Props to the cop. Not for his restraint, but for his ability to keep a straight face. I would have totally lost it laughing, especially when he went nuts over the price of the ticket.

On a side note, we can see the kind of people that got Billy-Boy elected in the first place. I always thought he attracted the intellectual crowd. LOL

Someone above said the cop shouldn’t “take it personally.” Really?

Yes, really.

It was meant personally.

No, it wasn't the guy is pissed off about getting a ticket. He's pissed at the cop for doing his job. The cop understands that and really doesn't care how worked up the guy gets. He continues to do his job and to do it properly. And he gets it done...without laughing in the guy's face, which must have been exceedingly difficult.

Why shouldn’t the dipstick in the car be held accountable for his words?

Held accountable how? For what, exactly? To whom?

I'm not sure that remaining calm in all situations is the highest standard of police behavior.

omg, I remember this one now. Classic. Deadpan patronising sarcasm for the win! Certainly been the only thing that has gotten me through things that aren't even close to that level of abuse. I swear police officers (and flight ticket booth attendants, come to think of it) must have some of the toughest jobs in the world

As soon as he said 'if you don't pick this up sir I'm going to summons you for littering' I remembered this. Classic++

Why people expect the police to act like inhuman automatons is beyond me. And yet people wonder why noone wants to join law enforcement and the like..

I've never seen Nahm from "This Old House" get so worked up before! He's usually so composed on TV.

That was not real.

You got proof? I work with officers just like this everyday (I am not one, however). None of them would be clever enough to spout off the way this driver does, even for training purposes. He's the real deal, apparently, as indicated by the earlier comment that

there is update footage for this video… they interview the guy at his house one year later… he feels like an ass rightfully so.

Do you have a real brain, or is it showtime for a$$hole apologists?

Funny how you nitwits manage not to mention the troglodyte dip$hit that provoked the incident.

By nature, a person expects negative consequences when they behave like a jerk. If there are no consequences, that expectation gradually dissolves, and the jerkish behavior becomes more prevalent.

I can't believe you people fell for this. This was a training film. The guy in the car was a state trooper acting like a nutjob. If that really happened the officer would have rightfully called in an ambulance with extra strength restraints. They would have put that guy in a straight jacket and not let him drive off behind the wheel of a car. That was not real.

Yes, this is a very true video. Everybody who's gone through a police academy has seen this in a training class, but not for the reasons you'd think.

The good, the bad and the ugly...
What this Officer did was good.
What the Utah cop did was bad.
The ugly...it's all about the Benjamins

Ex: When I was pulled over here in a town of Grose Tete many years ago, it seemed mighty suspicious that the address to send the fine to was not the court house address. About a year later, the traffic judge and several officers were charged with embezzlement and breaking a whole lot of laws...the address was a registered address of the judge.

When I was given a ticket in the town of Washington here in La, I called and asked the clerk of court what I could do to make sure it didn't go on my record, she flat out said "send a few bucks more and write a letter asking it not to be on your record. 75 in a 70, $20 extra and a letter stating I was not familiar with the area....not on my record.
New Orleans is not the only corrupt city here in Louisiana!

Look at the size of that trooper,I sure wouldn’t be mouthin’ off to a guy that size!

That's what I thought when I saw this...he looks like he has muscles in his turds...and ice in his veins.

He looks like he realized he was dealing with an unhinged geek right from the start. It's amazing he remained so calm throughout...as if he was thinking of the list of groceries he needed to pick up after work while this nutball ranted.

I bet he never considered running into a pre-BDS liberal.

The guy seemed to blame everybody else for his problems, including his wife at one point.

10 bucks says the guy had a grabber during the 2000 election recount.

This video is at least ten years old because that's how long ago it was when I saw it the first time. They didn't have tasers back then or at least they were not standard issue to the police yet.

This police officer is a good guy and what all police should be. The old guy in the red truck was nuts, but not dangerous. He surely heaped more than enough abuse on that police officer that he could have been arrested, but what good would have have done?

Did you note that the red truck guy was a Democrat, he was talking about Bill Clinton and how he was going to fix everything for the working man. Heh.

The State o' Maine has a long tradition of eccentrics(crazy old coots) and this one sounds like a true "down-easter". I believe the State Troopers get a full week of special training specifically for situations like this. The coot was probably still cussin' about it an hour later.

What a whining, sniveling little crybaby. Always pointing the finger of blame at someone else... never accountable for his own actions. Typical of a Clinton supporting 'working man'. Jeez, grow some onions and take some self-accountability and you, too - if you work very hard a it - may someday become a conservative.

BUT!!! these guys are just doing their job, they are police and they don’t deserve to be disrespected. This guy should have ended up in jail or at least another few tickets for being an a$$hole.

Generally, nobody deserves to be disrespected (though some people really ask for it.) But there is no right to not be disrespected and it is no crime to disrespect someone. The job of the police is to enforce the law, not to enforce respect for the police.

The cop in this video clearly understands that, and he doesn't take the nitwit's ranting personally. They are police. They are public servants. They are not gods and they are not our overlords. Every power they have derives from the people they are paid to protect and serve. They have a duty to treat those people with respect, even when they break the law. Of course, if you get violent with a cop, all bets are off and you deserve the lumps you take. But other than that, professionalism and courtesy should be their norm. This cop is an excellent example of how to do it right.

You might want to punch an a$$hole like that driver right in his stupid face, but you don't do it because of your commitment to the law you're supposed to be upholding.

I saw this before! This is a real officer! A man of character! With the authority this trooper had yet he was able to remain calm shows he has nothing to prove to himself or anyone! He handled this situation well. A weaker minded man,, someone with an inferiority complex or self doubt could have taken all those insults personally and would have allowed that situation to get completely out of control. He is the kind of officer you could trust to handle a real crisis under fire!

I don’t understand why police take the reaction to them personally when they are generally the catalyst of the negative situation in the first place (especially pulling someone over for speeding).

first of I think you are right that many feel it is highway robbery. I have seen towns (Barker/Somerset, NY being the most egregious) that use it exclusively to produce revenue by dropping the speed limit drastically along a stretch of rural highway then sitting there and nailing everybody that misses the one sign.

BUT!!! these guys are just doing their job, they are police and they don't deserve to be disrespected. This guy should have ended up in jail or at least another few tickets for being an a$$hole. I HATED the police every time I was pulled over... but I was always respectful and I always realized I was the one speeding. I just felt that maybe they had better things to do than stop me for going 10 over when I wasn't causing any trouble and there were real criminals out there... but that is not the cops fault and it certinly doesn't give me the right to act like an @$$.
