His hilarious mockumentary Mail Order Wife “follows around” a conniving mail order bride from the Far East who marries both Adrian himself and his friend/cohort at different times in the film, and takes a stab at a third.

For those who aren’t squeamish or overly tsk-tskish when it comes to popular culture, it is not to be missed.

And man, I hope the funny Adrian Martinez pwn’s this other one good… and quickly.

There are literally thousands of marriages of present and former servicemen (and a handful of women) with non-citizens of countries we had bases in. Count me as one of the statistics. One of the meaner stereotypes I encountered from fellow service members who should have known better was the “only marrying for green card/bx card”. It shouldn’t be a surprise that young American guys and gals might just meet a local girl/guy, fall in love and get married.

I know that I am not going to get a lot of sympathy on this but the immigration system works fairly well but they are stuck on stupid when it comes to allowing visitors. This game show just illustrates how messed up things are. Don’t let a grandmother in for a visit but allow hundreds of thousands to stream over the border.

I think we have a winner here! However, let’s make it an exchange show, like those swapping Mom ones. An oppressed minority family from Iran or Afghanistan swaps places with an ultra-liberal US family (I volunteer Michael Moore, Susan Sarandon, or Rosie) for a month.

If that’s too controversial, how about “Who wants to marry a prisoner?” I’m surprised that one hasn’t been done. Well, televised anyway.

It is illegal to marry ANYONE for citizenship purposes only.

The key word there is “only.” It’s perfectly legal to seek out a citizen spouse and this game show wouldn’t be the first public means of doing so. If you want to criticize this show for continuing down the slippery slope of “Who Wants to Marry a Multimillionaire,” that’s fine. But to pretend that this show is much different in character than the time-honored practice of the mail-order bride is silly. If anything, it’s tamer: No marriage is taking place or guaranteed, the non-citizens are already here legally, and the couple actually gets a real courtship, albeit one with television cameras. It’s funny, but it’s not exactly an outrage.

But in America, while it is perfectly legal to marry someone you don’t like for money, sex, fame or pretty much any other non-romantic reason, one motivation is still deemed illegal: Getting married for a Green Card.

It is illegal to marry ANYONE for citizenship purposes only. That person could be deported and barred from life from this country and the citizen that married him/her could face hefty fines or prison time.
