I don’t think Cooper knew, his last few words questioning whether they would have used the question at all if they know about the plant I think signals his sense of fair play. But I agree, CNN producers had to know. And their sense of fair play was that if they could fool the public then great!

CNN is so full of shinola. Deabtes in front of audiences, much less You Tube, should be banned. Let these candidates
stand and make their own remarks without cheering/booing section and without cute tricks like this one.
