Media swoons over Hillary’s ability to handle hostage crisis like any barely sentient person

She managed to refrain from screaming and crying. Then she flew to New Hampshire and gave a couple of perfunctory statements.
Portrait of “a woman in charge,” the “picture of calm in the face of crisis.”
Rick Moran says to wait two hours before eating after following that last link. Too late.

What a shock-the AP is seriously in the tank for Cankles. I don’t think even JFK got that kind of coverage after the resolution of the ‘62 Missile Crisis.
Travis Bickle on December 1, 2007 at 12:19 PM
hahaha that video never fails to amuse…imagine if that had been Hill in the back seat there.
Sir Loin on December 1, 2007 at 12:20 PM
A campaign staffer couldn’t have written a more ass kissing stroy.
redshirt on December 1, 2007 at 12:20 PM
…and was the hostage-taker a plant? Hmmm!
Sir Loin on December 1, 2007 at 12:21 PM
It was inevitable. I’m only surprised no one has made the direct comparison to 9/11 and “My Little Goat.”
John on December 1, 2007 at 12:22 PM
What did she do exactly? She stood in front of a microphone and said what somebody else wrote for her after making a couple of phone calls. I think the police in NH deserve alot of credit and the hostages themselves, but I don’t see where Hillary influenced anything. Next she’ll be saying Chelsea was jogging around the neighborhood and she was in dire fear for her life!
ctmom on December 1, 2007 at 12:32 PM
What no calls to Janet Reno?!!11
She’d have cleared this up in jiffy.
billy on December 1, 2007 at 12:32 PM
Never saw that video before. Fits perfectly.
12thman on December 1, 2007 at 12:39 PM
She had nothing to do with it. There’s a story out there(can’t vouch for it’s truth)that his mom came and talked him down. Still, it was so short and neat that one wonders if there is more to this than we are hearing.
jeanie on December 1, 2007 at 12:43 PM
MSM makes a big deal of many stupid things like this. I still haven’t decided if the media responds to consumer demands for dumb news? Or is it that dumb news is so easy to report on?
thuja on December 1, 2007 at 1:03 PM
But why didn’t Mrs. Clinton have dialogue with the terrorist? Isn’t her MO to negotiate and capitualte to terrorist? I just KNEW the media would spin it this way, though. Mrs. Clinton is so brave! She’s so calm! She’s tough! You can’t flap her! *BLECH*
SouthernGent on December 1, 2007 at 1:05 PM
Rush wondered the same thing - nice to see that HIllary can resort to Military force if needed.
And yeah I’d almost love to see what would be the liberal media reaction if this happened in Giuliani’s campaign office
Defector01 on December 1, 2007 at 1:09 PM
I always thought a dress rehearsal was a carefully planned event.
Interesting choice of words.
fogw on December 1, 2007 at 1:15 PM
Did he really? I feel so honored that I am thinking like Rush…lol. I only get to listen to his first hour. Awesome! You made my weekend!!
SouthernGent on December 1, 2007 at 1:19 PM
“Regal-looking,” not necessarily a compliment. Isn’t that what the American Revolution was about, getting rid of royalty? And doesn’t it reinforce the impression among many that Hillary is arrogant?
B26354 on December 1, 2007 at 1:20 PM
This is a most pathetic piece of crap.
I was hundreds of miles closer to the event and I remained calm too, but the AP too no notice.
Obsequious does not come close to describing this garbage. Is Johnson another Democratic plant?
drjohn on December 1, 2007 at 1:23 PM
“Regal looking”
Are you kidding me?
When the hell was Bush ever “regal looking”?
Someone ought to be demanding equal time.
drjohn on December 1, 2007 at 1:28 PM
I knew the media would slobber all over Clinton after this. It’s really disgusting.
One of my contributors begs to differ. An interesting read.
Hillary fails her first test of leadership
JammieWearingFool on December 1, 2007 at 1:31 PM
Oooooohhh no that video was just WRONG!
abinitioadinfinitum on December 1, 2007 at 1:42 PM
Big deal, Hillary met the press and with the families of the hostages. Fred! would’ve walked right into that campaign headquarters and dragged the loser (not Hillary) out by his neck before tossing him to the ground in front of the local police. Then Fred! would have straightened his tie, dusted off his suit, and gone to meet the press.
Now that’s presidential!
Mallard T. Drake on December 1, 2007 at 1:58 PM
It’s not hard to handle a crisis that really doesn’t involve you at all. They act like this was a family member that she would possibly care about. It was just another political opportunity to be used.
sMack on December 1, 2007 at 2:32 PM
Should have shown a clip of Hillary…then that would have really made me sick.
d1carter on December 1, 2007 at 2:42 PM
Plus it is now “acceptable” to use this tactic domestically. IMHO the perp should have been shot to make a point and nip this in the bud, a huge can of worms has just been opened . The AP is touting his positive traits, go figure.
bbz123 on December 1, 2007 at 2:42 PM
The first sentence contradicts itself - besides, she has no command over anyone at this time, except Bill, and that’s questionable, given what he knows.
Who didn’t feel “grave concern”, unless you’re a moron? Oh, the humanity! Violins are way too small. Or, the author thinks we’re all morons.
We must not be that moronic, though.
There is hope.
The “regal” is what’s going to do her in, hopefully in the general. People just know, and the media is powerless on that one.
Entelechy on December 1, 2007 at 2:43 PM
…and, remember this?
Entelechy on December 1, 2007 at 2:45 PM
I guess the fact that a bomb toting terrorist just waltzed into one of her campaign offices and shut down her whole operation nationwide sets the stage for what we can expect from her as Prez. I would have been much more impressed if she had refused to bow before the terrorists or better yet had some sort of security on her office.
Buzzy on December 1, 2007 at 3:36 PM
I question the timing of this “bomb crisis”
Is it just me or when Hillary’s poll numbers are tanking this “nutjob” (see paid policial stunt double) comes into a “Clinton office” and then just surrenders to police. Fishy I’m thinking. I real nutjob and/or Hillary hater would have blown himself up. If the Clintons could infiltrate a REP Debate this would be child’s play to stage…

If she had been present at the event and done something more than cower behind her Secret Service escort or faint or run away, I might be impressed by her handling of the situation.
As it is though; her ‘handling’ of it is about equal to MY personal handling of the events of 9/11/2001; I watched it on TV. Made a few comments on the internet and wrote a couple of checks to help out. Big Deal! (not).
LegendHasIt on December 1, 2007 at 3:59 PM
She hid out in Washington even canceling an appearance at a Democrat event, closed all her campaign offices nationwide, and strolled out of her bunker after bro was in custody a few hundred miles away. The guy was on the phone with CNN for gosh sakes and even they didn’t make it out to be anything other than a lone nut. Sounds to me like Hillary was in full on panic mode.
This is the person the country wants handling real threats?
I can just see it now, “A bank was robbed today and President Rodham has ordered the country into lockdown.” AP, the “news” service not the famous blogger, says she was very Presidential in making this decision.
RW_theoriginal on December 1, 2007 at 4:11 PM
It took a village.
saint kansas on December 1, 2007 at 4:24 PM
I keep hearing how wonderfully she handled this “unscripted” moment. How is this unscripted? Giving a press conference and answering questions spontaneously is unscripted. Holing up in your house all day with your staffers and speech writers, then coming out and giving a speech is hardly unscripted!
ctmom on December 1, 2007 at 4:51 PM
What crisis was there????
There wasn’t a bomb. No one was harmed; the guy surrendered himself!
The “crisis” took place in New Hampshire, and she was in Washington DC the whole time!
Meanwhile, when four planes slam into two Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and a Pennsylvania field, killing nearly 3,000 people, everyone still taunts Bush for not going back to DC!
ToddonCapeCod on December 1, 2007 at 5:04 PM
Some delusional drunk coming off a bender straps roadside flares to his polyester pants, walks into Hillary’s NH HQ while she sat still in DC… then flew up to NH later to make some rehearsed comments to the press.
Wow! She’s amazing.
D2Boston on December 1, 2007 at 5:17 PM
I question the timing…
RW_theoriginal on December 1, 2007 at 5:44 PM
It seems to me the crisis happened to the poor people that were held hostage. Where’s the big media praise for how they handled themselves?
MayBee on December 1, 2007 at 6:59 PM
i have a strong suspicion this was staged. it’s no coincidence that after her camp was blasted for the past few weeks for having plants in debates and townhall meetings, she needed a diversion.
it may sound extreme, but so was Slick Willy launching Tomahawks to terrorist training camps to get over his sexcapades.
madmonkphotog on December 1, 2007 at 7:26 PM
Indeed. Very impressive. Thank you D2B.
Entelechy on December 1, 2007 at 8:20 PM
Whether this was staged or not, time will tell,
however,Hillary’s little speech,was that she
let the police handle it,therefore, she’s a team
player, and for the voters out there, the undecided,
she also can handle a “Crisis Situation”.
This is a taste of what a Hillary term would look
like,if she gets caught with her hand,er Bill’s hand
in the cookie jar, presto,Hillary will just manufacture
a crisis!
canopfor on December 1, 2007 at 8:31 PM
She’s ready for her close-up Mister Demille…
Reminds me of the last time she sounded presidential, “I come too faaaar”, so regal.
Nobodies saying how presidential the police were conducting themselves, they seemed so in charge.
Oh, and the bomb squad, very very presidential.
Never mind our heroes and rescuers in uniform though… it really is all about Hillary. Flying in, cape ruffling in the wind, a giant H on her chest.
(how long till she announces Chelsea was close-by, only minutes away, making her way to the campaign center or had just departed before the hostage taking nut arrived, so close to danger, while innocently pondering the ills of Bush’s tax cuts?)
christophercube on December 1, 2007 at 9:56 PM
Of course she was calm. Hell she was calm while Bill was being prosecuted. SHe doesnt give a hill of beans about anyone in this country.
johnnyU on December 1, 2007 at 10:34 PM
I agree. The Seahag shuts down campaign offices, even in Iowa, and hides at home and comes out “regal looking”.
Uh huh. And Bush, just after 911, was blamed for hiding out in Florida, or Louisiana, or Omaha.
What kiss-a$$es.
91Veteran on December 1, 2007 at 11:26 PM
Yeah,, I love this! What did she do??? She was like 500 miles away demanding donations from somebody! Like,, does anyone really believe when they hear this report that the average Joe is going to think “Wow,, Hillary really handled that hostage crisis! she’s great!” Uh,, yeah,, I guess we all handled it pretty good then.
JellyToast on December 1, 2007 at 11:30 PM
Exactly what I was thinking.
