Video: Obama does, then sort of doesn’t, then does support driver’s licenses for illegals

What’s more surprising, the Messiah fumbling the topic that waylaid the Glacier at the last debate or ending up the butt of a huge laugh line from CNN’s most mild-mannered anchor? The Clinton camp reportedly went wild as this played out; Obama’s supporters are already spinning, claiming that he was perfectly firm in saying that he supports licenses for public safety reasons — which doesn’t explain the hedge in the middle where he notes that he’s not proposing anything. Is he making a federalist argument, that he supports licenses at the state level but doesn’t want the feds involved? That’s what it sounds like.

They can rattle off the particulars of complex, multi-billion-dollar health care plans, but toss them a softball on an issue that lies in no man’s land between popular opposition and “tolerance” and watch them waver.

Note Hillary’s very direct answer at the end.

And that’s what passes for statesmanship? God help us if this is what our republic is turning into.

Grantman on November 15, 2007 at 9:29 PM

Lol, the best part was Hillary’s simple “No”, and the fact that you can almost read her thoughts of “why didn’t I just say that last time!?”

Anyway folks the real point here is that none of the Democrats want licenses for illegals… they don’t even want illegals. No, it’s not what you’re thinking. What I mean is they want to make these people citizens for the votes, which at that point makes giving them licenses not an issues, because again, they’re legal citizens.

RightWinged on November 15, 2007 at 9:30 PM

Nuanced satire.

I didn’t rhyme my comment above on purpose.

Oh, the tangled webs we weave…

So, you think this is the moment of the night that the forces will lean towards and focus on?

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:33 PM

And….just like that, Hillary pulls away in Iowa again.

Obama is such an idiot.

Nessuno on November 15, 2007 at 9:39 PM

Of course we will all be hearing tomorrow form Oprah what a meanie Wolf is and that he is in Hillary’s pocket

William Amos on November 15, 2007 at 9:41 PM

Yeah the American people desperately want you to secure the borders and enforce our laws.
We pretty much don’t want to reward illegals with dl or shamnesty or any of your comprehensive BS.

Mojack420 on November 15, 2007 at 9:43 PM

Amazingly not ready for prime time.

Mr. Bingley on November 15, 2007 at 10:12 PM

She scares the hell out of me. She believes in nothing except gaining more and more power. I hope Krauthammer is right, the whole ultimate pragmatist argument and all, b/c she really creeps me out.

Oh.My.Goodness. He had a week to get one word (no) straight in his empty head, and he couldn’t do it. No wonder his wife thinks every black person in America is required to vote for him; he couldn’t get elected to the library board otherwise.

And Hillary, after effing this issue up over and over, gets to say “no” and move on unchallenged. Unbelieveable.

Jaibones on November 15, 2007 at 11:20 PM

Nothing hurts like the laughter of ridicule. They laughed at him…

Jaibones on November 15, 2007 at 11:28 PM

Illegal immigrants, illegal aliens, undocumented workers, undocumented citizens,……….arggggg……

nottakingsides on November 15, 2007 at 11:50 PM

Surely he knew this was coming
Surely he knows what Hillary’s camp is capable of
Surely he knows what that smug look on Hillary’s face means

Yeah, don’t call me shirley!

What an idiot and what an idiot campaign advisor – He had everything going for him – she was down 10- points and he was up and he had to blow this question when he knew it was coming! Ah, Democrats. The present that keeps on giving!

Neocon Peg on November 16, 2007 at 12:27 AM

Obama is pitiful. Until now I’ve been telling everyone I’d rather Hillary get the nomination, because she’ll be easier to knock off. I’ve changed my mind. Obama is a true lightweight; any of the Repubs can knock him out in the first round. Hillary isn’t incompetent, she’s just scary.

In comparison to the Dems, we’ve got a pretty good bunch of candidates. Better than any other election in the last 20 years, methinks.

Splashman on November 16, 2007 at 2:35 AM

(I’m talking about the frontrunners — Romney, Giuliani, Thompson, McCain. Farther back in the pack, we’ve got a couple scary ones — Huck & Paul.)

Splashman on November 16, 2007 at 2:37 AM

So what happens when an illegal fails the test. . . or (gasps) cheats or . . . can’t read the traffic signs . .

- The Cat

P.S. “How is it going down at the DMV on this the first day that undocumenteds get documented?”

“Not too well. They keep cutting in line.”

MirCat on November 16, 2007 at 3:18 AM

Any of the libtards nominated will lose due to what caused both the harridan and the airhead to waffle. They dont stand for anything. America see thats.

dogsoldier on November 16, 2007 at 6:55 AM

Oh jeez…heh…I haven’t laughed that hard all week. Obama should get his own show on Comedy Central.

“I support the notion…”

classic.

But…what…I…also…know…Wolf…is…that…if…we…keep…on…getting…distracted…by…this…problem…then…we…are…not…solving…it.

Are we clear on that?

“But…what…I…also…know…Wolf…is…that…if…we…keep…on…getting…distracted…by…this…problem…then…we…are…not…solving…it.”

Translation: “I’m in love with the sound of my own voice.”

franksalterego on November 16, 2007 at 10:43 AM

Clinton got the message…she also knows that she can back away…”It is of the greater public interest that I change my direction. Look, I would rather be wrong once, and correct it, then to forever hold to something that damages and destroys peoples lives. That’s what being a leader is about, not always making the right decision, but recognizing when it is wrong and correcting it—Hillary, March, 2009.

right2bright on November 16, 2007 at 11:00 AM

I always knew that Obama was a lightweight of “Edwardsian” proportions, but he’s even worse than that….wow, this dude is not presidential material…
