I thought the words ‘Bill Clinton’ were synonymous with ‘content warning.’

there is update footage for this video… they interview the guy at his house one year later… he feels like an ass rightfully so.
Kaptain Amerika on November 23, 2007 at 1:36 PM
This guy should train Utah Highway Patrol officers.
windbag on November 23, 2007 at 1:39 PM
I think I’ve seen this before on TV, I think they said the cop won something for his handling of it.
Bad Candy on November 23, 2007 at 1:44 PM
That cop has a little too much patience if you ask me…A tasing would have been justified (and fun) in this case too…
canvas on November 23, 2007 at 1:45 PM
My highest respect to this peace officer. I hope he makes Director of the Highway Patrol some day.
infidel on November 23, 2007 at 1:50 PM
That is a professional. Maintaining control of a situation includes maintaining control of yourself. That guy does a bang up job.
Pablo on November 23, 2007 at 2:00 PM
He probably would have been… had it not been 1992.
RightWinged on November 23, 2007 at 2:00 PM
Simply hilarious. The cop must have ice instead of blood. How he was able to keep his cool is just amazing.
madne0 on November 23, 2007 at 2:06 PM
That clip’s been around for years. A true classic!
Amazing how high that guy’s voice gets.
CurtZHP on November 23, 2007 at 2:07 PM
That’s just too good! LMAO!!!
Joshua P. Allem on November 23, 2007 at 2:07 PM
Hillary Clinton needs get this guy on the trail with her, quick!
terryannonline on November 23, 2007 at 2:07 PM
Heh…now that’s how a cop should behave in the face of citizen asshattery!
flipflop on November 23, 2007 at 2:08 PM
Wow.
More than a tasing, I would have loved to see the officer pull him over again for taking off the way he did, or speeding away. The dude would have exploded.

I’ve seen this one before, but with only the bleeps.
I’ve always thought the cop musta took took three or four really big hits, you know the kine Bill didn’t inhale, before pulling this guy over.
Way laid back and relaxed. Whereas the driver, obviously somewhere in the Northeast, perhaps Massachusetts, with that Pepperidge Farm accent is having a major cow.
I don’t think tazers were around then less distributed to cops.
Kini on November 23, 2007 at 2:29 PM
Why are people all “about the law” until they are caught breaking it, then they claim to be a victim.
Liberalism is a mental disorder.
El Guapo on November 23, 2007 at 2:32 PM
Yeah, he sure did. I don’t know if I could have done it. And you’ll notice that he got him to do exactly what he wanted him to do, including getting out of the car twice to pick up the paper he’d thrown down, without incident.
Pablo on November 23, 2007 at 2:33 PM
Kini They had tasers back then. They used on in the movie “Men at Work” Don’t know why that just popped in my head. And they had stun guns before tasers came out.
El Guapo on November 23, 2007 at 2:34 PM
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!!!
Bad Candy on November 23, 2007 at 2:41 PM
This was a classic on the ‘Wildest Police Videos’ set. IIRC, they tracked the guy down a few years later, and he was pretty embarrassed about it. The cop was pretty cool about it too.
bikermailman on November 23, 2007 at 2:44 PM
Are we sure that’s not Ron Paul?
Pablo on November 23, 2007 at 2:46 PM

LOL
I almost sprayed my coffee on that one! I could see him reacting like that for some reason.
El Guapo on November 23, 2007 at 2:54 PM
Oh My Gosh. The driver’s high-pitched squealing after learning the price of the ticket was HILARIOUS. But the blood went out of my face when the guy yelled “a*****e” at the cop the first time. What professionalism by the officer. He sure did deserve an award for that.
His little wave and “Goodbye” at the end, after the guy leaves, are priceless.
inviolet on November 23, 2007 at 2:55 PM
I’ve seen this many times,it’s a classic.
Look at the size of that trooper,I sure wouldn’t be mouthin’ off to a guy that size!
Frantic Freddie on November 23, 2007 at 3:01 PM
i kid! i kid!
jummy on November 23, 2007 at 3:09 PM
Gawd. The apologists for the tased a$$hole are back again. Must all have the day off from Dairy Queen.
This trooper certainly has patience. But the world would be a better place if he had calmly taught a lesson to this hysterical excuse for a human. Which lesson? “Screaming like a psycho at law enforcement is a good way to get your face rearranged and your rap sheet appended.” Because there were no consequences, the guy will likely do the same thing (or worse) to the next trooper who pulls him over.
Splashman on November 23, 2007 at 3:13 PM
Splashman
are you implying that people who get away with rudeness and disrespect are more prone to repeat that behavior? That is the same arguement I use to justifiy positive and NEGATIVE re-enforcement/discipline on kids, and the war on terror for that matter exept they cut off heads and blow up children (intentionally).
This is why good old fashioned butt-kickings should not be grounds to sew. If you run your mouth, you have it coming. I do believe the cop could have cited him for that immature behavior as well. But he chose not to.
El Guapo on November 23, 2007 at 3:23 PM
And please dont insult Dairy Queen like that. Their burgers are the best! And so are their blizzards!
Relating them to McDonald’s employees who do a half-@$$ job and dont care about the quality of their work and then have the audacity to wonder why they never get a raise or promotion is better.
El Guapo on November 23, 2007 at 3:26 PM
El Guapo: I think the word you want is “sue”, not “sew”. :)
Yes, you understood me correctly, and yes, that’s basic human psychology. By nature, a person expects negative consequences when they behave like a jerk. If there are no consequences, that expectation gradually dissolves, and the jerkish behavior becomes more prevalent.
I’m certainly not going to fault the trooper (“I can’t win — if I tase him I get immature morons complaining I’m a fascist; if I don’t tase him they complain I’m too soft!”). On the contrary, he is to be commended for keeping his cool in the face of extraordinary nincompoopery. But that doesn’t mean his response should be held up as the example to which all troopers should aspire.
Splashman on November 23, 2007 at 3:36 PM
Being a douche bag isn’t a crime, you can tell PD what you think of them as long as you are obeying their lawful commands.
liquidflorian on November 23, 2007 at 3:40 PM
I agree, even if it dose turn out to be a good tase, I don’t think that is how to handle a traffic stop.

I hope he won a brand new super-duper high voltage big jolt taser. Heh heh
abinitioadinfinitum on November 23, 2007 at 3:57 PM
If I tell a officer giving me a citation his mother was a hamster and his farther smelt of elderberries, that isn’t a crime and if I’m charged with anything that particular statement would have no relevance to the crime.
liquidflorian on November 23, 2007 at 3:58 PM
That was not my first thought, but you are surely right. The cop was remarkable, and tasing this overwrought suicide candidate would not have produced a better outcome.
Haven’t laughed like that in years…
Jaibones on November 23, 2007 at 4:02 PM
Was this a real stop or is it showtime for trainees?
If it is a training film there’s a Utah Cop that could sure use a refresher.
Speakup on November 23, 2007 at 4:10 PM
Do you have a real brain, or is it showtime for a$$hole apologists?
Funny how you nitwits manage not to mention the troglodyte dip$hit that provoked the incident.

Your arrogant superiority complex makes it obvious that you are the royal asshole among these commenters.
infidel4life on November 23, 2007 at 4:38 PM
Who is making that complain, Splashman? It seems to be you.
Keeping your cool and maintaining the peace to the best of your ability is exactly the example that officers should aspire to. If that seems like too much trouble, you shouldn’t be a cop. Cops should work on reason and logic with the public interest in mind, not on ego and emotion.
Pablo on November 23, 2007 at 4:40 PM
+1…. Internet toughguy splashman can’t handle difference of opinion. Just get him talking about Macs.
liquidflorian on November 23, 2007 at 4:42 PM
Yes it does. The difference in this cop and the taser Utah cop is that this cop did not take the situation personally. Cops should understand that many civilians consider a traffic stop to be akin to a highway robbery. It is very little different than someone with a gun saying ‘give me 300 dollars’ and you have to give it to them.
This cop understood that. The driver may have been a nice guy, but put in a situation like that, he’ll respond negatively.
This cop should be how other cops should handle themselves. This driver was awful too, but the cop did not take it personal. If they met in another setting, the two could be good friends.
I don’t understand why police take the reaction to them personally when they are generally the catalyst of the negative situation in the first place (especially pulling someone over for speeding).
ThackerAgency on November 23, 2007 at 4:55 PM
I was surprised that first slap at the trooper, out of the car window, didn’t get him arrested for assulting an officer.
As for the end, he risked getting a ticket for not signaling before entering the highway, to say nothing of not checking mirrors. There were lots of opportunities to expand the charges. This cop was quite patient and professional, as most are.

You know what they say…
liquidflorian on November 23, 2007 at 6:05 PM
first of I think you are right that many feel it is highway robbery. I have seen towns (Barker/Somerset, NY being the most egregious) that use it exclusively to produce revenue by dropping the speed limit drastically along a stretch of rural highway then sitting there and nailing everybody that misses the one sign.
BUT!!! these guys are just doing their job, they are police and they don’t deserve to be disrespected. This guy should have ended up in jail or at least another few tickets for being an a$$hole. I HATED the police every time I was pulled over… but I was always respectful and I always realized I was the one speeding. I just felt that maybe they had better things to do than stop me for going 10 over when I wasn’t causing any trouble and there were real criminals out there… but that is not the cops fault and it certinly doesn’t give me the right to act like an @$$.
BadBrad on November 23, 2007 at 6:14 PM
I saw this before! This is a real officer! A man of character! With the authority this trooper had yet he was able to remain calm shows he has nothing to prove to himself or anyone! He handled this situation well. A weaker minded man,, someone with an inferiority complex or self doubt could have taken all those insults personally and would have allowed that situation to get completely out of control. He is the kind of officer you could trust to handle a real crisis under fire!
JellyToast on November 23, 2007 at 6:24 PM
Generally, nobody deserves to be disrespected (though some people really ask for it.) But there is no right to not be disrespected and it is no crime to disrespect someone. The job of the police is to enforce the law, not to enforce respect for the police.
The cop in this video clearly understands that, and he doesn’t take the nitwit’s ranting personally. They are police. They are public servants. They are not gods and they are not our overlords. Every power they have derives from the people they are paid to protect and serve. They have a duty to treat those people with respect, even when they break the law. Of course, if you get violent with a cop, all bets are off and you deserve the lumps you take. But other than that, professionalism and courtesy should be their norm. This cop is an excellent example of how to do it right.
You might want to punch an a$$hole like that driver right in his stupid face, but you don’t do it because of your commitment to the law you’re supposed to be upholding.
Pablo on November 23, 2007 at 6:48 PM
What a whining, sniveling little crybaby. Always pointing the finger of blame at someone else… never accountable for his own actions. Typical of a Clinton supporting ‘working man’. Jeez, grow some onions and take some self-accountability and you, too – if you work very hard a it – may someday become a conservative.
rocksandbroncs on November 23, 2007 at 7:01 PM
The State o’ Maine has a long tradition of eccentrics(crazy old coots) and this one sounds like a true “down-easter”. I believe the State Troopers get a full week of special training specifically for situations like this. The coot was probably still cussin’ about it an hour later.
TBinSTL on November 23, 2007 at 7:25 PM
This video is at least ten years old because that’s how long ago it was when I saw it the first time. They didn’t have tasers back then or at least they were not standard issue to the police yet.
This police officer is a good guy and what all police should be. The old guy in the red truck was nuts, but not dangerous. He surely heaped more than enough abuse on that police officer that he could have been arrested, but what good would have have done?
Did you note that the red truck guy was a Democrat, he was talking about Bill Clinton and how he was going to fix everything for the working man. Heh.
Maxx on November 23, 2007 at 7:45 PM
That’s what I thought when I saw this…he looks like he has muscles in his turds…and ice in his veins.
He looks like he realized he was dealing with an unhinged geek right from the start. It’s amazing he remained so calm throughout…as if he was thinking of the list of groceries he needed to pick up after work while this nutball ranted.
I bet he never considered running into a pre-BDS liberal.
The guy seemed to blame everybody else for his problems, including his wife at one point.
10 bucks says the guy had a grabber during the 2000 election recount.

The good, the bad and the ugly…
What this Officer did was good.
What the Utah cop did was bad.
The ugly…it’s all about the Benjamins
Ex: When I was pulled over here in a town of Grose Tete many years ago, it seemed mighty suspicious that the address to send the fine to was not the court house address. About a year later, the traffic judge and several officers were charged with embezzlement and breaking a whole lot of laws…the address was a registered address of the judge.
When I was given a ticket in the town of Washington here in La, I called and asked the clerk of court what I could do to make sure it didn’t go on my record, she flat out said “send a few bucks more and write a letter asking it not to be on your record. 75 in a 70, $20 extra and a letter stating I was not familiar with the area….not on my record.
New Orleans is not the only corrupt city here in Louisiana!

Actually, it’s exactly like being the parent of a hormonal teenager. I go through this same routine on a daily basis.

What is that? A skit from Saturday Night Live? That has to be a hoax; it’s way too wild to be real.
paul006 on November 23, 2007 at 11:09 PM
Yes, this is a very true video. Everybody who’s gone through a police academy has seen this in a training class, but not for the reasons you’d think.
MsUnderestimated on November 24, 2007 at 12:44 AM
I can’t believe you people fell for this. This was a training film. The guy in the car was a state trooper acting like a nutjob. If that really happened the officer would have rightfully called in an ambulance with extra strength restraints. They would have put that guy in a straight jacket and not let him drive off behind the wheel of a car. That was not real.

I’ve never seen Nahm from “This Old House” get so worked up before! He’s usually so composed on TV.
You got proof? I work with officers just like this everyday (I am not one, however). None of them would be clever enough to spout off the way this driver does, even for training purposes. He’s the real deal, apparently, as indicated by the earlier comment that

Ah, he’s a Democrat.

georgej on November 24, 2007 at 7:12 AM
omg, I remember this one now. Classic. Deadpan patronising sarcasm for the win! Certainly been the only thing that has gotten me through things that aren’t even close to that level of abuse. I swear police officers (and flight ticket booth attendants, come to think of it) must have some of the toughest jobs in the world
As soon as he said ‘if you don’t pick this up sir I’m going to summons you for littering’ I remembered this. Classic++
Why people expect the police to act like inhuman automatons is beyond me. And yet people wonder why noone wants to join law enforcement and the like..
Reaps on November 24, 2007 at 8:05 AM
I’m not sure that remaining calm in all situations is the highest standard of police behavior.
Someone above said the cop shouldn’t “take it personally.” Really? It was meant personally. Why shouldn’t the dipstick in the car be held accountable for his words?
TexasDan on November 24, 2007 at 11:57 AM
Tased?!?!?!??!
He should have been LAWed!!!!!!!!
Shy Guy on November 24, 2007 at 12:55 PM
Yes, really.
No, it wasn’t the guy is pissed off about getting a ticket. He’s pissed at the cop for doing his job. The cop understands that and really doesn’t care how worked up the guy gets. He continues to do his job and to do it properly. And he gets it done…without laughing in the guy’s face, which must have been exceedingly difficult.
Held accountable how? For what, exactly? To whom?
Pablo on November 24, 2007 at 3:22 PM
Props to the cop. Not for his restraint, but for his ability to keep a straight face. I would have totally lost it laughing, especially when he went nuts over the price of the ticket.
On a side note, we can see the kind of people that got Billy-Boy elected in the first place. I always thought he attracted the intellectual crowd. LOL
