Hate crimes against Muslims dwarfed by hate crimes against Jews

posted at 1:00 pm on November 19, 2007 by Bryan

Robert Spencer took a look at FBI hate crime stats for 2006. What he found will probably shock the mau mauers at CAIR.

Anti-Black 3,136
Anti-Jewish 1,027
Anti-White 1,008
Anti-Male Homosexual 881
Anti-Hispanic 770
Anti-Female Homosexual 192
Anti-Islamic 191

The number of hate crimes against Muslims is about one-fifth the number of similar crimes against Jews, and at about the same ratio to anti-White hate crimes.

Muslims invented hate crimes….

Jews control the crime stats. You can’t fool me.

The Race Card on November 19, 2007 at 1:05 PM

I’ll bet a fair percentage of those anti-Jewish hate crimes were done by Muslims.

I’ll bet its more than the 191 anti-Muslim crimes that were reported.

Don’t want to pour water on this, but there aren’t too many Muslims in the US, regardless of what CAIR likes to claim.

You’d have to know what percentage of the pop each group represents to make some sense of these numbers.

JiangxiDad on November 19, 2007 at 1:09 PM

So called “hate crime laws” will be the death of free speech. Let’s punish the act and not the thought…. OK ?

Maxx on November 19, 2007 at 1:09 PM

CAIR will probably try and argue that this number does not accurately reflect the the number of hate crimes committed on Muslims because the Muslim victims of hate crimes felt they could not report these crimes to a government that was against them already – and that’s why they are pushing Muslims to report hate crimes committed against them.

Rick on November 19, 2007 at 1:09 PM

But you must understand, hate crimes against Muslims are ten times worse, therefore their tally is 1910!
Do the Muslim math.

Wow…anti-white hate crimes are that high? Wait until CACR gets hold of that little factoid!

This is nothing new, nor a novel discovery. In fact, the numbers and the ratio of outpacing of anti-Semitic hate crimes versus “anti-Muslim” crimes have pretty much been this way every year since 9/11, as I’ve repeatedly written on my site and in various articles. They just whine louder and louder every single year and more so than anyone else. The fact is that the Muslim numbers are exaggerated from even the actual numbers of hate crimes against them, since every little paper cut is a hate crime against them.

Debbie Schlussel on November 19, 2007 at 1:11 PM

Here is the real disparity.
For Anti Islam crimes 156 Incidents 147 Known Offenders
For Anti Jewish crimes 967 Incidents 362 Known Offenders

Looks like they are pretty good at identifying the offenders of the religion of peace™ while not so much for the worlds oldest religion. Gee I wonder why that is?

I am not surprised. Will CAIR be concerned for the welfare of the Jews? Somehow I doubt it as I have a good idea where the hate crimes against the Jews came from.

Yeah, this throws a wrench into CAIR’s claims there are 7 million Muslims in the US and that they are regularly targeted for “hate crimes”. The percentage would be even more extraordinarily low. I’m pretty sure there are about 3 million Muslims and 9 million Jews in the US, which would still make the ratio of crimes agaist Jews considerably higher if these numbers are right.

According to Wikipedia, there are 6.15 million Jews in the United States. In 2005, Encyclopedia Britannica found 4.7 million Muslims. The number of Muslims currently in the US is disputed, but believed to be somewhere in that area or higher.

Yes there are too many Muslims in the US. They are happy to be a part of the illegal immigrant population here.

saiga on November 19, 2007 at 1:20 PM

It should be noted, however, that Pew found 2.4 million Muslims. That’s somewhat hard to believe based on CAIR’s own numbers, as well as the fact that at least 2 other (EB and J. Ilyas Ba-Yunus) found higher numbers in earlier years. Also in 2002, the CIA World Factbook put it at 1% of the population, which would’ve already been higher than Pew’s estimate.

amerpundit on November 19, 2007 at 1:21 PM

We need to work on our numbers.
I’d like to see.

Anti-Black 0
Anti-Jewish 0
Anti-White 0
Anti-Male Homosexual 0
Anti-Hispanic 0
Anti-Female Homosexual 0
Anti-Islamofascist 10,000

TheSitRep on November 19, 2007 at 1:22 PM

In scrolling through the various reports I noticed that Muslims are easily intimidated. Question: How come there is no sub category showing which groups commit the hate crimes against another group. I mean it is pretty much assumed that the blacks suffer at the hands of whites, although that is probably incorrect and you might be surprised at the rate of Hispanic/Black incidents. So for crimes committed against Jews who did it? Same for crimes committed against the Islamic sissies.

LakeRuins on November 19, 2007 at 1:13 PM

Actually, it’s even stranger than that. Here’s the definition of “known offender:”

2 The term known offender does not imply that the identity of the suspect is known, but only that an attribute of the suspect has been identified, which distinguishes him/her from an unknown offender.

I’m not sure what that means. Does it mean that crimes against Muslims are more face-to-face, so that they can identify at least one characteristic, while the crimes against Jews are more “anonymous?”

CA, #1
NJ
MI
NY
MA
VA
OH
TX
FL
MD

Now I see a pattern and of course TX is in there just to bust it up. If you live in a Blue state you are more likely to be the victim of a hate crime.
How’s that for a headline?

LakeRuins on November 19, 2007 at 1:35 PM

I’m going to have to assume that the FBI did their due diligence and included only those acts that qualified as legitimate hate crimes. CAIR’s definition of anti-Muslim hate crime is rather loose.

I believe that.

And Jailbones, you might be interested in knowing that many of the hate crimes alleged to have been perpetrated against blacks aren’t necessarily perpetrated by whites. I suspect that particular bit of knowledge might tone down your long-demonstrated belief that all of us (blacks) hate all of you (whites) and that we’re all lying when we say that someone has committed an anti-black “hate” crime.

BKennedy on November 19, 2007 at 2:10 PM

All those #s are probably ridiculously low. I was the victim of a hate crime several years ago and I doubt I was one in 1,000. The police probably don’t classify most hate crimes as hate crimes. I saw a hate crime against a Muslim myself in 2003. Was minor, but bothered the heck out of me. I wouldn’t trust any of those statistics.

RW Wacko on November 19, 2007 at 2:18 PM

I wonder if gay advocacy groups dispute these numbers due to the potential for hate crimes against gay men to be sexual in nature and therefore underreported. I wonder if I would report a crime that highlighted my sexual habits and/or apetite.

I’m really curious if there are any Hot Air readers who consider themselves to be racist. Is racist behavior a non-starter among your friends? If you are racist do you feel it is justified or is it something you battle?

My answers:
I’m not racist and consider it a moral failing.
I have friends whom I would consider racist, but racist behavior is not acceptable in my presence. I’ve stuck my neck out many times against individual bigots. I equally vocal in my personal life against race-baiting.

I’m not sure it’s all that important. Ibrahim Hooper’s sniveling could make you want to travel to give him a beat-down, irrelevant of his being a Muslim.

And for Hoop, my just using the word “sniveling” would be sufficient to be a hate crime.

According to table 4, the breakdown of the anti-Islamic incidents is as follows: 54 were assault, 79 were intimidation, 6 robbery/burglary, 51 vandalism, and 1 “other”. Anti-Jewish: 80 assaults, 244 intimidation, 21 robbery/ burglary/ larceny-theft, 8 arson, 672 vandalism, 2 “other”.

LakeRuins on November 19, 2007 at 1:23 PM

Table 5 lists the offenders’ races according to the bias motivation. You won’t see an “Hispanic” category, though, because they’re usually listed as “White” when reporting on offenders.

The right is as reactionary as the left.

For about the past decade, we have all witnessed mounting racial double-standards. Often, white men are on the losing end – cast as close-minded bigots no matter what. That is wrong.

But if you listen to your average Republican talk about this issue, you would think they had been marginalized for centuries. This is a new dynamic, very new.

Newsflash: There is still no comparison between the racism endured by many blacks to the “oppression” endured by white men at the hands of the MSM and liberals.

It’s interesting to see so many exert so much energy against prejudice when it’s directed at them. Along with this defense against false charges of racism comes a blind spot. The right is dangerously close to a total backlash against acknowledging any racism which is not politically beneficial.

It’s just ironic. Some of those who staunchly oppose victimhood seem quite comfortable exercising their own.

***
Invariably, someone will respond with a littany of their own anecdotes supporting their belief that they are more oppressed. Why? What is so great about being marginalized that even Republicans are willing to jump on the bandwagon?

***
Racism is not an impediment to one’s success or happiness. Most Americans want to be good Americans. Make no mistake, life is wonderful.

The Race Card on November 19, 2007 at 3:27 PM

But if you listen to your average Republican talk about this issue, you would think they had been marginalized for centuries. This is a new dynamic, very new.

It doesn’t feel new because the people who are talking about it are generally young. And even though the racism doesn’t compare, it’s hard to care about that when you’re on the receiving end of it and have never been racist to others in your life.

Esthier on November 19, 2007 at 4:11 PM

Hate crime is such a grey area. I think numbers like this speak more to what gets reported as a hate crime moe than anything.

It’s funny though, 143 anti-Catholic/Protestant, 140 anti-other religious, still more than Muslim. I want to see which race/religion is committing the so-called hate crime against which group. That would be much more telling.

Only 8 anti-atheist.

How many anti-(New England) Patriot hate crimes, though? Look how many people brawl over their sports allegiances, how long befoe that is a hate crime.

What about anti-liberal, anti-conservative hate crimes?

reaganaut on November 19, 2007 at 5:31 PM
