And CNN wonders why people questions their objectivity.

I'm not sure that the audience itself was inappropriate. It's a Democratic primary and it's fairly obvious that the interest of most Democrat voters are different than most Republican voters, even in terms of what issues are important. And it should be surprising to no one that the people who go to the effort of going to the debate are party activists--who may very well be undecided about who to vote for in the primary.

It strikes me that the danger here is to the Democrats is that they may not get out of touch with the issues that many voters care about. Most Democratic activists don't have the concerns about immigration that a large majority in both parties do. Thus, Hilary and Obama flub questions about illegal immigration. Of course, the same thing happens to the Republicans. For instance, Thompson defended how the Republicans dealt with the Terry Shavio case--a decision about as popular as illegal immigrants, though a little less salient.

The real question here for parties is how do we inform the primary voters about their options in the debate (and primary in general), but also have the candidates keep an eye on the concerns of the less involved voting public.

All that said, it does seem to me that CNN should be honest about the audience. Wolf's use of "undecided" was misleading at best.
