Open thread: O’Reilly interviews … Alf; Update: Surreal video added

posted at 8:21 pm on November 30, 2007 by Allahpundit

Friday night and the pickings are slim. Why not open a thread? They’ve been promoting it on Fox for days, and let’s face it, the show has been trending in this direction. The body language expert, the great American trivia quiz, Geraldo…

Should be on within the half-hour. Video is, of course, a must; it’ll be here later. In the meantime, Gibby offers you a dramatic reading of the left’s reaction to this afternoon’s hostage crisis: “Neocon scum!”

Update: Implausibly, it was even weirder than expected. The constant cross-cutting between the interview and old footage from the show makes it look like a promo, but near as I can tell there’s nothing Alf-related that’s about to hit the market that would need promoting. I’m thinking that O’Reilly … just digs Alf. And while I was kidding in the comments about him possibly getting a regular pundit gig out of this, O’R seems to hint at it near the end. Will we soon be hearing those magical words from KP on Monday nights, “I agree with Alf, but…”?

I’m also mildly disappointed that Bill didn’t get all moody and passive-aggressive like he did with MK the other night. “You like eating cats? You think that’s a nice thing to do? Huh? Do ya?”

Drinking game: Chug every time he refers to “the folks.”

Allahpundit on November 30, 2007 at 8:27 PM

Alf? I thought that was Helen Thomas.

RobCon on November 30, 2007 at 8:28 PM

You know, they seem not to have settled yet on a firm replacement for MM for that Monday segment with Powers.

Maybe this is Alf’s big break.

Allahpundit on November 30, 2007 at 8:28 PM

Alf? I thought that was Helen Thomas.

RobCon on November 30, 2007 at 8:28 PM

That’s because, like Alf, Helen Thomas eats cats.

CyberCipher on November 30, 2007 at 8:29 PM

Friday night and the pickings are slim.

Were I in New York I’d gladly hit a showing of Teeth with you. I’d even spring for the popcorn.

I hereby pronounce this the Official Allah Appreciation Thread.

saint kansas on November 30, 2007 at 8:29 PM

Memories…

And that drinking game would cause alcohol poisoning.

Plus, isn’t it a bit of a sin to chug Newcastle?

Slublog on November 30, 2007 at 8:30 PM

I want to see JR Ewing, Sue Ellen, Bobby, Pam and Lucy…not Alf!

SouthernGent on November 30, 2007 at 8:31 PM

So here’s the question: Is Gordon Shumway a Liberal?

amerpundit on November 30, 2007 at 8:33 PM

I’m watching the show right now.

terryannonline on November 30, 2007 at 8:34 PM

I don’t get it. What’s this have to do with atheism?

Professor Blather on November 30, 2007 at 8:34 PM

I want to see Max Headroom…not Alf!

Not the “drama” one on ABC, the talk show on Cinemax.

Max Headroom interviewing Alf would be OK, actually.

I suddenly get the feeling this post will not impress MKH.

saint kansas on November 30, 2007 at 8:36 PM

I don’t get it. What’s this have to do with atheism?

Alf is an atheist. Unlike “the folks.”

Allahpundit on November 30, 2007 at 8:36 PM

Alf is back!

How long before Levy books him for Red Eye? It seems like the perfect guest for that show’s death spiral of “entertainment” guests.

Nessuno on November 30, 2007 at 8:37 PM

Video is, of course, a must; it’ll be here later.

As I said when it was headlined, I’ll be holding you to that. Those of us who refuse to pay for cable will not be denied the rare second comings.

MadisonConservative on November 30, 2007 at 8:37 PM

How long before Levy books him for Red Eye?

Good question.

Allahpundit on November 30, 2007 at 8:38 PM

I don’t get it. What’s this have to do with atheism?

Professor Blather on November 30, 2007 at 8:34 PM

Atheists eat cats.

Helloyawl on November 30, 2007 at 8:38 PM

Ugh, I’ve been seeing the previews and dreading this… I guess it’s part of his “TV icon” series (which I think is likely only interesting to the 60-80 year old demo, and should probably air on AMC or something), but still… Talk about giving ammunition to your enemies. ALF!?

The body language expert, the great American trivia quiz, Geraldo…

I have to admit to usually liking the Culture Quiz. I think we all know how I (and most everyone here) feels about Geraldo. As for the body language expert… it would be an interesting segment if it weren’t for the fact that it seems like 99% of what she says is common sense – “You see how you’re facing away from Joy Behar, that’s because you’re less comfortable/friendly with her…” WHAAAAAAA!? Is that what that means?

RightWinged on November 30, 2007 at 8:38 PM

Speaking of the late ’80s, to paraphrase Say Anything:

I got a question. If you guys know so much about women, how come you’re here at like the Hot Air message board on a Friday night completely alone drinking beers with no women anywhere?

By choice, man.

saint kansas on November 30, 2007 at 8:39 PM

I want to see the body language expert anlayze Alf — then I want to her Alf respond to her analysis.

abinitioadinfinitum on November 30, 2007 at 8:41 PM

By choice, man.

saint kansas on November 30, 2007 at 8:39 PM

Like Fred Thompson, I’m happily married to a woman that is 25 years younger than me. What’s your excuse? Besides, too much sex can kill a man my age.

CyberCipher on November 30, 2007 at 8:42 PM

Laura (along with gratuitous shots of beautiful half dressed women) & Alf. What more could a 40 something white guy in the suburbs want?

TheBigOldDog on November 30, 2007 at 8:44 PM

She is no Michelle but I like Margaret Hoover!

abinitioadinfinitum on November 30, 2007 at 8:41 PM

I prefer Michelle too. But your’re right. President Hoover’s great-grandaughter is not without her charms.

timwashu on November 30, 2007 at 8:47 PM

I’ve never known Bud Abbott.

But, Bill O’Reilly is no Bud Abbott.

conservnut on November 30, 2007 at 8:53 PM

No, no. You’re confused. Alf doesn’t SPIT nearly as much as Geraldo.

CyberCipher on November 30, 2007 at 8:55 PM

I just finished listening to the interview. I was annoyed by the overuse of video cuts either of new material and old clips from the show.

Then again, I can only listen to it on XM so maybe it was worth watching the video aspects.

In any event, maybe Bill is right in saying that Alf would be a better pundit than many others.

Fox News contributor: Alf. Heh

Weebork on November 30, 2007 at 8:55 PM

On the other hand, Alf bears a strong resemblance to my collie. Remind me to check that dog’s pedigree again.

CyberCipher on November 30, 2007 at 8:55 PM

But Geraldo does eat cats right?

conservnut on November 30, 2007 at 8:57 PM

The segment just finished on O’Reilly. Anyone have the vid?

Alf could never replace MM. He’s too tall.

“Cats” isnt’ what I call it…it is a 4 letter word, though.

SouthernGent on November 30, 2007 at 9:00 PM

Sorry AP. Just noticed that you’d provide the vid when available. Tks for the open thread.

Alf’s best quote:
ALF: “Kate, where’s the casserole dish?”
Kate: “Why?”
ALF: “Because the cat won’t fit into the toaster.”

RMCS_USN on November 30, 2007 at 9:01 PM

conservnut on November 30, 2007 at 9:02 PM

Listen to Alf’s voice and tell me, just tell me it’s not done by Oliver North.

You can’t.

thirteen28 on November 30, 2007 at 9:05 PM

Someone should have had geraldo do the interveiw.

It could have been subtitled “Alf and Barf”

And Geraldo could have cried tears about how and Illegal Alien like Alf is treated in American forced to eat Cat and do jobs americans wont do.

William Amos on November 30, 2007 at 9:12 PM

*damn* Not once did he say “Here, kitty-kitty-kitty!”.

flipflop on November 30, 2007 at 9:28 PM

My gracious that was weird.

I can see the temptation to become one of those self-righteous “I don’t own a TV” people.

conservnut on November 30, 2007 at 8:57 PM

CyberCipher on November 30, 2007 at 9:45 PM

Alf also hosted his own talk show and even had Ed McMahon as a sidekick, so he could do more than just guest. The Alf Factor!

RW_theoriginal on November 30, 2007 at 9:51 PM

Oh, and since this is an open thread…

Have you all heard about the Zionist Zombie Cockroach Plot?

Israeli scientists have figured out how to turn cockroaches into zombie slaves.
[...]
The Israeli team, led by Frederic Libersat of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, discovered that a synthetic form of the neurotransmitter octopamine freed stung cockroaches from their zombie-like state.

They then injected other roaches with compounds that blocked octopamine — and turned them into docile zombies.

Bit o’ trivia…Does anyone know what “Alf” stands for?

Alien Life Form

RedWinged Blackbird on November 30, 2007 at 10:01 PM

I’m all in favor of Fox hiring Alf. The only real question is whether he should be the correspondent covering the Kucinich campaign, or the Paul campaign.

Either would work, as long as Fox cans Geraldo in the process.

LOL

I want MM back on Factor.

Speakup on December 1, 2007 at 10:14 AM

Did I miss something?
Why is Michelle no longer on the Factor against KP???
Come on. Dish up. Give me the juicy gossip that I obviously missed.

BTW, I enjoyed ALF. I did think it strange that Billy O. was talking to the furry puppet man like he was actually human. Oh well. I suppose the puppet dude is more human than some of O’s guests.

I used to watch ALF every whatever night it was on. I thought it was funny then, the sarcasm I think was new to T.V. then at least that is how I remember it. Good clean fun. Now it does look silly.

That was good.

Tim Burton on December 1, 2007 at 1:17 PM

Just a guess here, I don’t think it was the way Fox handled the incident between MM and the spitter as much as it was the way The BOR handled it. His pathetic pressing the spitter for an apology and the non apologetic apology. I say that since MM still makes appearances on other Fox segments. Laura is very good also Mz. Hover is no slouch, but I do miss MM.

oldernslower on December 1, 2007 at 2:54 PM

Bill is getting senile. His crew is tracking down puppets? What’s next. he and Gerrrraldo exposing the Jetsons for hiring an illegal robot maid?
