NFL Week 11 open thread
posted at 12:50 pm on November 18, 2007 by Bryan
Here’s the schedule. The 6-3 Lions host the 6-3 Giants, the Packers are at home against Carolina, Dallas hosts Washington, the Colts host KC and the Patriots go to Buffalo. The Bills have been surprising lately and the Patriots are about due to be knocked off their perch. It probably won’t happen this week, but factor in the AFC East rivalry and this week is as good as any for it to happen.
I’ll laugh out loud for the rest of the day if Miami manages to beat the Eagles.

bucs in atlanta – this game will probably make or break their season
lorien1973 on November 18, 2007 at 12:55 PM
Sexy Rexy returns to try to save the Chicago Bears’ season against the Alexander-less Seahawks later this afternoon. We’ll see if he is Good Rex or Bad Rex. Personally, I am pulling for the guy. He seems like a good kid and has the talent, he just needs to put it all together. Maybe the benching was the best thing for him. I know his teammates all really like and support him. I’m sure they will rally around him. Plus it may be the best thing for him to start his comeback on the road away from the critical fans.
Just a shame that Cedric Benson is such a bust. The Bears’ ‘O’ really misses the passion and toughness of Thomas Jones. If they had to trade away one of the 2 backs, they should have traded Benson. A change of scenery could have done him some good.
Anyway, GO BEARS!
And GO GIANTS, since I’m sick of the Lions. :)
Michael in MI on November 18, 2007 at 1:02 PM
I host a football pool every year on-line and I’m normally in the top 10, but with all the “Jeckyl and Hyde” teams this year I’m in the basement and all the players normally in the basement are at the top!
There is no doubt in my mind it’s all a right-wing conspiracy, it’s all Bushitler and Darth Cheney’s fault!!
Ugh, channeling moonbats is painful and makes me feel dirty, time to take a shower and watch the games!
Liberty or Death on November 18, 2007 at 1:07 PM
You’re not going to be laughing. The march to maximum suckitude for the ‘Fins continues unabated.
Oh, and 7-0 Pack off a fake FG pooch punt return.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 1:21 PM
Adam Vinatieri has now missed 4 FGs in his last 3 games.
TheBigOldDog on November 18, 2007 at 1:23 PM
How’s the new kid look? Can’t get game here…
TheBigOldDog on November 18, 2007 at 1:24 PM
Which new kid?
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 1:26 PM
The new QB in for the Dolphins.
TheBigOldDog on November 18, 2007 at 1:28 PM
Can’t tell you; I’ve the Packers’ game up and no NFL Sunday Ticket.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 1:29 PM
Go Packers!!!
katieanne on November 18, 2007 at 1:31 PM
Score is now 7-3 Packers after Atari 2600 Bigby got toasted.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 1:33 PM
Make that 5. Adam has got to be hurt or he’s just mentally toast.
TheBigOldDog on November 18, 2007 at 1:35 PM
Wow, and prior to a couple weeks ago, Vinatieri had never missed a FG or EP at the RCA Dome in Indy. Now he has missed 3 in the past few weeks.
Michael in MI on November 18, 2007 at 1:39 PM
Now KCs kicker just missed one. The over/under was 42
TheBigOldDog on November 18, 2007 at 1:47 PM
Go Packers! Go Steelers!
mrfixit on November 18, 2007 at 1:51 PM
And I have the over in that one (and I said to take Indy to cover the over for grins).
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 1:52 PM
I hope Sister Toldjah isn’t watching this; Packers 14, Panthers 3.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 1:57 PM
Very nice of the nursing home to let Testaverde out on a day pass. GO PACK!GO TITANS!GO OVERTIME!go cowboys.
Did Favre just hit 431?
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 2:00 PM
Bret Favre is THE MAN!!!
Bob
Bobnormal on November 18, 2007 at 2:00 PM
Yep. Either that or 432; in all the excitement, I’ve lost count.
The question is, does Testaverte feel lucky?
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 2:03 PM
It was only 431. Methinks 432 is upcoming before the half, however.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 2:08 PM
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 2:03 PM
LOL. You phunee man. :)
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 2:15 PM
Now it’s 432.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 2:23 PM
Saints aints doing so good so far.
abinitioadinfinitum on November 18, 2007 at 2:37 PM
At the half -
Packers 21
Panthers/Refs 3
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 2:40 PM
The Giants-Lions game is a snoozefest, 10-0 at the half. Eli’s playing pretty well, Lions offense non-existent.
JammieWearingFool on November 18, 2007 at 2:43 PM
Did you expect something different, JWF? Detroit always overlooks the Sunday before Turkey Day game in favor of the Turkey Day one.
That’s seriously-bad news for me, which piles on top of the Packers’ travails in Detroit on Turkey Day.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 2:45 PM
steveegg
What does 431, 432 mean? I’m lost.
abinitioadinfinitum on November 18, 2007 at 2:48 PM
Score! Packers taking it to the Panthers. :) I’m happy to see that the Giants are up at the half too.
wytammic on November 18, 2007 at 2:51 PM
433, 2nd to Lee.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 2:55 PM
Touchdown passes thrown by Brett Favre.
And we’re up to 433 now.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 2:55 PM
Favre broke the all time a few games back, now he’s uppin the record… because he’s da man… GO PACK!
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 2:58 PM
stevegg–Sure enough, as soon as I mention Eli, he goes three and out.
Now 10-3, but the Giants took the kickoff back 68 yards.
JammieWearingFool on November 18, 2007 at 2:59 PM
Oh, Thanks
abinitioadinfinitum on November 18, 2007 at 2:59 PM
Just tell the G-men to keep up the skeer.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 2:59 PM
Ugh. Jacobs fumbles on second down.
JammieWearingFool on November 18, 2007 at 3:02 PM
Indy/KC going for the most kicks missed in a single game… GO COLTS! GO KICK SOME grASS!
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 3:06 PM
Maybe Favre will make it an even 444 onda day!
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 3:21 PM
Has anybody checked under Indy’s helmets… are these some kind of Colt imposters?
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 3:23 PM
So if KC wins this game, does that mean that the Patriots are 11-0 since they’ve beaten Indy three weeks in a row?
Darin on November 18, 2007 at 3:25 PM
Not so fast pal… the Pats must make it past the un-luck-able Buffalow Billls.
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 3:33 PM
In short, the Pats are 10-0 at the end of the night.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 3:35 PM
Viewer discretion is definitely advised for Family Guy tonight. Methinks the Sunday Night game wipes it out anyway.
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 3:36 PM
Viewer discretion? On Family Guy? You must be mistaken. That show is all about family values. Stewie Rules!
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 3:46 PM
I certainly hope people are not going to let the fraud Lions off the hook for their pathetic performance today, because they were looking ahead to the game Thursday with the Packers. The fact is that the Lions are the most overrated team in the NFL.
Their offense is just average. They have no running game. Their QB is a good leader and tough, but they have no offensive line, so he doesn’t have any time to throw the ball. When he has time, he makes stupid decisions. Just look back to the beginning of the season when he was throwing INTs in the end zone on pretty much a weekly basis. Not to mention that their 3rd Down % is I believe last in the NFL at something like 25%. Their offensive success has almost completely been as a result of the turnovers provided by the defense giving them a short field. In addition, it puts the opposing team’s defense back on the field without full rest. Just go back to the Bears game in Detroit last month. HALF of the Bears starting defense, including their ENTIRE Defensive backfield, was OUT. The Lions did NOTHING for 3 QTRS against a defense which had half backups in there. It was 16-3 going into the 4th QTR.
Speaking of the Lions’ defense, they are horrible as well. They are statistically close to the bottom of the entire NFL. They cannot stop anyone, except when they get turnovers. I already mentioned the Bears game. In that game the Bears moved up and down the field on them. The pathetic Bears offense when Griese was starting his first game in 2 years. The only thing that stopped them was 3 INTs in the end zone. The Tampa Bay game. The Bucs moved up and down the field on the Lions. But of course they fumbled at the goal line and had another fumble where they mishandled a snap and that was the difference in the game. Same with the Vikings game. 5 turnovers by the offense in that game. The only thing that saved them was the Vikings kicker doinked a 40-something yard FG at the end of the game, prior to which the Lions defense allowed the Vikings to move right down the field on them for the FG attempt.
Really, if you go back and analyze the Lions team and how they have won each of their games, they are really not that good.
Now, the Packers on the other hand, as much as I hate to say it, are the real deal. They should romp on the Lions on Thursday and give the Lions yet another embarrassing Thanksgiving loss. I am looking foward to it. heheh :)

christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 3:49 PM
I know the Colts are injured, but c’mon. Unless Manning is injured, they’re just not all that good.
Darin on November 18, 2007 at 3:54 PM
And there it is! INT in the end zone!
BWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!
The Packers are going to destroy these frauds.
Michael in MI on November 18, 2007 at 3:59 PM
And AGAIN! INT!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
GAME. OVAH.
Packer fans, get ready for a Packer win on Thursday.
Michael in MI on November 18, 2007 at 4:08 PM
Weird look on Kitna’s face post interception.
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 4:09 PM
Good news out of Titletown:
Packers 31
Panthers 17
And the nightmare for the ‘Fins continues:
Eagles 17
Dolphins 7
steveegg on November 18, 2007 at 4:10 PM
Hmm, let’s see.
Lions on 3rd down: 1-for-10
Lions Net Rushing: 25 yards
And that was after netting -18 yards rushing last week.
Oh yeah, they’re a dangerous offense.
Heh.
Michael in MI on November 18, 2007 at 4:12 PM
Oh, you want to know why I am relishing this so much? 2 weeks ago on all the Sports Talk Radio shows here in Detroit, they were actually talking about winning the division, beating the Packers twice, getting a 1st round bye and… get this… Super Bowl.
None of these fools could even see how fraudulent this Lions team was/is. They actually felt this was a good team.
It is going to be most enjoyable listening this week after Michigan lost to Ohio State and the Lions were embarrassed today. heheh
Now, if only the Bears can pull off a miracle and win in Seattle and make my weekend complete.
Michael in MI on November 18, 2007 at 4:16 PM
Holy crap. Off to an amazing start with Benson getting a 43-yard TD run?!? Wow.
Michael in MI on November 18, 2007 at 4:19 PM
As a Bucs fan, i need an 0-16 team to overshadow our 0-14 team
lorien1973 on November 18, 2007 at 4:21 PM
Go Browns!
What a fantastic game tying 51 yard FG!
-FatOldGuy
Fogpig on November 18, 2007 at 4:38 PM
Dallas should play like every quarter is third quarter… except for the fourth quarter… unless it really is third quarter…
and speaking of quarters did you see FOX screw up at the begining of 2nd? for a sec they started the game over spotting Washington 7points.
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 4:59 PM
What a great finish! Hat tip to the Refs for going the extra mile to make sure they got the call right!
TheBigOldDog on November 18, 2007 at 5:37 PM
…and the refs bail out America’s Bandwagon…
packsoldier on November 18, 2007 at 6:15 PM
Patriots shall go 10-0 this day.
Remember it.

Romo + TO = 9-1
Bryan on November 18, 2007 at 7:26 PM
Both teams were in lockeroom when they made decision.

Going to be an interesting showdown on Nov.29th.
If they game is even broadcast.:(
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 7:29 PM
Bears suck.
Jaibones on November 18, 2007 at 7:45 PM
The Patriots can beat an NFC ALL STAR team
Hilts on November 18, 2007 at 7:46 PM
Feel my pain, Michael. Benson with 3 carries in the first quarter for 65 yards. And 89 all day.
Benson sucks.
Grossman truly sucks.
Bears suck.
Jaibones on November 18, 2007 at 7:48 PM
It’s all Patriots this year.
Jaibones on November 18, 2007 at 7:48 PM
where is the cork to put in olberdouche…er..K.O.?
this NBC pre-game, as usual, is completely unwatchable thanks to that mo.
How sweet was it to see Adam V. miss all those FG?’s [snicker] err…sorry……Adam who?
Go Pats!
rslancer14 on November 18, 2007 at 7:52 PM
Since this is not a Superbowl game, the Bills could win.
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 7:58 PM
Yes, the Bills COULD win. And pigs could fly and gold coins could shoot out of my nose whenever I sneezed….

As much as I love to see the Colts falter? I feel bad for Vinateiri.

The mating call of a Colts fan.
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 9:46 PM
It’s like nobody ever remembers the team that lost the Super Bowl so what is the motivation for any NFC team to make it to the Big Show this January? At least in baseball there is some consolation in winning the pennant (unless of course you are The Evil Empire and think that any season without a World Series victory is a failure).
Hilts on November 18, 2007 at 9:48 PM
Good point Hilts
I say that every team could beat every other team (look at Jets/Steelers today) on any day. There are 3 teams though, that cannot be beaten. The Pats, The Boys and the Packers…
That being said? NOBODY beats the Pats
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 9:56 PM
The mating call of a Kleenex fan…
More like wishful typing, with a poor attempt at irony.
So is it just the Saints and the Cardinals(and the Texans)who have not made the Superbowl?
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 9:59 PM
What are those lights doing on in that studio?
You know Ricky Williams is way ahead of his time, he went green even before AGore.
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 10:05 PM
The pats are sick. I want so badly for the Packers to win the Super Bowl, but I don’t see anyone beating New England. They might slip up in a regular season game but they are going to destroy the playoffs.
BadgerHawk on November 18, 2007 at 10:09 PM
What the hell are you trying to say? First off,it was SARCASM…as far as the teams you’ve mentioned? No they haven’t but…
Again? What the flying spaghetti monster are you going on about? You sound like Peyton Manning when his kicker misses…unintelligeble gibberish
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:15 PM
I really hope they run here…
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:18 PM

Ok, THAT was wrong, but what the hell….
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:20 PM
Six for six…
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:21 PM
Baltimore (next weeks victim) showed me a lot today. The Browns should have beaten them by 20, but that defense? Incredible. My prediction? Pats 41 Ravens 13
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:23 PM
And the Jets/ Steelers game? Could it be a case of a rookie head coach NOT preparing his team? after all, they’ve now lost to the Jets,Broncos and Cardinals…3 teams that were considered weak…
Blitz on November 18, 2007 at 10:27 PM
Romo +TO + Brady + Moss = ‘Boys 9-1, Pats 10-0.
Maybe we’ll see you in February. Gotta keep an eye on the Pack, though…
Pablo on November 18, 2007 at 10:27 PM
The Bills didn’t have much of a chance against the Pats. As anything can happen in football on any given day, I was hoping (in vain) maybe NE might stumble. Yeah, I am a fan of the Colts, and I’m a little sore the Pats are undefeated and going to stay that way another week. So I was feigning tears and being in need of some tissue to dry my eyes. Certainly didn’t mean to upset you.
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 10:28 PM
There are 3 teams though, that cannot be beaten. The Pats, The Boys and the Packers…
Dallas&GreenBay, Nov.29th, who is going to air it? I’ve never seen that network on the schedule before.
christophercube on November 18, 2007 at 10:29 PM
Without mass injury, or one in particular, I don’t see the Pats losing to anyone in the playoffs

Crap…Now Brady has to come back out
