-so-random hillbilly who pays attention.
hillbillyjim on December 4, 2007 at 12:31 AM
Entelechy:
This is the ultimate irony.
Here I am ‘bitchin’ about a little thing and here you are teaching me what it is to be “Somebody” instead of “anybody”. Forgive my badly expressed English, but, U the 1.

Interesting that the oath they take, to abjure foreign potentates…. and yet still somehow allows them to have dual citizenship…
I think THAT is the fight we need to start… get rid of dual citizenship…
Be a dam American… or get the heck out… I don’t want half Americans here… all it does is further divide an already too divided country.
Romeo13 on December 4, 2007 at 12:55 AM
Well, hillbillyjim, you made me blush. I prefer the “treasure” to the “hero”, so as to give full credit to the real heroes, those who protect us. Now I have to work hard to not disappoint you :) I like you too and recall having exchanged a few thoughts with you over our time at HA. Remember, if I agree with comments, mostly I don’t reply. But I do read them, often all of them.
Please don’t mind the OT. I’ve done it before too. Now my emotional recollection of being sworn in will be ‘hugged’ forever by your two comments, on something I didn’t even understand, until you clarified. Thanks for your “random thought” and best regards,

Entelechy:
Once again, I find myself in your debt.
My (half) sister, who I consider my best friend, lives in a beautiful Italian village which I won’t name, but I find that the credible threat to her and her offspring (my nephew) enough to be more than a casual reason to not be bold with their identity) enough reason alone to be strong about this issue.
I understand that you probably have a HUGE amount to lose that most wouldn’t understand.
Again. You are my hero. (Of course, so is my sister, but she is easily embarrassed, so…..never mind.)
hillbillyjim on December 4, 2007 at 1:03 AM
Entelechy: I don’t use the word lightly.
hillbillyjim on December 4, 2007 at 1:08 AM
hillbillyjim, never give up anyone’s identity here. These blogs are watched around the world and it w/b too dangerous. I’ve been to Italy a few times for work and it is beautiful, especially the Northern part.
Romeo13, it’s not quite as you imagine it to be with the dual/multiple citizenships. This is a short and informative read.
When I became citizen, I would have gladly renounced my other one. The communists wanted me to go to Wash. D.C., pay around $500, and sign a piece of paper in which I would have sworn to never bad-mouth them. Alternately, they offered to send one of their flacks to San Diego, at my travel/hotel expense, to collect the money and sign the paper. I refused, ignored them, and Ronald Reagan took over. That’s how it is that I still hold that citizenship, and technically could consider myself an EU subject. The thought of it kills me. Trust that I have no other allegiances.
Entelechy on December 4, 2007 at 1:16 AM
Let me be more precise: I don’t use either word whimsically. You are truly a treasure and a hero to me for reasons that you will probably find obvious, but which will elude most. So be it. It is what it is, as “they” say.
I think what I am trying to say is :
THANK YOU.
hillbillyjim on December 4, 2007 at 1:18 AM
Very good Jim, because it’s a difficult word, and many don’t understand it, or don’t bother.
Entelechy on December 4, 2007 at 1:19 AM
See this is where republicans can connect to Hispanics. By pointing out that any other newcomers will take jobs and benefits away from them.
They are the one who lose the most the more illegals that come into the country

By the way, is ‘Google’ to the English language as is ‘the calculator’ is to math? (in the context of teaching and learning???)
Another perfectly good SAT question ruined by me, myself, and I (the infamous triune?!).
You’re welcome.

Sample question:
Nonfactor is best described by:
a) pricktard
b)summabeach
c)a + b
hillbillyjim on December 4, 2007 at 7:17 AM
Well, I was born in the U.S. ( in a small town in East Texas. )
So I don’t know what it feels like to take that oath of allegiance.
But I do remember the day I joined the Marine Corps and the awesome wave of emotion I felt when I swore this:
“I, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”
And I get misty every time I here the National Anthem, America the Beautiful and the Marine Hymn.
TheSitRep on December 4, 2007 at 7:36 AM
Bonus points:
The antonym to Nonfactor would be:
a) prince
b) potentate
c) sovereignty
d) state
Ding ding ding!!!
If you said “a)”, congratulations.
If not, thanks for playing. Please try again.
hillbillyjim on December 4, 2007 at 7:43 AM
You know, that’s great and all and the quotes are a nice cut of red meat, but this article pissed me off.
The headline is: “Republicans winning new citizens for 2008 vote”
And in the article we find that “Previously, new citizens could be relied upon to vote Democratic by a ratio of up to 10 to one.”
Ten to one! What evidence is there that “this could be changing”? Well, a couple of people told Democratic operatives they dont like amnesty. That doesnt make me feel much better, sorry.
But that said, yes, absolutely welcome to our new citizens. It’s great to have you on board.
Dash on December 4, 2007 at 7:44 AM
I just got “goose bumps” reading your comment.
Wow. Beautiful indeed.
hillbillyjim on December 4, 2007 at 7:49 AM
This country has laws that work already, and loads of people that want to come to this country to be Americans. Sneaking under the wire doesn’t just bring in scofflaw elements, it brings in people that clearly place themselves first and foremost before the community, don’t learn the language, live in hidden clusters and simply wish to take advantage of resources earned by honest citizens.
Legal, honest, hard working people seeking a new life here have always been welcome, and we all share that in our heritage. It’s a big part of what makes this country work.
All I’ve said is against what the Democratic party currently stands for.

and half of our so-called leaders in the Republican party.
hillbillyjim on December 4, 2007 at 8:10 AM
I love emigration and immigration.
The only way for either/both to work is with the respect for, and the agreement to abide by, law and order.
hillbillyjim on December 4, 2007 at 8:14 AM
That’s really not accurate. I hear people say all the time that illegals need to wait in line like everyone else. But this is not like a list of season ticket holders where you wait until someone gives up the tickets and then you can buy them. My wife took her citizens oath back in August. She was eligible to become a citizen through marriage. The paths to citizenships are slim and mostly arbitrary. Legal immigration, right now, is as big a mess as anything the government is doing. I agree in securing the border, but if anyone thinks that illegal immigrants can leave, get in line at the Consulate, and be back at work within 5 years, than they are fooling themselves. They whole system needs to be redone, including a complete overhaul of the legal immigration system.

Well, the liberal man-of-the-people Nonfactor betrays an elitist streak. Good on ya for your honesty.

You are why I wore the eagle , globe and anchor among other reasons. It was my honor to defend your right to travel that hard journey to citizenship and I cannot say any more than “Welcome, citizen!”

TheSitRep, MNDavenotPC, and all Soldiers, this is so humbling, and such an honor. Thank You! Yes, TSR, I also well up every time the colors are brought in. It never fails, and never will.
Now, Jim, if you’d be looking for an antonym to Nonfactor, the handle, that w/b “factor”, as often stated here….because:
They might not know the exact meaning of the words, but many know what it means to be a patriot to this country. Many of the rest blindly vote liberal, in many cases because they don’t know the words, and don’t understand the meaning. What irritates you in this thread is that the new ones have you figured out, and that they don’t buy the media’s Bravo Sierra on your party gaining all those new votes.
Furthermore, even us little ones have your, and your party’s elitism figured out.
Entelechy on December 4, 2007 at 12:42 PM
Regarding knowledge of terminology, I never deal in debate with such issues. My multiple degrees and constant non fiction reading defends me every day. I couldn’t count the number of times, when I’m found to be a conservative and a Marine, the automatic thought process of some others is …. “ignorant flag follower”. I simply ask if they know me personally. If they don’t then they are asked to shut up, in the most humble and polite way that I can mean( kudos to Dom Irrera)
