Please— Iraqis were firing at American aircraft throughout the nineties. When Saddam kicked out UN inspectors in 1998, BC was too busy with ML and his cigar to give a hoot. Bush II redrew the line in the sand and demanded results cause Americans are the only interested in enforcing UN resolutions.

Ummm.. with all respect to Herr Rove, the Congressional vote was on giving Bush the AUTHORITY to go after Saddam. Right? It did not mandate any kind of timing or commit Bush to rushing anything.It just said the PResident has the authority to enforce UN resolutions blablabla.

it made it political, in effect a mandate….which is what I think is Rove’s point. especially in the political climate of the time.

and for the paultards, if ever challenged in court, the “Iraw War Resolution” satisfies the constitutions ‘declare war clause’, just becuase it doesnt’ use the magic word ‘declaration’ at the top, doesn’t mean its not doing the same thing……….and if that doesn’t satisfy your psuedo-constitutionalism, then your hero voted for an ‘unconstitutional’ war, when he voted for the 2001 AUMF the Afghan war is fought under. funny how he doesn’t mention that huh?

so in this case I think Rove is full of it and trying to dishonestly blame Congress for a rush to war.

What a revisionist piece of crapola. And I supported the war at the time. I thought Bush took TOO LONG to crank the machinery up giving Saddam almost a year to hide his WMD materiel and programs before we ever got there in force.
