Video: Dennis Miller on Redacted

This is from The O’Reilly Factor Wednesday. Dennis Miller tears Mark Cuban apart for financing and distributing the troop-smearing Brian De Palma film, Redacted. He also makes a great point about Hollywood’s loyalty. It isn’t to outsider moneybags like Cuban: Hollywood is only loyal to their money, and only as long as it’s useful to be loyal to that.

“Mark Cuban is in too deep now. They’re gonna lay the First Amendment on him if he tries to roll this back, if he tries to redact Redacted. And the fact is, he has enough zeros after his name that these guys are gonna befriend him like Mr. Drysdale throwing a dinner party for Jed Clampett. But when it serves their purposes they’re gonna throw him under the wheels and I hope he gets ready for that. De Palma will turn on him in a second.”

Redacted is scoring terribly on Rotten Tomatoes and is losing money faster than a Kennedy in a strip joint. If nothing else gets Cuban’s attention, maybe that last fact will.

If Mark Cuban really is interested in depicting the war in Iraq fairly, he ought to finance a film about the al Qaeda slaughterhouses that US troops found and documented during the battle of Fallujah. Those have been redacted from the mainstream press for years.

Too bad the clip stopped at Ellen.

This is what happens when you watch too much Dennis Miller. You start to say things like he would. ;)

Bwahahahahaha as popular as the only guy with a lighter in a crack house now that’s funny

As an audience member or as the stripper?

Mark Cuban is thinking of buying my beloved Chicago Cubs.
Look, I’m a huge Cubs fan.
I’ve got my Cubbie baseball cap on now.
I even stayed loyal and outspoken during World Series ‘06-while living in ST. LOUIS!
As much as I love my Cubs though, I WILL NOT support a team owned by a troop-hating truther!
If Cuban buys the Cubs I will jump ship.
Go Go Astros.

I {heart} Dennis. And it’s nice to see that there is justice in the world, when garbage like this ends up tanking — and taking the creators of said trash down with it.

Now I feel old. I remember when the Mavericks didn’t exist.

baldilocks on November 16, 2007 at 1:40 PM

When will someone have the courage to stand up and make a movie showing our troops as the heroes they are, and Islam as the terror it is?

Less than one year into WWII there were dozens of movies showing the bad guys for what they were, and training films coming out of Hollywood.

Hening on November 16, 2007 at 1:42 PM

Miller ROCKS! we all should have a vocabulary and sense of perspective that compares. This world would be a bit better, and more entertaining.

bigskinny on November 16, 2007 at 1:49 PM

Before we all damn Cuban to Hell, we ought to consider this http://www.fallenpatriotfund.org/

Gatordoug on November 16, 2007 at 1:50 PM

Gatordoug on November 16, 2007 at 1:50 PM

So he’ll collect money from others to help the troops while he’ll put much more of his own money toward smearing them. That doesn’t absolve him.

Bryan on November 16, 2007 at 1:59 PM

Dennis is awesome. Just as I have with Fred Thompson, I’d probably get tired of Miller’s shtick after a while, so it’s good we get him in bite-size pieces.

Hening on November 16, 2007 at 1:42 PM

When they do it will make BIG money! As I wrote on my site yesterday, America WANTS pro-military films, not anti-military garbage..

Gatordoug on November 16, 2007 at 2:04 PM

Last night against the Spurs, the Mavs honored our troops http://www.nba.com/mavericks/news/MavsTexasNationalGuard.html

I am confused. Cuban obviously does a lot TO support our troops. Why would he actively, or deliberately seek to be involved in a film that disgraces them? Is he confused? Is he just trying to be a movie big shot? Is he just a stupid Liberal who cannot see how an anti-military film undercuts our troops?
Has anyone here seen the film? I have not.

Gatordoug on November 16, 2007 at 2:14 PM

I don’t remember if he said it to Dennis Miller but Bill O mentioned in passing that they were making “Lone Survivor” into a movie. THAT’S a movie I’d go see.

KelliD on November 16, 2007 at 2:16 PM

They’re dead to me now.

Bryan on November 16, 2007 at 1:29 PM

Cuban’s a douche, but I wouldn’t stop watching the Cubs if he owned them. They’re owned by the Trib now — like I have any use for the Trib? Let him waste a billion $ on the worst team in the history of organized sports; it’s only money to him.

Jaibones on November 16, 2007 at 2:21 PM

I hate to defend Cuban, who is mostly an arrogant pr*ck. But he has consistently been pro-troops, pro-America, pro-Capitalism. I could probably google and find a ton of articles and pictures to back it up, but I remember seeing the stuff over the years. Cuban probably saw that Depalma was directing some movie about Iraq and threw some money at it. May not have been told it was about troops raping kids, who knows? I don’t know the timeline, just not so quick to throw Cuban under the bus here given his past good deeds and words when it comes to America and the troops.

RW Wacko on November 16, 2007 at 2:31 PM

RW Wacko on November 16, 2007 at 2:31 PM

I would agree. I think Cuban is just trying to get into making movies. He ought to be far more careful though. I do know he said we were in Iraq for the right reasons last year.

Gatordoug on November 16, 2007 at 2:34 PM

RW Wacko on November 16, 2007 at 2:31 PM

Cuban is funding the movie, putting it in the theaters that he owns and running it on HDNet, which he also owns (and where he employs Dan Rather). And he has a credit in the film. So it’s not a case of him just throwing money at Brian De Palma. He’s deeply involved in Redacted.

Bryan on November 16, 2007 at 2:42 PM

He is also distributing Loose Change. If he’s just trying to get into movies, well, he has chosen some odd projects that are far out of the mainstream to make his splash.

Bryan on November 16, 2007 at 2:44 PM

Bryan on November 16, 2007 at 2:42 PM

Puzzling to me and disapointing as well.Doing a bit of reseearch on this it is clear that Cuban has shown poor judgement at best. Malicious? No, but still he deserves rebukes for this involvement with De Palma.
Very stupid Mark Cuban.

Gatordoug on November 16, 2007 at 2:48 PM

Bryan on November 16, 2007 at 2:44 PM

I wish he would redirect his resources and do some pro-military films. He is smarter than this.

Gatordoug on November 16, 2007 at 2:49 PM

If you a pro-troops you don;t fund movies that smear them and put their lives more at risk. If you are Pro-American you don;t fund movies that claim 9/11 was an inside job. It’s really simple.

TheBigOldDog on November 16, 2007 at 2:51 PM

Cuban knows what he is financing. He financed Loose Change too. Won’t stop me from rooting for the Mavs, but Cuban really does suck.

Sue on November 16, 2007 at 2:52 PM

I can’t do business with people I despise. People who smear the troops. People who put their lives more at risk. People who claim the government killed 3,000 innocent Americans. I’m funny that way.

TheBigOldDog on November 16, 2007 at 2:59 PM

Yes, it crossed my mind. But weighing his other acts supporting the troops I doubt it.
I think he is just a fool.

Gatordoug on November 16, 2007 at 3:02 PM

The Democrats claim the support the troops all the time. Just because they learned their PR lesson from Vietnam doesn’t mean they are really any different.

TheBigOldDog on November 16, 2007 at 3:08 PM

TheBigOldDog on November 16, 2007 at 3:08 PM

Sure they CLAIM to, but their actions all pretty much point the other way on that one.

Gatordoug on November 16, 2007 at 3:09 PM

Maybe this is a petty semantic argument, but could we please stop calling them “the troops.” It’s an innocuous little whitewashed phrase that has been co-opted by the left. Please call them what they are: AMERICAN SOLDIERS.

Calling American soldiers “the troops” is like calling all things Christmas a “holiday” this or that. These men and women aren’t unspecified, ambiguous “troops”; they are AMERICAN SOLDIERS. Let’s call them what they are.

Do this, please, even if for no other reason than to see liberals stumble and mumble as they try to have the word “American” roll off their tongues with any tone other than contempt. I don’t think many of them can do it.

His charity and other efforts supporting the military says otherwise, sorry. I am not happy with his action being involved in the stupid film I have lost immeasureable respect for him. But, that does not change the good things he has done and still does.
Compare that to Harry Reid, or Dick Durbin, or Kennedy, or Murtha, who, to my knowledge have done nothing but stab our troops in the back.
What I am saying is I see no hope fpr the Dems leadership, no hope at all. In Cuban’s case I can see hope. I sincerely hope he wises up and gets the reality check he needs.

You’ve got it totally backwards. The messages he funds (which have devastating and long term consequences) say otherwise. His charities are PR so people like you will rationalize away the damage he’s doing.

You don’t give credit to the guy who puts out the house fire he set.

He has done the charitable stuff longer. It is a huge confliction I agree. And maybe you are right. My gut tells me differently my friend.

Gatordoug on November 16, 2007 at 3:29 PM

Do you really think anybody who really support the troops and who really loves his country could fund these projects knowing the impact they will have around the world? Do you think there is even a 0.00001% chance of that? No.

What we have is a man who’s true colors are shown through his most powerful and consequential actions.

TheBigOldDog on November 16, 2007 at 3:32 PM

Loose Change hasn’t been distributed anywhere. Cuban has stated numerous times that if he distributes the POS he will distribute an alternative viewpoint, like Screw Loose Change. He also said this:

“I don’t believe the movie. Not at all,” Mr. Cuban explained. “But I do believe that lies in the shadows are far more dangerous than lies you can confront and refute. There probably will be a movie that responds to this one, and we would be more than happy to distribute it as well”

He said that when the sh*t hit the fan about all this in March and he hasn’t budged from it. Loose Change hasn’t been distributed anywhere as far as I know. Still online DVD sales out of Dylan’s mom’s garage last I heard.

abinitioadinfinitum on November 16, 2007 at 3:38 PM

Look, Cuban is off his rocker. He likes to be conroversial and seeks out attention. I think he is good at heart, but his craziness leads him astray at times. His involvement with Redacted is disgusting, obviously. He has distanced himself from DePalma as much as he can, and obviously is disgusted with the man. He is also trying to now spin the movie as pro-troops, which is absurd, of course. I just don’t think he’s the enemy. He’s done a lot of good, and some bad. More good than bad in my opinion. Bad has been bad judgement more than bad in an evil way. Just my opinion, he could be evil incarnate.

Nice!

Positively Milleresque. Send that joke to him. He’d love it. Might earn you royalties. (If you stole it, belay my last).

Now here’s my question: how can you be a billionaire and not afford a decent haircut? He should call John Edwards. He could hook him up.

God bless Dennis Miller.

when it serves their purposes they’re gonna throw him under the wheels

Perhaps this is the key to Cubans involvement with Hollywood. Cubans cash serving their purpose which is to make anti-war movies. I think I’ll wait to see what Cuban does after the movie bombs before I make any judgements.

Rightwingsparkle on November 17, 2007 at 12:25 PM

Mark Cuban knows exactly what he’s financing.

From TF Boggs at Vox Veterana who listened to Cubans’ closing speech at the Blogworld Expo:

The movie was financed by a company of Cuban’s and is thus directly supported by Cuban. Cuban described the movie in his speech at Blogworld by saying “Soldiers are bored 99% of the time, this film is about what they do with the other 1%.”

That statement taken to its logical conclusion means that the only time soldiers aren’t bored is when they are raping and murdering.”
