I couldn't have said what you have any better. Michael Collins and Eamon Delavera would concur in part.

What gets me all fired up is that in Northern Ireland, it is always the IRA who are terrorists. Not the UDA or UVF or any other Protestant gang. Not only did Catholics have to defend themselves against these Protestant gangs, but had a corrupt RUC aiding and abetting these thugs. Not to mention widespread job discrimination against Catholics keeping the population in abject poverty.

So, what would you have done here? The IRA was one source that was defending Catholics in the region. Now, I am not saying they are completely innocent, but exactly who was going to defend the Catholic community?

Oh, and another thing, and I know I am going to get ripped on this, but IRA terrorists and Islamic terrorists are not the same thing. IRA specifically went after military and economic targets and have even warned of impending bombs to minimize civilian casualties, not like the Islamo-terrorists who try try to inflict as much death as possible.

Finally, without the IRA or Sinn Fein, there would have been no peace agreement. Now that the steps to peace have been taken, I do believe it is time for the IRA to disband because I feel now they are becoming a criminal gang rather than an army against oppression.

But to compare the IRA to al-Qaeda, Hezbollah or Hamas is a monumental reach.

Patriot Games, now that's an excellent book.

But this whole thing is just part of the master plan, which, I might say, has been going off without a hitch. And we're so tolerant we just sit back and let it happen.

Vince Flynn's books would make terrific movies and bring lots of dough to Hollywood. Several caveats though.
1. Scripts would have to be left alone. Let Flynn have final say on it. No fair changing bad buys from Islamic terrorists to, say, Swiss bankers.
2. Some hot Matt Damon type guy, who would be believable as a former Navy Seal, would have to play MItch Rapp.
3. Hollywood hotshots would have to swallow their liberal-Anti-Americanism, wake up and smell the coffee, and make a movie about the war that Americans want to see.

Think it would ever happen? Not bloody likely. No time soon, anyway.

Excellent Point!

My family would bring over kids from Belfast in the early 80's (Project Children)for the summer and they wold tell us the horrors committed by the IRA and our Irish Catholic household had nothing but contempt for those terrorists.

BTW thugs and terrorism by way of gangs, drugs, smugglers of all kinds and criminal activity in general has worked pretty well as the private army of reconquistadors since the 70s.

Apparently the Judiciary is a little off track.

This comment is the difference.....

What drives me nuts is people like [the Council on American-Islamic Relations] who, any time somebody in fiction or on TV has a villain who happens to portray what is going on in the world today — Islamic radicals who embrace a cult of death and are running around killing innocent women and children — they get upset about it.”

Between religious extremism and political activism.
Both Terrorism, no difference.

We're going to have to work that word 'hypocrisy' into a constitutional ammendment. Or better yet... Can we ammend the 'Bill of Rights?' Doesn't hypocrisy qualify as an inalienable right in America at this point?

By the way Bryan I've enjoyed your extra input around here lately. And AP is shining brighter than ever as always. All of Hot Air is doing a great job. Thank you.

That is what you are suppose to use for doing you-know-what if you run out of TP.

What drove my parents nuts is people like [the Council on American-Germanic Relations and the Council on American-Nipponese Relations] who, any time somebody in fiction or in a movie has a villain who happens to portray what is going on in the world today — German Storm troopers and Japanese marauders who embrace a cult of conquest and subjugation and are running around killing innocent men, women and children — they get upset about it.

Oh wait. That didn't happen did it?

Vince Flynn kicks ass. His Rapp books range from very good to friggin' awesome. If you like spy books with a pro-American slant, kick-ass action, and actually extremely good, witty writing, he's your man.

No money - no power. Let them eat dust....
