Saudis: Did we mention that the gang-rape victim confessed to adultery?

Oh, that’s why they’re going to lash her to pieces.
If only we’d known!
The justice ministry said in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency that the woman had owned up to having an extramarital affair with the man in the car.
“She admitted to … exchanging sinful relations,” the statement said, adding the woman was in state of undress with the man in the car before the attack took place.
The woman and her alleged lover remained quiet about the attack, which was only reported to the authorities several months later when the woman’s husband received an email from an unidentified source informing him of the affair.
“She admitted to what happened and the husband then reported the incident three months after it happened,” the justice ministry said, adding it wanted to correct the “largely incorrect” details published in the media about the case…
The woman’s husband told local media that they would appeal, even though the judge had warned that the sentence could be increased again if she loses the appeal.
Let’s count the discrepancies. The Saudis say she was in a car cheating on her husband; media accounts say she and the man she was with were abducted from a mall. The Saudis say the evidence of the affair came to light three months after the incident; the CNN story says the incident happened in March 2006 and the victim wasn’t sentenced until November, in which case why wasn’t the adultery accounted for at the trial stage? The Saudis say it was her husband who turned her in; her husband has stood by her throughout the process, though, notwithstanding the cultural pressures he must be facing to treat her as a shamed or “ruined” woman.
Thanks to JWF for the tip. Exit question: Anyone think this is anything other than the flimsiest of pretexts to somehow, ahem, “justify” the elevated punishment after the fact? Which, I hasten to remind you, we already know the real reason for.

Animals.

Thanks for the link, AP. My stomach churns just thinking of the abuse this woman has suffered. This really is a travesty.
JammieWearingFool on November 24, 2007 at 8:13 PM
according to that saudi news the woman in question wasnt even married but rather just “engaged”
William Amos on November 24, 2007 at 8:15 PM
How do the men control the woman? They do know what life is like for women outside of SA.
JiangxiDad on November 24, 2007 at 8:17 PM
I can’t evenread the whole thing. Make me sick why don’t you…
Babs on November 24, 2007 at 8:30 PM
Why can’t we go to war with Saudi Arabia?
Now I could really get behind that.
No nation building stuff though.
Just the breaking part.
MB4 on November 24, 2007 at 8:31 PM
Ok. I’ll answer my own question. The revisions in the story are due to bad press from abroad being heard inside the country. They’re trying to offer additional justifications to the women inside the country as to why this girl deserves this. And that is because this being 2007, the women there are not only educated and aware, but complicit in this.
JiangxiDad on November 24, 2007 at 8:31 PM
I think its unfair to hold Saudi women complict in this. Remember they cant vote, or hold office or even drive a car.
Add to that they can be beaten by their husbands if the disagree with them. And the Mutawaa waits in the wings to prey upon them and catch them doing something “Un Islamic”
The whole entire system is set up to keep them in place
William Amos on November 24, 2007 at 8:50 PM
So if you see a couple having sex in a car, the line forms on the left?
What level of mentality does this society function on anyway?
It won’t matter, she’ll be dead.
How many lashes does the “Judge” (kidding right?) think a human can take before death occurs?
If they’re real lashes (you can bet they are) fifty will be pretty tough, two hundred?
Must be ceremonial.
Speakup on November 24, 2007 at 8:52 PM
No! No! No! Out oil benefactors can do no wrong.
BowHuntingTexas on November 24, 2007 at 9:02 PM
That should be Our / not Out.
BowHuntingTexas on November 24, 2007 at 9:03 PM
I have seen the future, and it isn’t Islamic.
profitsbeard on November 24, 2007 at 9:13 PM
They still have that 8th century Caveman Mentality but with their money and influence, most just look the other way. It is indeed, sick and twisted.
R D on November 24, 2007 at 9:30 PM
What every one must try to understand is that they are working under the strict orders of their GOD thru their profit MOHOMMAD. In their minds they have no say in the matter “their GOD dictated this in 500AD” done. If they do not make this judgment they defy god and spend eternity in hell.
allrsn on November 24, 2007 at 9:40 PM
We divested from apartheid South Africa, yet are unable to raise a word of condemnation against Saudi Arabia’s treatment of women and gays? It’s pretty clear which side of the American political spectrum is hypocritical here. Yet, the self-professed advocates of women and gays continue to support the that side.
thuja on November 24, 2007 at 9:50 PM
Actualy its interesting how the two sides of american politics handles this.
The Left wants to blame the Saudi Government. The right wants to blame Islam.
The Saudis use Islam to justify this action. So they do keep power by using this type of argument.
I think we on the right are correct in pointing out this isnt just a saudi Problem. Sharia laws are all over the middle east and everywhere in Islam. Changing the Saudi Government doesnt mean this will stop.
William Amos on November 24, 2007 at 10:01 PM
That’s right, we must try to understand people who follow the ramblings of a pedophile. I don’t think so!
R D on November 24, 2007 at 10:02 PM
How is this different from our own left who want to give you 200 lashes for using the N word or smoking or being overweight? Not that I agree with Islam’s treatment of women, just how is it different?
Buzzy on November 24, 2007 at 10:11 PM
Because, dumbass, the lashes are real and for being a victim.
R D on November 24, 2007 at 10:14 PM
Guess that shut them up.
R D on November 24, 2007 at 10:25 PM
Do you want another example of these peaceful people?
R D on November 24, 2007 at 10:30 PM
how about a w88 right up their arse? I’d support that.

allrsn on November 24, 2007 at 10:51 PM
Mo’s 9 year old bride. Or is that an inconvenient truth for you?
R D on November 24, 2007 at 10:56 PM
I wish that was the worst mo directed, but as bad as it is it is trival to the rest.
allrsn on November 24, 2007 at 11:05 PM
And NO TRUTH is inconvenient to me!
allrsn on November 24, 2007 at 11:06 PM
Well then. Either I misunderstood your first post, or you left of the /sarc tag. Or maybe you misunderstood me. I don’t have to try to understand cavemen.
R D on November 24, 2007 at 11:14 PM
Ah, so a rape victim was afraid to report her rape for months because she feared exactly what ended up happening.
Great coverage of this case at the NOW website.
Not.
raybury on November 24, 2007 at 11:32 PM
There was not sarc in my first quote only truth, what I call reality.
allrsn on November 24, 2007 at 11:37 PM
So Gang rape and worshiping a pedophile is OK with you? You need help.
R D on November 24, 2007 at 11:42 PM
Geeze! Where do these people come from?
R D on November 24, 2007 at 11:44 PM
Sharia lesson # 1:
Women need FOUR male eyewitnesses, unrelated to the event, to corroborate the women’s claim that she was raped.
Otherwise, if she falls short, she is effectively admitting to adultery.
Sad, but true.

Need help?
R D on November 25, 2007 at 12:09 AM
LOL I just scrolled back and where did you question me?? The only thing I see is you using emotion to interpet fact. Where is your logic? Why is it so difficult for you to read?
Why do you think islam is the same enviroment as you? or the USA for that matter?
allrsn on November 25, 2007 at 12:10 AM
Got an answer?
R D on November 25, 2007 at 12:13 AM
Are you so shallow as to think the entire world will think JUST LIKE YOU???? Sorry to inform you, that is not how it works. You have your beliefs (for reasons unknown) and islam has its beliefs (from the koran) why is this so hard for you???
allrsn on November 25, 2007 at 12:14 AM
And why are you unable to read simple statements?
allrsn on November 25, 2007 at 12:15 AM
See how you are!!! Its not about me!!!!! OR you!!!! Its about them!!!!
allrsn on November 25, 2007 at 12:17 AM
THE POINT IS THEM NOT US
allrsn on November 25, 2007 at 12:18 AM
Why can’t you answer a simple question?
R D on November 25, 2007 at 12:22 AM
O o a leftie. I pity your ignorance. I cannot help you, you are own your own.
This has nothing to do with what I or YOU believe. It has to do with WHAT THEY believe.
end
allrsn on November 25, 2007 at 12:24 AM
Why can’t you answer the question?
R D on November 25, 2007 at 12:30 AM
See Ya… Troll.
R D on November 25, 2007 at 12:31 AM
end? That’s gotta be a tree huggin’ bitch.
R D on November 25, 2007 at 1:27 AM
Whatever…….
R D on November 25, 2007 at 1:28 AM
Cease fire, please … you are shooting at people who agree with you.
Yes, the religion of submission was founded by a pedo. Allrsn was simply making a “know your enemy” statement.
If you know what the “logic” is for their insane decisions, you can predict what they will do in a given situation … and use this knowledge to help you kill or thwart them.
I have read the Sura, the Hadith, and the Koran … not because I am an Islamist nut-job, but because I want to be able to predict how my enemy will react in a given situation.
Kristopher on November 25, 2007 at 1:31 AM
Can you answer the question for her?
R D on November 25, 2007 at 1:40 AM
Nope … only she can do that … and probably won’t, since you decided that heaping on abuse was more important than persuasion.
Kristopher on November 25, 2007 at 1:43 AM
Heaping on abuse. You’re pathetic. I asked one question.
R D on November 25, 2007 at 1:47 AM
You are apparently more interested in attacking that commenter than discussing Islam’s evil.
I find your penchant for abusing people who are on our side boring and tiresome, and will reward it properly with indifference.
Get back to me when you wish to discuss how evil Islam is.
Kristopher on November 25, 2007 at 1:57 AM
Asking a question is attacking a commenter? Did you read the whole thread?
R D on November 25, 2007 at 2:03 AM
Here’s the first comment by allrsn. Show me where we are on the same side.
R D on November 25, 2007 at 2:10 AM
Didn’t think you could answer that. “Penchant for abusing people”? Wow, just wow. A penchant, one question makes it a penchant for attacking.
R D on November 25, 2007 at 2:19 AM
Before I knew this, I just thought they were medieval sadists.
Now realising that the woman was an adulterer, I fully support the judges decision to whip her to death.
uptight on November 25, 2007 at 3:02 AM
And Jesus said?
Wade on November 25, 2007 at 10:53 AM
What allrsn wrote is pretty much what Laura Bush said during her visit to the Middle East. Something like, it is their religion so everything is pretty much okay with her. That was just sickening to me. It was also sickening that she wore that stupid scarf on her head. If she had some visiting Saudis to the US would she demand that they take their head coveromgs off? Not a chance!
Neocon Peg on November 25, 2007 at 11:13 AM
oops, should have been “coverings”
Neocon Peg on November 25, 2007 at 11:13 AM
I don’t think allrsn was defending them in the least. I think allrsn was stating a FACT. Because that IS how they think, now I’m not excusing it, I think it’s twisted and backwards, but it is what was laid down by their prophet who was a power hungry, militaristic perv. and he was going on direct orders from Allah himself. And yes, one of the worst things you can do within Islam is nothing when there is a perceived insult, or digression, especially coming from a woman.
4shoes on November 25, 2007 at 12:06 PM
Apparently the ex-boyfriend in the car was also raped by the gang. I haven’t heard of any sentence or lashings for him.
MRegine on November 25, 2007 at 12:22 PM
Since when have theocratic run countries been oppressive to women? :(
Islam despises the feminine and oppresses it in every way. They have no real sense of justice either. It’s crude, it’s typically over the top, and it’s vastly inferior and infantile to the modern age.
I wonder how “modern” Saudi Arabia will be in 100 years when their oil runs out. Back to the 9th Century, perhaps?
Weebork on November 25, 2007 at 1:06 PM
Ann Coulter said it best don’t you think?
Snake307 on November 25, 2007 at 1:30 PM
It is starting to sound like the only rational choice.
Jaibones on November 25, 2007 at 1:37 PM
Having lived in Saudi for 4 years (1996-2000), I absolutely agree with Ann Coulter.
Muslims live in a state of total terror. Their entire social structure is based on shame and what others think of them. This is the foundation of the “ud” or Islamic code of honor (what passes for honor for them), and leads to female genital mutilation and honor killings. They are no less human than the rest of us, and many of them are terrific people, but they live in a state of terror from birth. Only the most narcissistic of them subscribe to their religion in heart and soul.
This news report of a rape victim being awarded 200 lashes is nothing compared to what happens every day in Saudi Arabia. Nobody who knows me would ever call me a feminist, but at the very least I regard women as human beings. The Saudis consider women to be nothing more than livestock. And to the extent I can claim to have any sense of humanity, I am compelled to detest Saudi Arabian society. It is the most retrograde influence on the planet, and it is at the heart of all Islamist supremacism.
Standing next to a Saudi, a Klansman looks like Mr. Rogers.
thejackal on November 25, 2007 at 2:40 PM
LOL!
Dude!
What animals. This poor woman needs to have a SEAL team sent in to break her out of prison and bring her back to Israel.
KMC1 on November 25, 2007 at 3:52 PM
There has been a misunderstanding here. It seems to me that allrsn meant “understand” in the sense of Robert Spencer understanding the Koran whereas R D thought him to mean “understand” in the phony, apologist we-must-address-the-root-causes sense. So a storm in a teacup then.
