Crisis, day three: Teddy bear blasphemer may be looking at 10 years; Update: Charged with insulting religion and inciting hatred

Fox News is breaking right now to say she’s been formally charged but I can’t find a story yet. I’ll update momentarily. In the meantime, 200 lashes for riding in a car with an unrelated male, 40 lashes potentially for naming a teddy bear “Mohammed,” and for belonging to Al Qaeda — parole, after having been duly “reformed.”
Shari’a fever, baby. Catch it!
A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Sudanese boy yesterday defended the British teacher accused of insulting Islam, saying he had chosen to call a teddy bear Mohammad because it was his own name.
“The teacher asked me what I wanted to call the teddy,” he said shyly, his voice barely rising above a whisper. “I said Mohammad. I named it after my name.”…
She has been moved from a local police station to the CID HQ, and one of the guards there said: “She is sitting all by herself. No-one has talked to her. No-one has been in to see her today and she looks very sad. She has also had no food yet.”
One of her new friends in Khartoum said visitors had found her looking pale and dishevelled. “It sounds as if she is very tired and distressed by what is going on,” he said. “She is really struggling to cope.”
The deputy justice minister said this morning that she’s had food. As for that possible 10-year sentence, scroll down. I’m off to go find out what they charged her with. Blasphemy and the lash? Or sedition and a Sudanese dungeon until circa 2017?
Update: Blasphemy and the lash it is! Well, maybe — they could sentence her alternatively to prison or a fine. Will the government be tsk-tsking this one the way the Saudis have been doing re: the gang-rape victim’s sentence? Nope:
Ministry spokesman, Ali al-Sadeq, said the case of a “teacher’s misconduct against the Islamic faith” should not have provoked a British government caution warning to its citizens in Sudan.
Al-Sadeq said this was particularly so after the school had apologized to the parents, pupils and to the Sudanese in general for the teacher’s “unacceptable conduct.”
Update: Excellent stuff from the American Islamic Congress. “The sad legacy of the Danish cartoon riots is that we have to speak out immediately when extremists try to provoke clashes over trivial matters.”

Now you’ll face charges for spanking your kid if Massachusetts legislators have their way. I wonder what will happen if they find out some Mohammedan lashes his kid for looking lustily at an infidel babe?

Hey, isnt this the same Sudanese government which is allowing muslims to massacre christians in the Darfur region?
If so, can we kind of start to connect the dots here, if you catch my drift….
Always Right on November 28, 2007 at 10:50 AM
Time for the SAS to fire up the planes and mount a rescue. There is nothing even remotely resembling justice or civility for that matter in this case. It sounds like a bunch of mad mullahs determined to punish some poor women for the hell of it to stick a finger in the eye of the infidels. This cult has had a thousand years to perfect their craft.
LakeRuins on November 28, 2007 at 10:52 AM
I promised I’d post if the good folks at Islam is Peace wrote back, and they did. Color me less than impressed; not to mention their characterization of the 54-year-old woman as a “young lady”:
I would a preferred an “Obviously this is bullsh!t and of course we oppose it,” but you can’t always get what you want.
saint kansas on November 28, 2007 at 10:52 AM
I wish they understood that the charges and possible sentence incite more hatred than a little bear named “Mohammad” ever could.
MayBee on November 28, 2007 at 10:53 AM
Imagine how many stories like this we never even hear of…How often sentences are like this are handed out all over the Muslim world.
Where’s the glorious United Nations?
JetBoy on November 28, 2007 at 10:53 AM
saint kansas:
You are being overly kind.
The IIP response is a bunch of multicultural, leftist, aplogist CRAPOLA.
And oh so typical.
How is it that when Muslims come to a WESTERN society they are totally unwilling to observe OUR norms and pay heed to OUR cultural sensitivity, but demand complete and total obeisance when travelers go to theirs?
I think the answer is something called Sharia…
Always Right on November 28, 2007 at 10:57 AM
I wonder what it would take for the western governments to stop being polite in the face of the nerve of these savages. Iran kidnapping British soldiers, and now this…
What needs to happen right now is for England to give the finger and a big F U to this lovely country.
They’re busy genociding and having Piglet banned from public workplaces in the UK, while the UK just takes it up the a** in polite silence.
One day, maybe in 10 years time, there will be a ‘cartoon’ incident that will break the camel’s back and you’ll see westerners rioting and burning Arab/Muslim embassies.
AlexB on November 28, 2007 at 11:01 AM
I think Saint Kansas provided an answer of sorts.
TheBigOldDog on November 28, 2007 at 11:02 AM
This story shows two issues I think free civilized societies must recognize
1) Muslim countries are run by and populated with people that are barbarians. Plain and simple. Someone prove me wrong.
2) When in Rome…….. Why would any person that comes from a civilized country choose to go and work or live in these places? No matter how unfair it seems, folk that aren’t of the Muslim persuasion that go to Muslim countries need to be prepared for this. Don’t get me wrong, she doesn’t deserve this, but what person (and family members) would in their right mind choose to go to these countries to work? I don’t understand the (il-)logic of it all. Until we rid the world of this parasitic disease, there will be many places not safe for civilized people.
rayvet on November 28, 2007 at 11:07 AM
That’s it, I’m naming all my pigs Mohammad, number 1 through 263.
leanright on November 28, 2007 at 11:08 AM
Like I said yesterday…we need to isolate countries such as this diplomatically and economically and let them settle into the medieval culture they so desire.
flipflop on November 28, 2007 at 11:10 AM
Exactly! Where do you think these savage laws came from? From the local culture! Notice how the parents of the children formed an angry mob outside the police station and school there.
One day western governments will cease to be polite and deal with these rabid savages as they deserve to be treated – and really, in the only way that they know how to communicate – with force and disrespect.
AlexB on November 28, 2007 at 11:11 AM
I thought the Sudan was “on our side” too…helping us with spying in Iraq, and weeding out al-Qaeda.
JetBoy on November 28, 2007 at 11:17 AM
The problem with that isolationist approach is it does not work in the modern age of super empowered groups and individuals who are Hell bent on spreading their ideology and your destruction. Did people learn nothing from 9/11? What’s it going to take for people to wake up, a mushroom cloud? (Question is rhetorical – I know the answer unfortunately)
TheBigOldDog on November 28, 2007 at 11:20 AM
To bring a little “civilization” to that country? Though I do believe you need to know what you’re getting into and be prepared for the possible consequences.
taznar on November 28, 2007 at 11:27 AM
I’ve always had the belief that most of “Islamic law” was just a codification of 7th century customs and culture of the region. Sort of a “that’s how we’ve always done it” attitude extended to “and that’s how we’re always gonna do it.”
flipflop on November 28, 2007 at 11:28 AM
“Charged with insulting Religion and Inciting hatred”.
Boy am I perplexed,so it’s okay THEY burn American and
Israel’s flags, and it’s okay THEY incite THEIR people
to burn down embassies, and it seems it is also okay
for THEM to forment HATRED,so let me get this straight,
THEY are almost achieving crital mass over this women
calling this cute cuddly teddybear,”Mohammad”,which
happens to be the boy’s name and NOT YOU KNOW WHO.

I love it when Islamists try to placate Western sensibilities by using soothing words. Their efforts to appear rational, tolerant, and humanitarian are always comical.
Ultimately the Islamists just reveal themselves to be schitzophrenic, intolerant, and sadistic. From a public relations standpoint, they’d be better off boasting “Yeah, we’re going to flog the filthy kufr. What are you going to do about it?”

I’m still waiting for “church/state separation” liberals to call for no contacts/no money/no anything at all between the US government and church-run governments (as we find throughout the islamic world) …
As to the idiot teacher, that’s what she gets for going to a country like Sudan. No one should be surprised and no one should feel sorry for her. She decided that she wanted to be in Sudan, which we all know is a barbaric sh*thole where life is cheaper than potato chips, and she should suffer the consequences of such an idiotic decision.

We are dealing with a country whose people and government that have a 7th Century mindset.
Sudan literally still enslaves people. They are responsible for the genocide of perhaps a half-million people in Darfur, either directly or because they are allowing to happen in THEIR country.
Their behavior IS enshrined in their religion as their customs are devolved from their religion. They chose to live the way they do, even as other Muslim countries (Turkey for example) are part of the 21st Century.
If you’ve been reading Spencer’s Koran blogging here (or the Koran itself), you’d know that Islam means “submission,” not “peace.” And you’d know that Islam has always had a submit or die mentality, which is I believe that Islam is a “sword” religion of militancy.
The best way for the 21st Century world to deal with the 7th Century mindset is through the use of force majeure. It is something that they understand because this is how their religion spread in the first place, and that was how life was in the 7th Century.
I know that going to war over a single 54 year old foreign woman who is being caught up in their foul 7th Century customs may sound silly. But sooner or later, the 21st Century world will have to.
It is not what WE believe that’s behind this, it is what THEY believe. And Sudan CHOOSES to live in the 7th Century culturally.
Accordingly, Sudan should pay a price using a currency they fully understand. I would hope that the Brits blow up more than just an aspirin factory, this time around.
georgej on November 28, 2007 at 12:29 PM
That is just ridiculous. First, he was sentenced to lashing for vandalizing cars with spray paint, not for chewing gum. The student knew he was doing something unacceptable in any culture at the time he was doing it. Singapore does not have such a law because it is a Bhuddist nation, so it is ridiculous to compare the two when in Sudan, the actual charge is a crime against religion.
Second, the sentence was 12 lashes, reduced to 6 and eventually to 4 because President Clinton publicly and privately intervened and appealed to Singapore for clemency.
MayBee on November 28, 2007 at 12:29 PM
It’s like Alice Restaurant.
This lady may be no litterbug, but she is being judged with Islamic law. For naming a toy after a man who Islamic writings portray as a delusional madman, bandit, pirate, murderer, slavery advocate, warlord and the sexual abuser of a young boy and a young girl.
Naming a bear “Mohammed” is the least of his image problems.
uptight on November 28, 2007 at 12:34 PM
Nothing like a good old fashion stoning to get your Mohammad on.

“Inciting hatred”
-I don’t think their mammas taught them, as I teach the kids I care for, that someone doesn’t make you mad, you choose to be mad. Choose not to be offended, people. Life will be much happier for you.
tikvah on November 28, 2007 at 12:47 PM
Islam needs to be denounced just like Nazism has been.
MB4 on November 28, 2007 at 12:58 PM
It’s not Islam. It’s backwards cultural practices. There are different levels of barbarity in the Muslim world. Most of the barbarism comes from cultural customs dressed in Islamic justice, while in reality being cultural.
AlexB on November 28, 2007 at 1:05 PM
These people are nothing but trouble. First, they butcher thousands in Darfour, now they climb on this rediculous bandwagon. They need to build a huge bonfire, then get in it.
good riddance.

Allahpundit,
All I got from the AIC note is that they feel embarrassed again at being caught out associated with their fellow slaves of Allah in Sudan. I’m sure they could care less about the young lady. They dislike the disdain and mockery displayed by posters here in the original thread which was prefaced by HA as ridiculous comic behavior by ‘Slumtards in Sudan.
There are no “moderates” that have a shred of credibility in the vast wasteland of Islam. Don’t waste your time looking for them.

Just a quickie, AR. It’s my understanding the Fur are primarily Muslim and the murderous rampage in Darfur by Sudan via the Janjaweed is a genocidal racial cleansing war for land. Sudan’s religious war against Christians and animists was in the south.

Shouldn’t the 20 students who voted for the name also be punished? After all the teacher didn’t name the bear, the students did. So by their own law, the students should be up on charges for insulting is-lame. Oh that’s right, the law only applies to christians.

KMC1 on November 28, 2007 at 4:49 PM
And what’s the penalty for naming your child after a blood-thirsty, psychopathic, pedophile?
Master Shake on November 28, 2007 at 5:38 PM
We should all know by now that, when practiced in its pure forms, Islam is a deranged cult.
So while Sudan can live with its slavery, FGM, genocide and ethnic cleansing, it should come as no surprise that naming a teddy “Mohammed” sends them into apoplexy.
Nature of the beast.
There’s simply one lesson to be learned from this. Just one:
No Westerner should ever work or live in an Islamist state. Westerners should avoid even visiting Islamist states and governments should ban people going to these countries.
uptight on November 28, 2007 at 6:14 PM
Let’s change the “F-word” to ‘Mohammad’ so we can tell Sudan to “Go Mohammad itself” or to “Take a flying Mohammad on a rolling donut”. I’m sick and tired of being obsequious to a religion of murderers and their cheerleaders.
MaiDee on November 28, 2007 at 7:00 PM
Even the little boy who named the Teddy bear thinks all this is craaaaazy. Says something, don’t it.
Muslim governments really are pissing on British citizens these days. One thing I like about Bush is that he would get royally pissed off if this happened to an American.
Zach on November 28, 2007 at 7:29 PM
I don’t agree. The foundation of all the world can trace it’s roots back to the areas controlled by Muslims. It’s within any of our rights to go there and see for ourselves the areas where it all began.
However, if you are stupid enough to do so, it should be at your own risk. Afterall, it’s not THAT important…..
KMC1 on November 28, 2007 at 9:40 PM
MaiDee-
That would be “Take a flying Mohammad AT a rolling donut“.
Meanwhile-
Reporters in Sudan noted that, when the bear’s cord was pulled, it said in a cutsey sing-song:
“Allah sucks. Mohammad blows. That’s the way it always goes.”
The teddy was immediately beheaded.
profitsbeard on November 29, 2007 at 1:59 AM
Actually, come to think of it, maybe it’s right that she is punished. I mean, imagine a school teacher in the West had named a teddy bear “Adolf”.
