Too bad to check: Disabled British vets jeered at swimming pool

Not the first we’ve heard of British soldiers being received coolly at home. Some examples are benign, some less so, but this one…
It can’t be true. Can it?
Injured soldiers who lost their limbs fighting for their country have been driven from a swimming pool training session by jeering members of the public…
The unpleasant scenes broke out at Leatherhead Leisure Centre in Surrey when the wounded veterans, who are at Headley Court Military Hospital, had to use the 25-metre public pool because the hydro-pool at the defence rehabilitation centre is not big enough for swimming.
The servicemen were about to begin their weekly swimming therapy in closed-off lanes when they were verbally abused by the swimmers.
One woman in her 30s was said to be infuriated by the lane closures saying the soldiers did not deserve to be there when she had paid.
It was also reported that others complained that limbless servicemen were scaring children at the centre.
The atmosphere was said to be so tense that the soldiers’ instructors removed them.
Update: The Daily Mail is reporting it too. Good lord.

This was reported in the Daily Mail, as well.
Pretty disgusting.

Oh. My. God. What the hell is wrong with these people? Have they lost their minds? It’s because of these brave Soldiers that this woman (b!tch) doesn’t have to wear a burka to the freakin’ pool! And she wants ‘em outta there? God helps us, the West is doomed. I pray I’m wrong and the West comes out of it’s coma, but it just doesn’t look good.

Almost makes me want to hop a plane across the pond and bitch-slap some of these people…
D2Boston on November 24, 2007 at 11:56 AM
Oh, I almost forgot … “We support the troops.” Uh huh.
Tony737 on November 24, 2007 at 11:57 AM
I am mortified.
…and the soldiers? Didn’t they pay with the limbs??? Stupid, selfish #$&*!
Zorro on November 24, 2007 at 11:58 AM
Keep on not spanking your children, libtards. Look where it gets us all.
TexasDan on November 24, 2007 at 12:00 PM
D2, what’s that say about a country when a guy in Boston, 2,000 miles away, supports that nations troops more than the people of that nation? The left has finally fallen off the edge of the world.

Those idiots are absolute scum bags . . . someone needs to slap the crap out out of them.

Rplat, don’t worry, their new islamic masters will do that soon.

“One woman in her 30s was said to be infuriated by the lane closures saying the soldiers did not deserve to be there when she had paid.”
“She’s my sister! She’s my daughter! She’s my sister! She’s my daughter!”
Scene from “China Town” that should be repeated for this twit.

From this report it seems that these are not “anti-military” comments so much, but more like old-fashioned stupidity combined with complete indifference to wounded vets. Deplorable, nonetheless.

Well we have our own idiots on this side of the pond too…sadly many of them are Senators and Congressmen.
So many people just don’t realize that there’s a movement out there that desires world domination…much like the Soviets during the Cold War. And as with the Islamists today, people didn’t believe the Soviets were a threat.
Today, we fight a different enemy, but with the same dominant goal. But so many are blind to it. And like the Cold War, the War on Terror could last decades.
There will always be ignorant, selfish, hypocrites out there. People who owe their very way of life to those who protect them. But they don’t see it.

Why do I feel that if a muslim woman went into the water with a full Burka, that would be perfectly alright
(or tickey-boo as the Brits would say).

The UK wants to die. There’s no other explanation for it.

Ignorance (or just plain stupidity) missing a great chance to teach their children what a HERO really IS. I look at the world today in total disbelief of the absurdity of it all. It’s like a bad episode of the Twilight Zone. WTF is going on?

To any Brits reading this….
Your heroes who were forced from the pool due to ingnorance need to be publicly honored. Its the least your Country can do for them.
SouthernPride on November 24, 2007 at 12:44 PM
I’m sure the older Brits who remember WWII are mortified by the younger generations. Sadly, it will probably take another German type invasaion to bring the realization that freedom ain’t free to the ingnorant babes of Britain.
SouthernPride on November 24, 2007 at 12:47 PM
You’re probably right, but they raised ‘em. Britain is only about one generation ahead of us in the race toward self-destruction.

This isn’t anti-military, it’s anti-humanity.

And they (anit-war kooks) are the compassionate ones?
El Guapo on November 24, 2007 at 2:55 PM
Far from being scary, it should have been a teachable moment for these children that these brave men sacrificed a part of themselves for them and for their country. What an opportunity squandered by these freedom haters.
ricelchew on November 24, 2007 at 2:59 PM
hey a story I linked :)
Glad to see HA on this.
Lord Nazh on November 24, 2007 at 3:45 PM
Of course it can. You don’t think the same thing would happen at pools near any major university in the US?
By the way, for anyone not aware, Red Eye regular Kevin Godlington runs a charity site for wounded British troops:
http://www.kevingodlington.com/
Or perhaps we should just call up ol’ John Smeaton and have him “put a boot in!”
RightWinged on November 24, 2007 at 4:29 PM
Heard this on Paul Harvey from his guest host.
His comment: That woman is upset they got free use when she paid….well, she should be thankful she doesn’t have to pay the way THEY did.
