NFL Week 11 open thread
posted at 12:50 pm on November 18, 2007 by Bryan
Here’s the schedule. The 6-3 Lions host the 6-3 Giants, the Packers are at home against Carolina, Dallas hosts Washington, the Colts host KC and the Patriots go to Buffalo. The Bills have been surprising lately and the Patriots are about due to be knocked off their perch. It probably won’t happen this week, but factor in the AFC East rivalry and this week is as good as any for it to happen.
I’ll laugh out loud for the rest of the day if Miami manages to beat the Eagles.

Gotta be one of the biggest games this season(Nov.29)… couldn’t they pick like a Dolphins VS Rams game to fight about?
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 10:35 PM
Yeah, NFL Networks. I’m hearing the the NFL hasn’t come to an agreement with all cable networks, so it may not be on in some ares? I’m not sure of the details. Maybe someone else knows what’s up. I’m too lazy to Google it right now :-) As far as I can tell, I’m OK here. Go PACK!

Ok,I don’t know how to do a link
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:36 PM
It’s the BLUE thingy that screws me up
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:37 PM
Can someone explain how to use a word or two (that turns ble red orange or effin’ purple) so I can show a link?
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:38 PM
Seahawks with a big win over Chicago, although Da Bears are a shadow of what they’ve been in the last couple of years. Cardinals looked pretty good in Cincinnati to keep the NFC West close, but still lame :-) Still, my Seahawks are starting to play better, so I can dream!
Who can stop New England? I’m fully on board the bandwagon. I’d love to see new TD records and scoring records and the perfect win record. They are really fun to watch and they work hard!
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 10:39 PM
Type a word or phrase. Highlight it by dragging your mouse over it. Click “link” above. Fill in the info. Done. It’s a link!
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 10:41 PM
GO FOR IT!!!!
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:41 PM
Now 3 runs…if no td? try again (run)\
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:42 PM
Fixn’ ta be 49-10 :-)
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 10:43 PM
The Pats have this game in the bag. Doesn’t bother me to run the score up on Buffalow, but… you know it is possible to get seriously injured on the field. Shouldn’t they save Brady and give his backup a little playtime?
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 10:43 PM
Those Sonic guys are such idiots, and yet they make me laugh :-)
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 10:44 PM
TY Ordinary!! ( I hope)
NFL
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:44 PM
Sorry, it was a local break. Still, it’s true.
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 10:45 PM
Not yet Chris.
Ordinary? did that work?
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:46 PM
I was hoping he was gonna let Seau score!!! That would have been sweeeet
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 10:46 PM
Congratulations! It’s a link!
Yeah, a friend of mine in Lubbock was telling me it probably wasn’t going to be on there either. A lot of people are not going to be happy!
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 10:48 PM
There’s NO SUCH THING as “running up the score” in the NFL Chris.
The Pats did everything NOT to score there. they ran the ball the whole time! A field goal? now that WOULD be running up the score. Pats gave the Bills a chance to stop them. Bills couldn’t. PERIOD
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:49 PM
Thanks Ordinary. it’s so wildly different between blogs. on PW, I have to use HTML, which I’ve found an impossibly allergic reaction to….
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:50 PM
DID YOU SEE THAT????
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:52 PM
And now all the whiners will come out…running up the score idiots
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:52 PM
Too funny. Everything going the Patriots way! That usually doesn’t happen by accident. 56-10 and most of the 4th quarter to go!
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 10:55 PM
Yeah, worked like a charm. Thanks.
Of all the games to eff around with, WTF?
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 10:56 PM
Hey Ordinary? (or anybody) I just got a laptop, and after cleaning it out and all, I still have NO idea how to do certain things…drag and drop is one. Every time I try? the effin’ program opens…help?
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:57 PM
Chris? that game was effed from last year. NFL metwork chooses certain games, kinda like MNF? except MNF hasn’t had a good game all year that didn’t involve the Pats
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:59 PM
On the cable issue. In the article you liked Blitz, Jerry Jones says that cable companies don’t realize the value of the NFL Network and should put it on “regular” cable for all to enjoy. It’s my understanding that the NFL Network won’t allow some cable companies to put NFL Network on basic cable unless they are paid per subscriber! That would force cable companies to raise rates on EVERYBODY! Cable companies want to put NFL Network on the sports package. (like it is on Comcast) That way only the people who want to pay for it have too. Sounds like a money grab by the NFL to me! Jones spins it well, but I think he is leaving some stuff out. This will probably heat up as we get closer to the 29th.
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 11:01 PM
Can’t help you on the laptop Blitz. Sorry. Every time I’ve used one it takes me awhile to get used to it, and I almost never use one!
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 11:03 PM
Ordinary…
NFL Network was on mine (comcast) for three years. THIS year they decided to take it off, and it was absolutely an NFL decision. (League, not network) The NFL got too greedy this time and I hope you will (as I have) Email the Commisioner, the Union and your local cable company about this.
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:05 PM
Jaibones – I hear ya, man. Gosh the Bears are a major disappointment this year. I could only watch on NFL.com’s GameCenter page and it seemed like the Bears were in it until Grossman’s fumble in the 4th, when they were down 27-20. That pretty much ended it there. The defense has really tanked from last year too. Wow. Grossman seemed to do well though, from what I could tell from the stats and watching the graphics on the page. Had some nice longer passes downfield and didn’t throw any INTs. But, you’re right, I don’t know why they went away from the running game, unless they just were not getting anywhere with it after those intial 2 long runs. Benson had 2 runs of 43 and 20 and then after that, pretty much nothing. He has barely had a 3.0 yard-per-carry average all season, so maybe he went back to that after getting lucky on the first 2 rushes. But I dunno, since I couldn’t watch the game.
Oh well. Maybe we can beat the Packers again and give them their only two losses this season like they did to us back in 2003 (I think it was) when we went 13-3, but lost to Green Bay twice. Dammit.
Without seeing the game, I gotta wonder though if this one was the fault of the Defense or the offense. Maybe Grossman can work some magic to get the Bears to finish 9-7 or something. Longshot.

Yeah, this is my first laptop. I have a heavy middle finger I guess….My girlfriend likes it though…..
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:06 PM
There’s NO SUCH THING as “running up the score” in the NFL Chris.
agreed… but…
You remember on MNF, when Reggie White (an ordained minister I think) went ballistic over Chris Boniol(sp?) kicking that final field goal (DallasVS GreenBay)so he could capture that kicking record? I believe his(RWhite) major malfunction had something to do with “the Cowboys running up the score”… I think he(RWhite) was quoted like that. White might have even coined the phrase, maybe? ;)
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 11:07 PM
I just have to say this, because I say it every weekend….
GOD HELP THE JETS
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:08 PM
uh, I was kidding about Reggie White coining the phrase.:)
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 11:09 PM
The Patriots B team is fixin’ ta run up the score some more :-)
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 11:10 PM
Maybe
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 11:10 PM
Ummm…. Chris? My full screen name ( BlitzWhite) COMES from Reggie White and the 96 Pack/Pats Super Bowl…Just wanted you to know that.
Again? a field goal IS running up the score (and no RUTS has been around since the 24 Yankees) Running the ball,DARING the other team to stop you?? Is just playing the game.
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:11 PM
Please put a comma after no
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:12 PM
Damn…was hoping for a drop kick…..
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:14 PM
That’s funny! I was thinking the same thing. Remember when Flutie did that? Awesome.
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 11:15 PM
I liked Reggie White, very exciting to watch, great guy too.
AND AGREED… if you don’t like us scoring TDs against you send some players out to stop us.
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 11:15 PM
12 if you need ‘em :-)
Ordinary1 on November 18, 2007 at 11:16 PM
I grew up with the azzwipe…Yeah, I remember
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:16 PM
Lets see…3 minimum on the line to rush… you want double coverage on Welker, Moss and Stallworth, so that’s 9. In a nickle package you need a safety and an extra outside DB so that’s 11…and NOBODY can cover the run?? More like 14
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:20 PM
Bills score here??…bring Brady back
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:22 PM
Ok, question? What was the most surprising game of the day?
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:25 PM

Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:35 PM
Dude, you have to get an AM radio. You have to listen to Patriots Mondays! All the players come on all day. Brady in the AM around 8 or 9, Defense 10-2 and coffee with the coach at aroun 4-5
You can listen live at weei.com
TheBigOldDog on November 18, 2007 at 11:36 PM
I gave the stereos to the kids….Is there a way to listen on line?
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:42 PM
Yes, here is a link Click the listen live button in the upper right hand corner
TheBigOldDog on November 18, 2007 at 11:44 PM
My radios are the new hand crank type….I can listen, but it’s a pain in the hand…and you can ask Ace? between Hobo hunting and risking carpal tunnel over pics of Shannon Elizabeth? I know which one I’d choose…
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:45 PM
Thanks BOD…Have I seen you at PW?
Had to sign up though…I hate it when a phone number is required
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 11:52 PM
Where/what’s PW?
TheBigOldDog on November 18, 2007 at 11:57 PM
Just got home from a day at the Seahawks game as they beat ‘da Bears. Rex Grossman actually looked pretty good today. The coaches gave him a lot of short passes to throw to keep him out of trouble and big interceptions. But Hasselbeck was better. He was hitting some amazing, “thread the needle” passes and kept the offense moving.
After embarrassing themselves on the first series, the Seahawk defense got stout and held the Bears offense in check, especially near the end of the game. The Bears defense was all over the Hawks O-line early, but the Hawks made adjustments and were able to control them pretty well.
And frankly, the running game has improved without Shaun. Mo Morris is doing an acceptable job. The Hawks are using the pass to set up the run, instead of vice versa and it has helped put a spark in the offense. The Seahawks are 6-4 with a realistic chance of winning 10 or more games and looking respectable going into the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the dream is over for my Ducks. Oregon finally sustained one injury too many when Dennis Dixon went down. Man, it sucks. They could have made it to the national championship game. If USC can beat ASU on Saturday, Oregon sill has a chance to make it to the Rose Bowl.
Mallard T. Drake on November 19, 2007 at 12:19 AM
Yeah, I’m excited about the Seahawks! Maybe we can win a game or two in the playoffs if we continue to improve! Thanx for the eyewitness report, Mallard!
As for the Ducks. I really feel for Dixon. Heisman and National Championship lost on the same play :-( I grew up in Oregon and live in Tucson now. I almost went to the game to see Oregon play. It was painful enough on TV. Everyone I talk to here is happy about Arizona’s win, but also realize that Oregon was cruising to an easy victory with Dixon. My prayers go out to him. That’s a lot of disappointment for a young man.
