Bombers? What bombers? Our frontline aircraft are 20+ year old F/A-18s (whoops, sorry, Canada calls them CF-18s) And we just bought a C-17 Globemaster III.

I agree. It’s cynical, but the only positive point of being in Afghanistan is the practical experience for when we have a more serious/logical mission in the coming years. Our future officers will know the black soul of Islam and handle it as is proper.

Great point, but it’s not cynical at all, imho. It’s the wisdom of attacking Afghanistan and Iraq first. We now have a Military that’s deeply seasoned and experienced and capable of dealing with the battles we’re very likely going to have to fight in the near future.

Not to mention the strategic logistics of those chosen targets as they relate to iran and syria.

Actually, a couple of years ago, it came out in the news that the “higher-highers” in the military were aghast, and cracking down on, the new “Warfighter” attitudes and language of younger officers and NCOs that had returned from tours in Afghanistan. Since Canada had done nothing but peacekeeping and humanitarian aid missions since the Korean War, senior officers and NCOs had zero combat experience, and were (I think) secretly ashamed that they had no experience to back up their authority, so to speak, so they needed to keep the upstarts in their place. But the longer this goes on, the more experienced our army will be. Recruitment is up, and with a small force (compared to the US) and shorter deployments, soon there will be few Land Forces troops that haven’t “seen the elephant”. Which is a good thing, in my opinion.

An American officer was present when an artillery salvo was brought down on a taliban compound under attack by Canadian troops. When the explosions stopped a Canadian soldier yells out to the taliban…
