Open thread: The “ain’t so bad, champ” debate! Update: Kucinich’s “Hello?” added

8 p.m. on CNN. With the Glacier suddenly looking vulnerable, it’s Obama’s chance to play Rocky to her Clubber Lang. Will he swing away? They don’t call him Obambi for nothing. An exciting subplot for you: Given her delightful idiocy about immigration, will the Messiah and Silky tack right and start talking up border enforcement? Somewhere Tancelot smiles, and nods. Knowingly. Oh, so knowingly.

While we wait, chew on this little bulletin from across the aisle, as I suspect you’ll be hearing more about it tomorrow. Did Mitt really flake out of a state-party-sponsored debate in Iowa, of all places? That looks shockingly weak in light of Huckabee’s recent gains and reputation as a superior debater, as though Mitt can’t bear to face him now with the stakes raised. If I were Huck’s campaign manager I’d be pounding that drum tomorrow to any media outlet that would have me.

Have a blast in the comments. I’ll be off doing something more edifying, like staring at a wall. E-mail tips on clipworthy moments are, as always, dearly appreciated.

Update (bp): I’m convinced that the only reason Dennis Kucinich runs for president is for the debates, because they offer moments when millions of people who would otherwise ignore him are forced to listen to him. Here’s his reaction to one moment when he didn’t even get that satisfaction.

Update (Bryan): My scorecard:
Hillary won by not losing. No gaffes, few cackles, and a one-word answer to the licenses question.
Obama and Edwards failed, for different reasons. Obama came across as too inexperienced and not in command of the facts. Saying only that there has been progress in Iraq “in some neighborhoods” reveals how ill-informed he is. Al-Anbar is something like a third of Iraq. Diyala is a major province. Even Adamiyah, the huge east Baghdad enclave, is quieter these days. Those aren’t neighborhoods, Senator Obama, they’re vast parts of the country where most of the violence in Iraq occurred before the surge. Edwards just came off as over the top. His nutroots act is an act, for the most part, and he doesn’t seem to know when to dial it down.
Biden is good, sane, and grown up. He’s wrong about quite a few things, but at least he’s credible. Ditto for Dodd, which is why the two cancel each other out. Richardson and Kucinich are the fringe candidates, and ought to drop out. They add some comic relief but no serious person takes either one seriously as presidential material. Richardson has given away all the credibility that his resume says should be his. Coin toss on whether Biden or Dodd joins Richardson and Kucinich in dropping out.

I could only take an hour of this non answer session. I think I’ll read the mop ups here and with Rush tomorrow.

flyboy777 on November 15, 2007 at 9:05 PM

It’s Booooshes fault!

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:05 PM

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:05 PM

I’m opposed to South Korea?

These people are awful.

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:06 PM

Hillary talks alot about “enforcing” and “mandating”.

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:07 PM

Well, Biden’s got my vote :)

bnelson44 on November 15, 2007 at 9:07 PM

They want to come off as being so smart.

But it doesn’t take much honest brain power to see how full of shit they are.

This is the best the Democrats can do?

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:07 PM

Obama will keep nuke waste in his back yard.

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:08 PM

Obama = IthinkIcan IthinkIcan IthinkIcan

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:09 PM

Obama is a very positive and optimistic person. He brings hope! ;p

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:10 PM

i think he can too, if he just flaps his ears hard enough.

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:10 PM

First… beer of the night. And there ain’t enough beer in the state to make watching the Dems debate tolerable.

I wonder how many votes Romney threw away by tanking the Iowa debate- Iowans don’t take kindly to that sort of thing, with their supposed and artificial “kingmaker” status.

Hollowpoint on November 15, 2007 at 9:10 PM

Q: What do you do about nuclear waste?

A: Greenhouse gasses affect Nevada. We’ll spend on solar! No more questions!!!1!!!!

Obama-mania

wccawa on November 15, 2007 at 9:11 PM

Let illegals in only if they take waste back home. Problem solved.

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:11 PM

Oh yeah!

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:11 PM

Whatever the winning card may be at the moment.

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:12 PM

She didn’t play the woman card before she played the woman card.

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:12 PM

Mojack420 on November 15, 2007 at 9:13 PM

bnelson44 on November 15, 2007 at 9:13 PM

Campbell…?

PALOMINO!!!!

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:13 PM

That drinking game should have been every time she says woman.

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:14 PM

This is getting pretty sickening.

bnelson44 on November 15, 2007 at 9:14 PM

So in answering the question about playing the gender card, she says of course not, then uses the gender card.

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:14 PM

Are you lookin at me?

infidel on November 15, 2007 at 9:14 PM

OMG. Watching Hil, I just had an “Apocalypse Moment.”

We’re DOOOOOOMED.

wccawa on November 15, 2007 at 9:14 PM

glass ceiling. woman in the white house.

yeah, she isn’t playing the gender card.

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:15 PM

Here comes the bitchy side of Hillary.

Her movement of progress doesn’t include Conservative women.

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:15 PM

hit the ground running…

like she hit the ground running the last debate, where she wasn’t at her “best”.

Is that a code word for OTR?

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:16 PM

Silky just nailed himself to a cross. Film at eleven.

wccawa on November 15, 2007 at 9:16 PM

Did you see her look at Campbell like she and her have some kind of sisterhood connection? Yeah, she’s playing te gender card! Vacuous cow.

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:16 PM

Hey! Isn’t that Microsoft monkey in the debate. Dennis, get back here.

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:18 PM

Silky needs to keep skewering her. Those are the Hildebeasts plants doing all the moaning.

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:18 PM

I think Joe is getting the better of em.

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:20 PM

Uh oh. Hillary plants?

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:23 PM

Nice to see the show of support for Christopher. Honestly.

wccawa on November 15, 2007 at 9:25 PM

I am Hillary, hear me be a bore
My butts just too big to ignore
And I’ve concealed too much for you to ever get me in the end
’cause I’ve hid it all before
And I’ve got it all locked up behind a safe door
No one’s ever gonna pin me down again

CHORUS
Oh yes I am a sneak
But it’s sneakinesses that will be to my gain
Yes, they’ve paid my price
And look how much I gained
If I have to, I can hide anything
I am sneaky (sneaky)
I am conniving (conniving)
I am Hillary

You can chase but never catch me
’cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice crook any longer
’cause I’ve dodged all those the conviction of my soul

CHORUS

I am Hillary watch my butt grow
See my breasts hanging down toe to toe
As I spread my controlin’ arms across the land
But I’m still a female gigolo
With a long long way to go
Until I make my wandering Bill understand

Oh yes I am a sneak
But it’s sneakinesses that will be to my gain
Yes, they’ve paid my price
And look how much I gained
If I have to, I can hide anything
I am sneaky (sneaky)
I am conniving (conniving)
I am Hillary
Oh, I am Hillary
I am sneaky
I am conniving

FADE
I am Hillary
I am sneaky
I am conniving
I am Hillary

Absolutely wccawa

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:26 PM

Unfortunitely silky only has two rehearsed responses about Hill. Hims used ‘em up. The rest of the night we’ll hear rehearsed Hill as well. It’s speech time.

Griz on November 15, 2007 at 9:28 PM

There’s no whining in the Marine Corps.

Well, Hildebeast finally took a stand.

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:28 PM

Silky just said Neocon again. Heh

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:29 PM

carrot stick.

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:29 PM

There’s a few different Neocon stages.

They need to be stopped between the first and second stage.

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:30 PM

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:23 PM

With that much raw manure on stage you’re bound to have a few plants.

This just in the space aliens have endorsed Dennis because he makes them all feel taller

Mojack420 on November 15, 2007 at 9:31 PM

Obama refused to vote, but now he has an opinion on it? Why not vote against it then?

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:31 PM

ok new rule. everytime Edwards says “Bush, Cheney, and the NeoCons” we have to take a drink.

Keli on November 15, 2007 at 9:31 PM

Am I the only one noticing that just about everyone is messing up “Iraq” with “Iran?”

WTF?

wccawa on November 15, 2007 at 9:32 PM

Is Bill mentally challenged? Did Bill ride the short bus?

Griz on November 15, 2007 at 9:33 PM

That’s it Bill. Increase more pay. Again, who will still be working to pay for it?

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:34 PM

Yeah, Biden started it with the first question saying Boooossshhh should be impeached if he starts a war with IRAQ without congressional approval.

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:34 PM

Keli, I have to wake up tomorrow.

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:35 PM

ABUSED? HOW?

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:36 PM

I hope someone asks Senator Obama if he’s going to give the federal government the money he believes he’s been underpaying in 2006-7… and if not, I’d sort like to know what is or has been stopping him. Same goes for all the candidates.

Vizzini on November 15, 2007 at 9:36 PM

Oh, God.

I think we could line up about 1 million Americans of just about every ethnicity who had to take off their shoes and answer questions when going into an airport terminal.

Who writes this stuff?

And now Silky hits the “torture” button.

Flee!!!

wccawa on November 15, 2007 at 9:37 PM

And Iran is ALREADY at war with us.

Krazy Kucinich is skewering his fellow tools.

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:37 PM

IMPEACH THEM NOW! IMPEEEEEEECHHHHH THEM NOW!!!!!!

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:38 PM

Sooo, restore our something or other by not torturing or something?

Does he understand how violent the world outside of the US is?

Or is he just a lying jerkweed…

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:39 PM

They should tell everyone that these questions are handpicked.

Its no different than planting questions

William Amos on November 15, 2007 at 9:39 PM

Biden gets my vote too.

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:40 PM

Richardson DOES ride the short bus.

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:40 PM

Well, the elephant in the room makes an appearance.

BORDER! BORDER!

wccawa on November 15, 2007 at 9:40 PM

STOP DEMONIZING IMMIGRANTS!

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:40 PM

Belushi with a zinger to the alien being, nice…

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:40 PM

I agree with Richardson on two points.

Mexico…give your people jobs!

and…

Learn English!

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:42 PM

Um, is this for U. S. President?

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:42 PM

Chris Dodd studied being serious in college.

I can tell, cuz he talks fast and like he’s taking a dump.

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:43 PM

Here comes the Social Security question….

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:43 PM

This lady also rides the short bus.

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:44 PM

There is no social security crisis! It is a rightwing scaremongering lie!!!!

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:44 PM

It’s booossshes fault!

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:45 PM

What a super duper spontaneous question.

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:45 PM

Why did Obama slip back into his ethnic voice?

RW_theoriginal on November 15, 2007 at 9:45 PM

The insurance rates are Booosh’s fault, too! Is there anything that’s not Booosh’s fault for these Dems.

amerpundit on November 15, 2007 at 9:46 PM

That’s right Obama. Tell people ‘if they make a lot of money, we’ll take it away’.

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:46 PM

Tax 100% every dollar over 97,000!

benrand on November 15, 2007 at 9:46 PM

Why don’t they get those questioners a prompter?

Griz on November 15, 2007 at 9:47 PM

Tell people ‘if they make a lot of money, we’ll take it away’.

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:46 PM

Yes, he’s a right-old Robin Hood. If you’re successful, he’s going to take it away for the common good.

amerpundit on November 15, 2007 at 9:47 PM

It’s boooshes fault!

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:47 PM

ColdBore76 on November 15, 2007 at 9:50 PM

amerpundit on November 15, 2007 at 9:50 PM

bi-partisan Hillary!

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:50 PM

Obama just went below the belt.

p0s3r on November 15, 2007 at 9:50 PM

Jay on November 15, 2007 at 9:50 PM

The hildebeasts plants are booing again.

Look at her ASS! That thing is HUGE!

csdeven on November 15, 2007 at 9:50 PM

How can you tell where the belt is located when one wears a Mao-esque pants suit?

ColdBore76 on November 15, 2007 at 9:51 PM

Did I hear right? She said we should do like Reagan did?

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:51 PM

Is it just me, or was everyone on stage looking like they were about to get tased?

wccawa on November 15, 2007 at 9:52 PM

Kossittes aren’t gonna like that Hilly.

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:52 PM

I’ve noticed there’s only politics or stupidity on that stage, take your pick.

abinitioadinfinitum on November 15, 2007 at 9:53 PM

This Democrat Debate this evening is like graduation day at the insane asylum; none of them are making any sense whatsoever… tax the rich? Pie in the sky statements like bring the troops home? The CNN media aren’t even following up with honest inquiry… We are at war and that topic hasn’t even surfaced yet! Amazing! Absolutely amazing…

IntheNet on November 15, 2007 at 9:53 PM

When I am president NO-ONE will ever be profiled again!!

ColdBore76 on November 15, 2007 at 9:54 PM

Does this qualify as Thursday night stupid?

oakpack on November 15, 2007 at 9:54 PM
