See, everyone has an opinion. I think Mitt came across arrogant and defensive. He is trying to make up for his beta-dog image, got killed on the sanctuary cities in Mass. Fred is smart by laying low, Mitt and Rudy are making too many blunders by trying to be out in front.
Huck did good, because like Mitt he sounds good, and like Mitt his record will drag him down. Short term strong, long term, weak...that is the problem with records and history, they keep popping up to define what the men really stand for.

Call it motivated reasoning, but Mitt won this debate hands down. I have no idea what Townhall is thinking. If I were someone who believed in conspiracies, I would suggest they're pushing Huck intentionally. And they picked Fred as comming in second. I'm not sure what debate they were watching!

But really, that’s a question they need to ask the Democrats! Most of America is opposed to gay in the military (although I’m not sure why

Maybe it's those pink kevlar vests...
The opposition comes from more a logistics than any thing else. Where do they shower? With the men they are attracted to, or with the women they relate to. And similar with gay women.
The reason why, on ships, the men and women are separated is to minimize the sex and relationships. So where do the gay men (women) quarter? In their own area, or on land their own barracks? But then that would promote relationships. Think through it, it is a logistical nightmare. You are showering, and two gay guys are gawking, what is going to happen? There be a little *ss kickin.
Not everything works out how we want it to...there are a lot of reasons people can't serve, that may seem unfair.
With less then 10% of the population gay, and less then 1% in the military, you are excluding less then 1% of the population...

Oh, and the plant from Hillary's camp? How hard would it have been for CNN to find out who he was? It was a You-Tube debate. You-Tube is owned by Google.

Google results have the press release announcing his joining her campaign.

Hening..I did get a bit tired of hearing every one of Rudy's answers go straight back to "Well, I dealt with this same problem when I was Mayor of New York". Gets old after a while.

I thought Romney did ok. Policy-wise, Thompson still has the best plan for illegal immigration and I thought Huckabee had some great answers last night.

Watching Lutz this morning, he said there were only a couple moments where audience reaction was nearly perfect and one was during a Thompson answer on illegal immigration..his comment about staying a sovereign nation and who we allow in our home.

Shallow people complain of Thompson's or McCain's facial lines, as though the marks of time and accrued wisdom should be denied existence. If people vote for the pretty face, we are doomed.

Whenever Romney is questioned, he responds offensively. But rather than merely rebutting with qualitative information, he inaccurately calls his opponent OFFENSIVE or a BIGOT (when those terms apply more appropriately to Mitt). Even his official campaign story about his 2-year Mormon salesmanship course for young adults in France said that was where Mitt got his first taste of POWER. Note well, being a Mormon so-called missionary did not give Mitt his first taste of humility or appreciation for public service; he liked it because it gave him POWER.

The patriarchal Mormon battle cry is "POWER IN THE MORMON PRIESTHOOD!"--not to be confused with the Catholic priesthood that to Mormons is the "mother of all whores"--the Mormon priesthood is very entity that Mormons denied to those of African descent for exuding "the curse of Cain" until a PC policy change in 1978 would improve public image AND GET MORE CONVERTS (aka $$$$$$ required membership dues strict 10% tithe PLUS faste offering of the family food expense 24-hour-period per month PLUS building fund PLUS congregational expenses PLUS supporting your kids on a 2-year Mormon sales course that for public appeal is called a "mission", PLUS purchasing and maintaining your family's own year supply of food & water kept in storage to be prepared for disaster--in other words, don't ask the church for help, no matter, take care of yourself.) Get the chronology--their god's "divine and direct revelation" to Brigham Young denies African descendents the right to be ordained, but a business meeting in the SLC Mormon temple co-opts that "divine" revelation as politically incorrect. What we witness is the Mormon church instigating PC society, group think mentality, and in matters of discourse social fascism.

In his own way, Romney is Hillary. Why trust either, no matter what they say or how professional their campaign organizations may be? Mitt has his own hang-ups that prevent him from being a good President of the United States, no matter his paper "credentials". DIVISIVE, absolutely!

I refer you to what Jack M. posted today at 2:04 a.m. on ACE OF SPADES HQ:

Romney, for example, allowed himself to be played like a violin. They [CNN] set a trap for him and he walked right into it with his answer on the Confederate Flag.

As a lifelong resident of the South (DC is as far North as I've ever lived), I understand full well the passions that run on all sides of the Confederate Flag issue. For some it is a symbol of racism. For others it is a symbol of family military service. For some others it is a symbol of cultural and regional ties. Somebody flying a Confederate Flag probably is more likely to go to a NASCAR race or attend the weigh in at a Bassmaster Tour event than is somebody from Maine wearing a Boston Red Sox hat who does so to self identify with the cultural traditions of New England like, I dunno, Lobstering and raising taxes.

And Romney botched it. Here was the kicker line to his answer:

And that flag, frankly, is divisive, and it shouldn't be shown.
It shouldn't be shown? Really? Not over a Memorial Cemetary? Not in a museum? Not over Six Flags? Not in the Grandstands at a Nascar race? Not in a Re-enactment event? Not at a Historic Location like say the Shiloh Battlefield or Gettysburg? Not on the roof of the General Lee?

You know what else is divisive, Governor? Your campaign.

It's set Republicans against Republicans. Christians against Christians and/or Mormons (see, now even that is a debate!) and now Yankees from many Southerners. Maybe your campaign shouldn't be shown either. It's divisive.

And, Governor, to be honest, I really don't care about the Confederate Flag. I supported it's removal from the Capitol Dome in Alabama and in South Carolina. I also supported it's removal from State flags that had incorporated it.

But I don't believe it "shouldn't be shown." That's the kind of opinion one gets from the Northeast Elites. Those predisposed to a little of what Sen. Coverdell might have termed "regional arrogance."

But you choked. You let CNN stereotype Republicans as Rebel Flag obsessed racists, and then, accepting their stereotype, proceeded to throw a blanket condemnation upon them.

Coverdell understood the liberal's game, Governor. Look at his quote again:

But I have to say to him that evoking the Ku Klux Klan is something I would not have expected from him. It is demeaning. It is an inaccurate portrayal of the legislation. There is regional arrogance in the context of the Senator's statement, and I do not appreciate it.
Suppose you had been smart enough to say this, Governor:

But I would have to say that evoking the CONFEDERATE FLAG is something I would not have expected from CNN. It is demeaning. It is an innaccurate portrayal of WHAT THE GOP STANDS FOR. There is regional arrogance in the context of CNN's QUESTIONS, and I do not appreciate it.
Hell...I might have been convinced you had it in you to be President.

But you can't say that Governor. You are incapable of it. It takes someone who knows who he is and what he stands for to have the gumption to say it.

And you aren't that man. You simply have been too many things at too many stages of your life. Your philosophical core is hollow. You'd look great at Madame Toussauds, but awful in the Oval Office.

I don't mean to single you out...I only do so because you were the most egregious at letting CNN's questions go by. Your answer played into what they set out to portray.

Thus is the current state of the GOP. People say we are hung up about finding another Reagan.

I'm not.

I'd be happy if any of these guys even remotely resembled Paul Coverdell.

Border states need to shoulder MOST of the responsibility and should be funded to do so.

Ok, so border states have the responsibility to enforce the national immigration laws? How can we do this? Stop all cars on the highways that have hispanics riding in them? ACLU files suits for "racial profiling".

Maybe ALL government agencies need to check residence status every time someone fills out a document for education benefits, police reports, etc. And every state needs to crack down on employers who hire undocumented workers. And impeach any judge that impedes the progress of emforcing the law.

Build the wall. Enforce the laws. The illegals will leave when the welcome mat is rolled up.

But really, that’s a question they need to ask the Democrats! Most of America is opposed to gay in the military (although I’m not sure why…we love our contry, too!), so the democrats would be on the opposite side of America…as usual…which is probably why they never get asked such questions.

Are you sure that most Americans oppose gays in the military? I remember some poll from four or five years ago, saying that 2/3 of Americans favor gays in the military. Admittedly, I don't follow the issue enough to know if that poll was an aberation.

Education should not be provided to Illegals!
It only encourages more illegals.

Emergency medical care should be provided and then the consulate general of the treated should be billed for that care. and the patient deported posthaste.

Employers should be fined 10,000.00 per month for each Illegal hired. This is easy to do with the checking the ss#.

Within a few years they will migrate back home and voila!

Huck was on fiyah!!

Rudy seemed old in years and old in material. Like watching an aged comedian come up with the same thread-bare material, but with poor timing.

Dude, you are not running for mayor, start answering like the Prez!!

Nice spin, Guliani. 'Sanctuary city' has nothing to do with committing crimes or being suspected of committing crimes.

Advantage Romney.

MB4, let go a little. None of them, on both sides, are illustrious. I really worry about our country. However, no need to obsess about Rudy, or anyone. None are worth so much energy.

Btw. I don't like Bratton. He's done some good for LA but he's also done some very stupid things in the name of PC, often just for his own political good.

Continuing with this very side issue:

His real subject is himself, and he brooks little criticism(Capos seldom do). When I asked him if it was true, as I had read, that he fired William Bratton as police commissioner because Bratton was getting too much credit for New York's drop in crime, he replied, "I didn't fire him. He resigned." Then he acknowledged that "we had some differences about the publicity operation (Like about who was going to get credit, Rudycrapo or the police chief, who was getting credit from the press)in the police department. I thought after three years that it was time for new leadership (The capo wanted an underling that would praise him more)."

BTW, <strike>awake</strike> asleep, go to

http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm

and you should be easily able to see that violent crime was dropping across the U.S. during the years that Rudycrapo was mayor of NYC, not just in NYC.

I guess you will probably want to give the credit to Bill Clinton now.

My God in Heaven, what part of, "If you are an undocumented worker, if you are an illegal immigrant, we want you here.
- Rudolf Giuliani" DO YOU STILL NOT COMPRENDER?

Rudycapo ran a magnet sanctuary city!
Some lawn care company that Romney employed apparently had some illegal cutting grass for them.

Good Lord!

MB4,

Work on that small topical fact and I will get back to you. I can't stay up all night and with each response I feel like I am losing IQ points.

I will support Romney 100% if he wins the GOP nod, but I always need to keep it real.

MB4,

Crime rates dropped SLIGHTLY from 1990 to 1993, probably attributable to more police because Dinkins was under major duress. Under Giuliani it dropped DRAMATICALLY.

These are not big words or nuances that take a Phd to understand. www.dictionary.com should do the trick if needed.
