Video: Hey, how’d that super keen illegal-licenses answer work out for Obama last night?

Watch in awe as the approval numbers boldly go where few approval numbers have gone before. The Reno Gazette-Journal found no clear-cut winner among its sample of Nevadans, but Frank Luntz begs to differ. Good going, Obama.

Watching him and Edwards flail about in these debates is like watching an early-round game in the NCAA tournament where the number one seed is on the ropes and you just know that if they don’t get knocked out here, they’re going to recover and go all the way. Almost invariably, the underdog blows it and can’t put them away. And then, sure enough, they go all the way. Excruciating.

OT, but I just heard Kucinich’s line about there being no such thing as “illegal humans,” only undocumented immigrants.

So he wouldn’t mind, then, if I just broke into his house and moved in as an undocumented deed-holder?

saint kansas on November 16, 2007 at 11:16 AM

It seems to me the Dem candidates are stuck between their campaign lies and the reality of Washington on this issue. Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up…

Griz on November 16, 2007 at 11:18 AM

Saint, don’t you mean broke into his spaceship?

What turns my stomach in what these people said was that Clinton was so definitive and actually ANSWERED the questions. Huh?

That, and that Clinton can attack any and everyone perpetually but as soon as someone even begins to contradict her, they get negative response for attacking a woman. That’s enfuriating!

Darksean on November 16, 2007 at 11:19 AM

The unbearable lightness of being Barack Obama.

JammieWearingFool on November 16, 2007 at 11:22 AM

First Dem. debate I watched. I felt smarter than anyone on that stage– not so with the Republicans (maybe Fred.)

JiangxiDad on November 16, 2007 at 11:22 AM

Why isn’t hillary’s “no” being parsed against her painful answers from a week ago. Clearly she was just answering to kill it as an issue against her – there’s no way she’s going to turn away such a large voting block. This is why politics is stupid – just answer people the way they want you to answer and do whatever you want. And we wonder why 50%+ of the people don’t vote.

lorien1973 on November 16, 2007 at 11:22 AM

No matter how funny she gets, it’s always plainly and painfully obvious that it’s all cold and calculated. I doubt she tells any jokes in private. BTW, is that why her nickname is The Glacier?

AlexB on November 16, 2007 at 11:24 AM

Wow. Those “swing voters” were interesting. How swingy are they? Swing voters as in they could vote for any of the Dem candidates, if only one would step forward from the pack?

Or, swing voters as in they might can be persuaded to vote for someone besides Hillary if someone promises more gov’t cash/programs than her… and BTW, I’ll vote for Josef Stalin before I’d consider a Republican candidate?

Hoodlumman on November 16, 2007 at 11:30 AM

Heh. “And I’m comfortable in the kitchen.”

Hillary’s only been in a kitchen once in the last 35 years; she was having her chef decapitated for overcooking the veal, and wanted to watch.

Jaibones on November 16, 2007 at 11:31 AM

Hillary is trying to make it a 1st woman for president race. That will probably work in the primary. Will it work in the general? I don’t know, probably.

Awesome analogy, AP!

A woman’s place is in the kitchen!

AlexB on November 16, 2007 at 11:39 AM

I take great pains to keep my wife out of the kitchen. If I want to eat right, I’m cooking.

I doubt the Pantsuit could boil water.

Nothing but ZOMBIES in that audience.

Sorry if you’ve seen this short video, but it is one of my favorites!

Then in the next breath, he said there had to be comprehensive immigration reform so they could be made “legal”. How do you make someone legal when there is no such thing as being illegal?

Krazee Kucinich, your chariot UFO awaits.

50 years ago, it was the same. Thanks.

right2bright on November 16, 2007 at 11:50 AM

Hillary had obviously salted the audience with people who would boo when she was attacked and laugh when her opponents tried to make points. This is all part of the “you can’t hit a girl” strategy that she will take to the general election, all the while arguing that she’s not playing the gender card.

rivlax on November 16, 2007 at 11:50 AM

Did I hear Obama criticize Hillary’s health care plan because it wouldn’t garnish wages of the workers? Good heavens, who the heck is going to want to get behind a plan like that?

Dudley Smith on November 16, 2007 at 11:56 AM

these people are all incompetent.

this is the best they can do? Good Lord.

benrand on November 16, 2007 at 12:11 PM

Obama blew it. He managed to do the exact same thing that Hillary did last week when Obama experienced a little surge. Amazing.

She’s playing in the big leauges, he’s playing sandlot over-the-line for beer money.

Shirley Maclaine is going to go “out on a limb” tonight on Bill O’Reilly and tell all about the “Star Beings”

They have traveled the cosmos in search of universal medical care.

saint kansas on November 16, 2007 at 12:30 PM

Where did they get these people the pantsuit has never been scrutinized over anything.

Surely not on the Clinton News Network or pmsnbc

Mojack420 on November 16, 2007 at 12:31 PM

I can’t watch these debates anymore. It is a sad scene when this is the best we can do for President. I mean you could pick 20 or so people off the streets of the United States and split them into two parties, and have basically the same results. Shouldn’t we be looking for the best and brightest to lead our Nation. This can’t be the best we have.

chief on November 16, 2007 at 12:45 PM

That Obama actually stepped into and sat down in the same “licenses for illegals” mire than Clinton did in the last debate, is astounding.

I wouldn’t put this man on the deep-fryer at McDonald’s let alone elect him Commander of the free world.

I was waiting for someone to call out Obama on the fact that he skipped the vote on the Iranian guard as a terrorist organization. Too bad it was Wolf who had to. Obama actually had the audacity to criticize Hillary for her vote.

He also sat out the “John Doe” legislation vote.

Aparently he thinks that if he has no record on anything that nothing can be held against him.

OOops. He should have brought the Audacity of “Nope”, when it comes to those drivers licenses.

Jaibones on November 16, 2007 at 11:31 AM

Heh — well said.

But you have to admit, it’s a clever line, because even though everyone knows she hasn’t been in an actual kitchen since she was 5, there’s no way to call her on it without being labeled a sexist. As I’ve said before, Hillary’s not stupid, just scary.

Splashman on November 16, 2007 at 1:07 PM

I would not have imagined the driver’s license issue could be so incendiary, but it is an astonishingly strong one and ought not be short-shrifted by Republicans.

That part at the end was the best…. where we got about 1/10 of a second of Alisyn Camerota

Ya know…when the answers are not your own, or you too focused on people pleasing than the truth, you never will be able to answer quickly nor accurately with consistency.

Republician Attack ad writes itself:

Are we voting for the President of the United States of America in NOV or the North American president?

Will we be paying for things in Dollars or AMero’s come 2010?

Will the consitution still be read in English by our children or in spanish come 2010?

If you want to have the same standard of living as Mexico please vote to continue the policies of BUSH-CLINTON-BUSH-CLINTON.

I’m sorry but the only way for the Republicians to win is to tie Hillary to Bush.

Here’s a great ad someone should run:

Since 1988 this country has had the same policies of the BUSH-CLINTON regime. It’s time for a new path, a new leadership style, a new way forward. It’s time to discard the failed policies of the last 20 years of BUSH-CLINTON and chart a new path. One of less government encroachment, less taxes, more choice. It’s time to rebuild our country. TO invest in our roads, bridges, tunnels, and schools. To relay the great manufacturing foundation that made this country great by giving companies tax incentives to build plants here. To give those not seeking a higher education a place to work and raise a family on a decent paycheck. TO lead the world away from the 7th century hatred that imperils the world. To lead in the technology race for healthcare, science, space travel, and alternative energy. We can not do this with the BUSH-CLINTON regime in place. They have had 20 years in the leadership postion and have driven this country into massive debt, political seperation not seen since the Civil war, and 5 winless wars. They have failed to secure our borders, they have weakened our military and defense, they have failed to include the AMerican people in the discussion of what course this country should take and have instead embarked on a fool hardy pursuit of world wide hubris. It is time for a change from Clinton-BUSH policies and a new direction. This NOV vote for change, vote for AMerica, vote for a better way and a better life, vote no on CLinton-BUSH and return the country to a better time. A time of greatness where the American people charted their own way without the need for government to wipe their tears or hold their hands. Vote for the REP nominee.
