Video: Dog bites man wide receiver

A fitting end to a season in which anything could, and did, happen.

Are we actually looking at a Missouri/West Virginia BCS Championship?

Bama dog…?

Are we actually looking at a Missouri/West Virginia BCS Championship?

I’m counting on the Sooners to send my Buckeyes into the Championship game! Where we will be summarily decimated by our opponents for a second straight year…

Hootie on November 26, 2007 at 11:22 AM

I’ll loan him some of my pepper spray…

bikermailman on November 26, 2007 at 11:22 AM

dearlord, I was watching the game when the dog bit him and immediately thought “Countdown to racist Alabama/Bull Connor analogy by some lefty sports writer-cum-poltical pundit.”

Oh, and War Eagle!

Cuffy Meigs on November 26, 2007 at 11:25 AM

That’s just downright terrible. Once again the fearless ‘peace officers’ ‘protecting and serving’.

Let’s see, shouldn’t this football player have been tased? Or how about ‘he’s lucky he didn’t get shot’. Or maybe . . . he showed such disrespect – nobody has respect for authority anymore.

That dog and that policeman should not have been near the field.

ThackerAgency on November 26, 2007 at 11:36 AM

Once VT tromps BC for the ACC championship next week, they’ll have a solid shot at the big game.

Valiant on November 26, 2007 at 11:38 AM

Hey, I’m just upset at the BCS in general. My team has no shot of ever winning a National Title anymore; though we did once. It’s because we aren’t in the “anointed” conferences.

Well, maybe if we went undefeated for five years in a row, they might let us play in the championship game, but I doubt it. I hope the BCS rots.

Vanceone on November 26, 2007 at 11:41 AM

You could tell he (the wide receiver) thought about punching that dog, but saw the cop standing there and thought better of it… Haha.

Nineball on November 26, 2007 at 11:43 AM

That Officer looked like he was in a trance. You’d think the canine police would have been trained to keep extra control of their dogs and be very aware when players are close by. I guess it’s just a typical case of snoozing on the job.

greggish on November 26, 2007 at 11:44 AM

that should read dog bites cornerback

immersed on November 26, 2007 at 11:44 AM

I think it was a she officer. I was thinking I would have punched the cop. WTF!

Jaibones on November 26, 2007 at 11:45 AM

As for the Bonehead Championship Series, the Fighting Illini did their part by knocking off Ohio State.

Jaibones on November 26, 2007 at 11:47 AM

What is it about Auburn receivers and dogs?

rivlax on November 26, 2007 at 11:48 AM

There will not be a true national champion this year if there is not an SEC team in the championship game. Not one other team in the top ten could hang with Florida, Georgia or even LSU.

peacenprosperity on November 26, 2007 at 12:02 PM

Easy there, Rover…no need for revenge. Not all football players are Michael Vick.

James on November 26, 2007 at 12:09 PM

ThackerAgency on November 26, 2007 at 11:36 AM

You just don’t like police officers, do you? And of course they should have been near the field…officers always are towards the end of the game.

JetBoy on November 26, 2007 at 12:10 PM

Simple case of mistaken identity.

The dog thought he was Michael Vick.

Labamigo on November 26, 2007 at 12:11 PM

police brutality at its finest.

ackrite55 on November 26, 2007 at 12:16 PM

I watched that game. Great weekend for football.

I call “ruffing”…

Or unnecessary ruffness.

In all fairness, it appeared that toward the end of the first clip, the dog was ejected.

Bigfoot on November 26, 2007 at 12:17 PM

Anchor: For more on the story, we join special sideline correspondent Roberta Aguilar. Roberta?

RA: Thanks, Chuck. I’m standing here with the dog who just perpetrated this shocking act before a national TV-viewing audience and a stadium full of spectators. Sparky, are you a football-player-biting-happy dog? Are you underfed? Have you never tasted a football player before?

Sparky: Grrrrrr….

RA: Back to you in the studio, Chuck.

I’m fine with that. It’s better than seeing USC simply inserted into the spot simply because they’re … USC. The two most deserving teams are currently sitting 1 and 2.

DON’T BITE ME BRO!

Heh.

My dog does the same thing. That dog wanted the glove.

Hening on November 26, 2007 at 12:32 PM

Wide receiver? Auburn was on defense during that play.

OhioCoastie on November 26, 2007 at 12:36 PM

He’s a DB.

Valiant on November 26, 2007 at 12:42 PM

Like I’ve said before the cops are out of control. What kind of idiot allows an attack dog that close to the field. Attack dogs should not be used for crowd control. The officer and his commander should be fired.

roux on November 26, 2007 at 12:56 PM

I completely agree!

I believe that police dogs are taught to grab clothing when attacking, which of course would include gloves.

Bigfoot on November 26, 2007 at 1:15 PM

Trainer….fired. Commander….fired. Dog…did his job…they are trained with men in padded suits and helmets.
Look…a bad guy…yum!

Cue up the Justice Brother Sharpton and Jackson

Kini on November 26, 2007 at 1:18 PM

Aren’t police dogs trained to strike if they’re threatened?

ThackerAgency on November 26, 2007 at 11:36 AM

Spoken like someone who has stereotyped all policemen and those who defend some of them in individual cases. Just because you can’t tell the difference between a traffic stop in which the motorist was at fault and a football game in which the police officer was at fault (for not keeping her dog in line) doesn’t mean that the rest of us can’t differentiate between the two situations.

Grow up.

Uh, yeah we are and it’s gonna be AWESOME!!

Let’s goooooooooooooo Mountaineers!

hollygolightly on November 26, 2007 at 2:04 PM

Oklahoma will handle Missouri, and Ohio State will get in to play West Virginia.

GO BUCKS!!!

Tom Blogical on November 26, 2007 at 2:24 PM

Look at it from the dog’s point of view. A man is running at your handler with his hand up. It’s a case of mistaken self-defense.

My dog bit my husband friend in the butt when he was “sneaking up behind him” in the garage. If it was a bad guy he would have been a hero.

The friend was ok about it….he was just happy that he turned around.

jjjen on November 26, 2007 at 3:24 PM

No Michael Vick joke? Football players 1, Dogs 1.

RightWinged on November 26, 2007 at 3:53 PM

Roll Tide.

EnochCain on November 26, 2007 at 4:29 PM

Its still “great to be an Auburn Tiger, I said its great to be an Auburn Tiger!!!”

War Eagle, Hey!

I know some nice neighborhoods in detroit were cops never go. Go visit there and let’s see how that turns out.

No, no way in h*ll the Sooners lose to Missouri.
Buckeyes and Mountaineers, bank on it.

lowandslow on November 26, 2007 at 6:12 PM

Where is Vick when ya need him?

I got bit in the Houston Intercontinental airport one time.

jjjen on November 26, 2007 at 3:24 PM

That’s how I see it–people need to keep in mind that the dog doesn’t know it’s at a football game, it just knows that there’s a lot of noise and people around, and some of them are running. One of them inadvertently ran too close with a hand out, and the dog reacted defensively according to its training. The handler should have been paying better attention, and I hope the player wasn’t actually hurt. But sticking your hand in a strange dog’s face is just never a good idea.

ReubenJCogburn on November 26, 2007 at 7:51 PM

Will the animal be tested for rabies, quarantined and then destroyed?

If that was my dog that is exactly what would happen.

Or maybe this?

I don’t blame the dog, I blame the handler 100%.

TwinkietheKid on November 26, 2007 at 8:25 PM

my goodness…lots of dog lovers on board tonight.
